"Deborah Ramirez, a Yale classmate of Brett Kavanaugh’s, has described a dormitory party gone awry and a drunken incident that she wants the F.B.I. to investigate."

A new article by Ronan Farrow and Jane Mayer in The New Yorker.
The woman at the center of the story, Deborah Ramirez, who is fifty-three, attended Yale with Kavanaugh.... The New Yorker contacted Ramirez after learning of her possible involvement in an incident involving Kavanaugh.... She was at first hesitant to speak publicly, partly because her memories contained gaps because she had been drinking at the time of the alleged incident. In her initial conversations with The New Yorker, she was reluctant to characterize Kavanaugh’s role in the alleged incident with certainty. After six days of carefully assessing her memories and consulting with her attorney, Ramirez said that she felt confident enough of her recollections....

“We were sitting in a circle,” she said. “People would pick who drank.” Ramirez was chosen repeatedly, she said, and quickly became inebriated. At one point, she said, a male student pointed a gag plastic penis in her direction. Later, she said, she was on the floor, foggy and slurring her words, as that male student and another stood nearby...

A third male student then exposed himself to her. “I remember a penis being in front of my face,” she said. “I knew that’s not what I wanted, even in that state of mind.” She recalled remarking, “That’s not a real penis,” and the other students laughing at her confusion and taunting her, one encouraging her to “kiss it.”... She remembers Kavanaugh standing to her right and laughing, pulling up his pants. “Brett was laughing,” she said. “I can still see his face, and his hips coming forward, like when you pull up your pants.” She recalled another male student shouting about the incident. “Somebody yelled down the hall, ‘Brett Kavanaugh just put his penis in Debbie’s face,’ ” she said. “It was his full name. I don’t think it was just ‘Brett.’ And I remember hearing and being mortified that this was out there.”...

[A]fter several days of considering the matter carefully, she said, “I’m confident about the pants coming up, and I’m confident about Brett being there.” Ramirez said that what has stayed with her most forcefully is the memory of laughter at her expense from Kavanaugh and the other students. “It was kind of a joke,” she recalled. “And now it’s clear to me it wasn’t a joke.”

3 All the allegations of sexual assault/groping against trump were false

I expect to hear crickets ...

I have the perfect solution to this horrible situation. In order that no woman is ever treated badly by the rapey/ muderery men ever again, from now on, all women will remain indoors most of the time, but on the rare occasions when they are allowed out, they must be in the company of a male member of their immediate family, and then only while covered from head to foot. They cannot drive, vote, hold a job, etc.

If something happened 30 plus years ago, that did not involve murder, that you did not make a police report about at the time, and where the statute of limitations has long since headed south - just shut the hell up. Keep it to yourself. Get medical help. But don't talk to the newspaper, write a letter to your congress person, talk to ronan farrow. Just shut up. Even if it is a conservative, even if it is a liberal. If it happened like two years ago - Okey Dokey - shout it from the roof tops.

Then the sex wasnt too hot

Actually, by the standards of the time, not true.

We have many surviving letters between couples & diaries from the time. They are often very frank in their discussion of their sexual desires for each other.

The Puritans were very hostile to expressions of sex outside of marriage, expression of any sort. But, within the bonds of marriage, they expected & encouraged a robust expression of physical love.

I think the big difference between the sexual mores of high church Europe & the Puritans was that high-church society as a whole was much more accustomed to a wink & nod for both early pre-marital sex & for discreet adultery. But, all the Christian Churches thought that once married, couples should bang away lustily at each other. For example, while Roman Catholicism believed in clerical celibacy, it was (& is) a grievous sin for a spouse to deny the other "marital congress". One cannot unilaterally declare oneself to be living a life of Holy Celibacy within the bonds of Matrimony.

This is a total smear job. I don't believe the Ford Story either. Its hard for me to believe that Ford told no one about the incident, and then suddenly remembered it all during a therapy session 30 years later. Why wouldn't she tell her friends to stay away from Kavanaugh, Judge... etc..? What kind of person is she. She didn't tell anyone back then because it never happened. No one remembers it?

Back to the Rameriz story. She claims to remember all of a sudden 35 years later that Kavanaugh dropped his pants at a frat party, and now all of a sudden she is a victim of a horrific incident of bumping into his junk. Its a total smear job. She also claims she was totally drunk at the party. Unless this was the only party she ever attended in college, there is no way she remembers any actual details about any party 35 years later. Its just not a believable story. Oh and shes also a social justice warrior. Don't forget that.

The media likes it because they can say - there is a "pattern" of sexual misconduct. And then lie to people about the stories. But, its really a pattern of the democrat smear machine in overdrive.

It is sad to see that this is where we are in politics.

My guess is that Kavanaugh will be confirmed within two weeks. I can't see the republicans caving on this one. Too much at stake.

From the internets:

"Michael Avenatti, the lawyer representing adult-film actress Stormy Daniels, on Sunday tweeted an email sent to Mike Davis, the chief counsel for nominations for the Senate Judiciary Committee, in which he claimed he is has evidence that Kavanaugh engaged in "the targeting of women with alcohol/drugs to allow a ‘train’ of men to subsequently gang rape them.”

Is Avenatti possibly confusing this scenario with a film from one of his other clients?

The notes and calendars strange? In the age before social media and FB, that’s how people chronicled their lives. Like scrapbooks. Not strange to me- My sister kept a diary and notes on everything from 6th grade on. When she ran out of notebooks she wrote on post-it notes. Every aspirin, vitamin she took, every appointment, every party, every encounter, every guy and every date she ever had. So I believe it. They are in my garage - 46 years worth. She was a Mensa member and collected baseball cards for 20 years. Me? Not so much.

Sloanasaurus said...

I read somewhere that Rameriz claims Kavanaugh "exposed himself to her without her consent."

So if you go to a drunken frat party, aren't you giving consent for being exposed to something like that? If someone pukes on you at the frat party is that battery, or did you give consent to possibly being puked on.

I recall going to a party where some chicks pulled down their tops at the entry way as part of the welcoming committee. Were they exposing themselves to me without my consent? Maybe if I think hard enough about it, after 6 days I will remember one of them was Sonia Sotomayor.

Now, its totally bogus that this story is actually true - i.e. that Kavanaugh was doing the exposing. But, still being exposed to someone's junk at a frat party shouldn't be a surprise. That's why the story is so stupid. Perhaps Ronan Farrow never went to such a party, but he is a rich Hollywood elite type. I am sure they go to nicer parties. So Ronin writing this story was like a guy from Manhattan writing about life in Nebraska. Just sayin'...

I have a feeling Avenatti may have a few skeletons in his closet that are itching to come out.

This is going to be a test for the Republicans in the Senate. The right thing to do is to go ahead and confirm him unless one of these women can produce corroboration for their specific charge- something missing in both stories. If Kavanaugh is voted down on this evidence, there is no point in ever appointing another man to the court if you are a Republican president- literally no point at all- they will all face the exact same tactic. The only reason this wasn't deployed against Gorsuch is that his appointment came in Trump's first months in office, and deploying it then would have just been met by, perhaps Kavanaugh, but then with women candidates- in other words it simply wouldn't have stop the confirmation.

It won't stop it here, either- Trump will select a woman who will be confirmed in the lame duck session if Kavanaugh is forced out, but a line needs to be drawn here if you ever hope have another man selected, and I suspect this is going to be true for both parties, not just Republicans.

Their reputations are raised with basically half the country, and the other half doesn't matter- it isn't like that half was giving them anything to begin with- all they have are words of derision, which they will never read or listen to anyway. You seem to be saying that it is a risk in telling these lies- what is the risk here? My opinion, or the opinion of 150 million Kavanaugh supporters, are irrelevant to Ford and Ramirez. There is no legal jeopardy here, either- no one can prove beyond a reasonable doubt they are lying. They can tell these lies will basic impunity, and they know it. The Senate needs to draw the line that it won't be listened to without basic corroboration. It now appears that Ramirez has as much testimonial support as does Ford- none. If Kavanaugh is voted down on this, it will be repeated again and again- guaranfuckingteed. Republicans will start doing to the Democrats' nominees, too, but the Democrats are probably smart enough to confirm anyway. I doubt the Republicans are that smart.

If, for example, Chuck Schumer were accused by Ramirez, and all the witnesses Ramirez claimed would support her story declined to do so, and not one other witness could be found to support Ramirez's account, do you think The New Yorker print it? I am not saying they would not run a story critical of Schumer like that, but would they do it on only the accuser's word? I don't think so. Does anyone?

If a drunk Kavanaugh tried to rape young girls, and put his erect penis in their faces and demands that they "kiss it," what will he do once he on the Supreme Court? Whichever party he rules in favor of will no doubt have to suck it; the losing side will no doubt be raped by him. Clarence Thomas will surely do the same if Kavanaugh is on the high court. Stare decisis will become scary dicks you must face. The Supreme Court will become the Kavanaugh kangaroo court. The female litigants will throw their panties at the justices during oral argument even at the lesbian ones like Justice Sam Alito.

Who can accuse you? Any woman (or man) with spatial or temporal proximity to you at each discrete moment of your life. Neighborhood, school, work, travel, etc. That can be proved or shown (picture). The story of abuse is only limited to the accuser's imagination. There can not be any blowback for the accuser unless she doesn't keep her plans to herself and her lefty attorneys.

I await a suddenly silent Althouse to come out with a post 'cruelly neutral' to state that Kavanaugh is done, while applying absolutely zero of her logic skills to the incredibly weak testimony from both of these most likely lying women.

I recall an anecdote I read in a cop book. These girls were 'kidnapped' in the middle of busy streets at noon, surrounded with people, and a day or two or three later, with a satisfied 'glow' would 'escape' their captors.

One girl brought a rape accusation against a young man but when the cops looked at the evidence, where the event happened in a public place, during the busy time, where she didn't say a word demanding help...they brought this back to said accuser and asked her about it. "So were you really raped?"

"No...but can you get him to marry me?"

Hmm.

Althouse will be amazed when no one believes women any more when they abuse their credibility so thoroughly. But that is what happens when one is so 'cruelly credulous'.

Does anyone ever ask the question that if Kavanaugh is to be weighed & found wanting for his juvenile behavior then maybe we should judge these accusing women as being drunken sluts for their juvenile behavior?

The answer to that is, Ford and Ramirez shall, regrettably, never be appointed to the Supreme Court. Focus on the fact that Kavanaugh is innocent of these claims.

Let me make it simple for you and for all. What I tell you three times is true:

Kavanaugh is innocent.
Kavanaugh is not guilty.
Kavanaugh didn't do it.

In a perverse way I am beginning to understand a little what many Democrats experienced after the 2016 election. When the next morning they were angry, depressed, kvetching about how they didn't want to get out of bed and go to work. I am starting to feel genuine anger. A significant number of Democrats are demonstrating that they will do absolutely anything and go to any length necessary to hinder the opposition and retake control of the direction of our society.

What stands out most in my mind is Senator Hirono saying on CNN that the presumption of innocence must be seen in the context of how the accused might decide certain cases. I do not ever want to hear these same people say they have principles. They do not. There is only the Cause.

Stop this bs from high school with no actual location, time, place, or people- just an accusation. Now we have a penis in face routine from college? Well hell. Who didn't do that?

Dems are mad. And I don't mean angry, although they are constantly that, too.

As I posted on social media,

I was trying to be fair where Ms. Ford was concerned. I wanted to reserve judgment until we could check out her testimony before the Senate committee.

But now the Dems are trotting out the same ploy again and again with other women: Wild but vague charges, totally unsubstantiated by eyewitnesses or evidence.

The Dems are exploiting the fairness of folks like me to get what they want. They're making patsies out of the rest of us.

Grassley should hear Ms. Ford out. If her charges do seem plausible, he ought to ask the FBI to investigate.

And then he should declare a moratorium on any more unsubstantiated charges. After Ms. Ford's testimony, ONLY hard evidence (photos, VCR videos, police reports, semen samples) should be accepted--if the Dems have any.

FIDO said...

This should be judged with yes or no questions:

"Ms. Ford, do you have a police report substantiating your claims?"

No

"Do you have a specific date or location?"

No

"Do you have any witnesses who will corroborate the events which you state took place?"

No

"Did you have any injuries?"

No

"Do you have any friends you confessed this occurrence to at the time?"

No

"Did you remember these events before 2012?"

??

"Did you say that you would stop at nothing to stop Kavanaugh from getting nominated?"

Yes

"Have you flown an airplane in the last three years?"

Yes

And yet, 'cruel neutrality' leads some persons to believe this story because 'her husband said she was upset.

Let me tell you, as a husband for more than a quarter century, KNOWING she is upset is easy.

Knowing WHY she is upset is outside of our ability and job description.

And a woman 'interpreting' her upset by fourth person reporting...is THAT evidence, Professor?

No.

I wouldn't say "fun" but it's been interesting, for sure. My favorite is that after saying mean idiots like Trump and Trumptards are wrong to attack the Media & call them "the enemy of the people" (since so many of those Media assholes are their friends & help attack Trump) they now have to shift and try to point out how stupid and unethical that same Media is...but without engaging in "populist" or Trump-style attacks. They can't QUITE thread that needle! What burdens they are.

The Supreme Court will become the Kavanaugh Kangaroo Kourt (KKK). The first major decision that will be overturned won't be Roe v. Wade as many fear, but Lincoln's 1863 Emancipation Proclamation that was an illegal freeing of 3,000,000 slaves under cover of the Civil War depriving slaveholders of their rightful property. Trump will be emboldened to deport all 50,000,000 Afro-Americans back to the shithole African cuntries that they were kidnapped from. @Rhhardin will heartily approve of this because blacks have low I.Q.'.s and high unemployment numbers and he routinelly gives "proof" of it on Althouse. Clarence Thomas is proof positive of a black idiot on the Supreme Court one must admit. Justice Thomas may think he has a lifetime appointment, but wait until his stupid black ass is kicked out of the cuntry. Trump will fill the vacancy with a solid KKK member like David Duke.

Read the story- The New Yorker inserted an out against defamation- the writers write that their story is that the Democratic Party is taking this seriously. In other words, Farrow and Mayer are reporting on the Democrats in the Senate and what they think of Ramirez's story, and as such must report the story and their efforts to corroborate it. In other words, if they get sued, they will mount the defense that they are only repeating what Democrats are saying.
