Had to drive my wife to work about 6:30 yesterday morning and had a nice view of the Super Blue Blood Moon, it was peaking through a break in a thin cloud cover. Quite beautiful.
I heard in an interview with Barbara Kingsolver years ago that if a woman sleeps outside for an extended period of time her menstrual cycle will eventually coincide with the phases of the moon.
I went surfing this morning in north east Florida at 6:55 under the same moon. Water temps were unusually chilly at 51*f and the air temps at 54*f. Normally I have a rule that I don't surf in water temps below my age (65) unless the air temps are 10* above my age. But the sunrise was so beautiful and the swell running down the sandbanks so sweet that I hit it fully wetsuited in a 3/2 with boots. Froze my ass off.
I stepped out my front door yesterday morning at 5:00 in my PJs and bathrobe to watch the lunar eclipse, before the moon set behind the Spring Mountains.
I have a MILF-y friend who thinks that if she wants to go out to her front doorstep to get the mail or the morning paper she shouldn't have to get dressed to do it. She thinks any one who's offended by nudity should just avert their eyes. Of course she loves in Florida so she could get away with it if she wanted to. Not only is it warmer but her neighbors are all senior citizens with no children to scandalize.
"Pants or anyone, does that coincidence happen with groups of women living together? I read it somewhere."
Not proven:
Alvergne is not surprised that women observe overlap in their menstrual cycle with their friends.
"The question is - does it happen by chance or not? By chance you would expect it to happen at least half of the time."
Some academics recently decided to find out if the findings of synchronicity of periods could be put down to chance. They looked at six years' worth of data of the menstrual cycles of our close cousins, baboons.
"They proposed two models," says Alvergne. "One was the model with the exciting hypothesis" also known as the "evolved strategy" in which women sync as a defence against dominant males.
"And the other model was the boring model. Where the patterns are explained by chance."
The researchers compared how much each model would account for the data being observed. They found that the model assuming that patterns would appear by chance was the best model by far.
More research could be carried out in the future that does reveal evidence that women's periods sync. But currently many researchers are sceptical.
True story. I was in an invitation only multi-disciplinary liberal arts program into my sophomore year in college. In one class the professor wanted us to analyze this particular song which was a hit at the time. I suddenly realized that I was paying a LOT of money for this kind of education and changed over to Business & Accounting the next semester.
That's nice picture - makes me miss Wisconsin. It's hard to capture the different light of a super moon - almost daylight but different light frequencies than the sun and so the familiar is changed.

I am the moon.
That's no moon....
The moon is always female.
Selene did well this morning. Of course, she was nowhere to be found yesterday with the clouds.
You know, if only Lady MacBeth had had BleachBit.
The FBI and CIA, etc all fighting the release of this memo raises the very real question of “Whose country do they think it is?”
Why I went outside at 6:55 a.m. in just a sweater when it's 9°.
Didn't your butt get cold?

Talk about a super blue moon!

Just a sweater??? That's hot. Very hot. That also one-ups the sandals-and-shorts bozos who thought THEY were the cool kids.
I wear very long sweaters.

My wife is always pointing out how pretty the moon is to me too. Must be a woman thing.
Sometimes I even pretend i'm interested. It doesn't seem slow her down if I'm not.

The once-mighty blog has gone from "Althouse Vortex" to "Looney Bin." Sad! [no, I'm not being serious]

I hope you had something else on under the sweater, Madison being such a conservative town and all.

My three teen daughters and I report back that yes, it does!
So no sandals?
Mueller files to delay Flynn's sentencing.
It happens once in a blue moon, I guess.
The internet cut out on me, so I looked up from my computer screen and saw the moon.
Sad!!
I see people in cross-walks with their eyes down, and ears wired to the phone. I hope it ends quickly.
