Democrats who introduced abolish-ICE legislation, surprised by Paul Ryan's plan to bring it to the House floor, now say they will vote against their own bill.

The Hill reports.
A group of Democrats who introduced legislation to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said they will vote against the measure if GOP leadership follows through with their vow to bring it to the House floor.

Reps. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.), Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) and Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.) released a statement Thursday accusing GOP leaders of exploiting the legislation for political gain after leadership confirmed it planned to hold a vote.
It takes one to know one, I smile.

By the way... Pocan is my Congressman.

ADDED: This story is the perfect illustration of the phrase "It's all politics."

This was a clever move. But it’s not nice to pick on imbeciles. It is a form of exploitation. And imbecile voters deserve imbecile representation, too. Good to see Madisonians have a representative that reflects them.

Pocan thus forms a doublet with puccoon.

Poke - To thrust (something) in a particular direction such as the tongue.

I guess they weren't really for it before they weren't really against it.

A few years after 9/11 when the Dems were over their brief period of national unity, one of their leaders (Wrangle??) was talking about how a draft was inevitable, in order to sway young voters. A bill was drafted by the Republicans and put to the vote where is was overwhelmingly/unanimously rejected. End of issue.

Just in case it has not yet been noted: LLR Chuck hardest hit.

Mark Pocan is an idiot, but he's gay. So yaaaaay!

It's a tangled web the Dems weave when first they start to decieve.

Maybe we can award the Dems a participation trophy.

Hilarious.

The Dems put forth a bill and when the GOP leadership says that the bill will go to a vote, the Dems frantically back pedal. "We were just kidding! Can't you take a joke? How dare you embarrass us by taking us seriously!"

This exposes just how much of the Democrat agenda is insincere posturing and trying to bamboozle their own voters. Fakers.

It also exposes that they must have too much time on their hands to be able to fart around like this. They need need a day job.

I wonder if LLR has a crush on Alyssa Milano. She must be devastated by Democrat's perfidy and desperately in need of comfort.

This is one good example of why normal people shouldn't get all wrapped up in politics.

It has been said (not by me) that the Lefty brain is better at creativity, and that society needs creators and managers (supplied by those on the Right).

So while I am not sure I give this idea any credence, I am happy to see that at least Three Congress Critters are happy to write Republican ads for us. They can expect to see their 'base building' 'joke' legislation put before sensible and rational voters as well.

Don't say it often, but good for you Paul Ryan. Now how about a budget...and legislation. And oversight of the DOJ. SOMETHING else.

I hope this is only the first of many such maneuvers on the way to November 6.

Nancy Pelosi recommends tax increase. Agenda the next day.

"It's mean to say you think I mean what I say. Petty, spiteful and mean, mean, mean. I am not going to vote for my own bill and that's to show how mean you have been, Meanie."

Just another Democrat wasting everyone's time instead of working for constituents. Tomorrow maybe a little TDS seizure, the next day an interview with Stormy Daniels. Then home to recycle plastic which gets sent to China which is the biggest plastic polluter on the planet sending hundreds of millions of tons of plastic down its rivers into the ocean. Then a sharp letter to Trump explaining that Germany can certainly use Russian natural gas to achieve its Paris Climate accord goals even if Russian natural gas is pumped under conditions causing massive environmental damage. Then a quiet night reading about how Mueller's Wonderful Spangly Investigation has found that 12 Russian spies, one named Potemkin, spied on Hillary Clinton using evil, sneaky which techniques which every Windows administrator is trained to prevent. Hmm, Potemkin ... was he in War and Peace?

Just wondering whether Pocan and Jayapal have called for an end to the Abolish ICE protests that they endorsed now that they will not be voting for the bill.

Much like some of the Obamacare repealers, and they had years to find and agree on a workable solution.

Pocan was also the slimeball who wanted to give Andrew McCabe a job to juice up his pension.

Sorry for being off topic, but I just found out.

If any of you have followed Elisson at Lost in the Cheese Aisle, he has been diagnosed with ALS and decided to start a new blog to chart his passage.

His writing has always captivated me almost as much as Althouse, although in a different way. Wish him well if you can.

Thank you Annie C. I was unfamiliar with his blog but his humor is definitely my style. Sad to hear, though, of his dx.

This is a good preview of the way things would play out if Roe were overturned, and legislators were forced to vote to outlaw abortion.

Ryan has been too effing nice. He could have filled the legislative docket with poison pill legislation like this, but chose not to. So Pocan finally pushed him too far? Big whoop. Glad Ryan’s retiring.

Are you tired, like I am, of the term "our values" constantly and sanctimoniously being invoked?

Worse, how can you know "our values" when you don't even know yours?

"Today I stand in opposition to my own legislation, which does not reflect 'our values'."

Jaypal is a first termer from the heart of Seattle. Libs see her as a trailblazer. The GOP (which doesn't have a prayer inside Seattle) see her as a poster child for everything wrong with Dems (and Seattle).

The GOP is cheering right now - thanks Jaypal!

The even bigger fools are those who voted for these two and were willing to be represented by them.

Its easy to laugh. But the sentiment is serious.

The Democrats don't want immigration laws.

This was a probing attack, designed to see how far they could push, without getting criticized.

They'll be back.

rcocean said...

They're trying to "normalize" the idea of abolishing ICE.

This was step 1.

Following their usual gameplan. See how they got Gay marriage or legalized MJ
