"I am kicking the hornet’s nest, as much as I can. I think it’s important to lean into the controversy..."

"... because I know so much more about it now. I think now enough time has passed where people are starting to see the ridiculousness of what happened to me, and they’re seeing other people that Trump has done it to."

Said Kathy Griffin, quoted in "Kathy Griffin Is Returning to TV, and Still Taking On Trump" (NYT), she'll be playing the part of Kellyanne Conway on an episode of "The President Show" tomorrow.

Instead of "kicking the hornet's net", these idiotic Hollywood Mensa scholars should consider:

1. Identifying a particular Trump policy on the merits
2. Making a coherent argument for or against it.
3. Listening to a coherent opposing view in response.

Like math, logic ain't that hard.

A hornet's nest, like honesty near, is bad.

It ought be kicked, the nest of hornets. Because: kicking is good.

So when Kathy gets her kicks in or out or whatever, kicking is all that matters, because kicking is good, and kicking happened, so therefore it then is good.

"I'm a kicker just for kicks man, I been kickin' it since 1966 man."

Something tells me this new world is the one I wanted, not God's creation. That allows me to act kick-in-the-head real. Part of me, apart from God I fear, really likes this new idea. So new, and so, well, just NEW NEW NEW, it draws me nearer...

Following the links, from link to link:

The agency routinely investigates comments that might be deemed threatening to a president. In 2012, Ted Nugent had to meet with the Secret Service after saying at a meeting of the National Rifle Association, “We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November,” referring to the Obama administration.

The thing that's wince-worthy about the framing here is that the worst treatment Ms. Griffith received was from the people in her own industry. Most people Trump criticizes on Twitter get feted. She got blackballed. You're supposed to hiss through clenched teeth.

So good for Mr. Atamanuik (and BIll Maher) for going their own way.

As for Keillor and Aziz, like Franken, they're the left's own collateral damage, punished for heterosexuality. Now that Bill Clinton is gone, that's unacceptable to them.

the 4chan Guy who reads Althouse said...

I was checking out 4chan like I normally do, seeing what crazy shit people are up to, then I came to Althouse, because after awhile the crazy shit doesn't seem so crazy anymore, which means you gotta stop for awhile. I got a drunk friend who says that about alcohol, but he never really stops, so I guess that means it's rhetorical. If I'm using that word right.

Anyway, I see this post about Kathy Griffin, and I find it ironic, although I'm probably not using that word right, either. I mean, on 4chan a picture of Trump beheaded wouldn't be a big deal; it'd be kinda amateur, as far as 4chan things go. Like, if you're not even going to go with a simple pedophilia gag, then you might as well shut down Photoshop for the night.

But on 4chan, most of the stuff is outrageous to be funny, even if it's sick and wrong. But I don't think Griffin was trying to be funny, she was just getting off on the hate. Which just makes her look sad.

People on 4chan play with the hate matches sometimes, but that's because they work at McDonalds and their girlfriend said she didn't have herpes but she really did have herpes, and life just kinda sucks. But when Griffin tries to be all 4chan she just looks pathetic, because she's not, like, working at McDonalds, you know? I don't know, maybe she does have herpes, but she still looks pathetic.

And I bet if Kathy were to go on 4chan and see all of the Photoshop pictures of her sucking Trump's cock or getting ass-fucked by Anderson Cooper she'd probably feel bad. Because it sucks to be made fun of, which is why a lot of people hide out on 4chan in the first place. But haters always think it's someone else doing the hating, and the bigger you are, the smaller the hate makes you look.

Now, if she was pretty she might get away with it a little bit, but that's just how the world works. I mean, if Emily Ratajkowski said some Nazi shit most guys would still tit-fuck her, right? But I don't think anyone wants to tit-fuck Kathy Griffin, even if she kept her mouth shut. Which IS kinda sad, but she's still not having to work at McDonalds, cleaning toilets with everything smelling like loose shit and french fries.

But I agree with MathMom that Ms. Griffin seems to have a learning disability--she certainly hasn't absorbed the lesson from her last fiasco. But attention whores will do what attention whores gotta do.

You aren't taking credit cards or personal information on the one hand.

But pretty much everyone runs https now. It doesn't really slow performance that much to encrypt. I think users would have to try to go to the un-encrypted version.

People may be able to get stuff out of the un-encrypted version. At minimum they can watch grab the information as it goes through the domain if it is un-encrypted. It isn't like the NSA doesn't have backdoors on everything blogger does anyway.

I loved her brother Merv. He and Trump had a dust-up over Resorts International in 1988. Merv won. He paid $350 million for some casinos that went broke two years later. Easy come, easy go. It all turned out alright. Merv died a billionaire and Trump became POTUS.

Maybe Kathy will die a billionaire.

That's what she said.

Before she roused herself from apology mode and went on the offensive again. She's a comedian. She can't be a victim. She's got to be offensive. It's an amazing thing when you're so offensive the authorities take you in for interrogation. But you know they arrested Lenny Bruce.

I'm glad to see her out and about again. I'd go see her new show if it came to my town.

You'll need to find a better analogy, the acts of Bruce and Griffin are in no way similar. Bruce's use of profane language in his comedy act provoked law enforcement and exposed the law's violation of the first amendment. I suppose it is good that Griffin has rediscovered the courage of her convictions, if that is what she's doing, but that doesn't make her whole severed head thing any more than just a personal attack on Trump.

"A fake memo used by Dan Rather to influence an election in favor of the democrat candidate, is not journalism. It's fraud."

And yet one still marvels at the amateurish nature of the attempt. Perhaps Rather and Mapes couldn't help that their document had very questionable provenance, or that it was obviously run through a photocopier a few times to fuzz it up (this making it unverifiable), but, why did no one bother to find a real typewriter on which to type it?

Perhaps in a century it will be a challenge to find a real, antiqute typewriter, but the things were produced in such large quantities for so many years that it's hardly a challenge to find one today (and it was still easier then).

Then again, how Orwellian is it that Mary Mapes' book, "Truth: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power" is still in print? There must be some who still believe the memo was authentic, and how much will-to-believe does that require?

Just a few comments from Amazon reviewers:

"Excellent book. After reading this book and knowing what happened to Mary Mapes' career just for telling the truth, it's not hard to understand why our journalists are reluctant to go up against people who have such limitless power. The story needs to be told. It makes our country stronger. Thank you, Mary! Well done!"

" Had she been a man, she would still be at CBS."

Maybe it's just time to go full-Pomo, and declare that since there is no truth anyway (all truths are equal but some are more equal), all discourse is merely assertion of power.

In any case, there's certainly a stark contrast between the raw simplicity of Orwell's text and the fantastic obscurantism produced by today's academicians.

Ha! Your comment motivated me to search on Ebay, and it turns out that, even today, one can acquire the very kind of “typewriter” (well, it’s a so-called “composer”) that could then (contrary to modern myth) have duplicated almost exactly* the infamous Dan Rather memo. This machine was the IBM Selectric Composer (introduced in 1966) — along with its programmable typesetting cousin, the IBM Magnetic Tape/Selectric Composer (MT/SC). An instance of the former of these devices is currently available on Ebay for $485.

(*Almost exactly — providing one has equipped the device with a then-available “Times Roman” [ball] font rather than the modern (extremely similar) “Times New Roman” font, which hadn’t yet been designed.)
