"Remember, Trump's broader stated goal is 'merit-based' immigration. His new 'DACA deal' is just that."

"He brings the illegals out of the shadows by registering them. They screw up once, they're gone. He just added a 'merit-based' filter to illegal immigration. Smart."

Tweets Bill Mitchell, quoted in American Thinker (via Instapundit).

I’m really struck by this fact; they place the welfare of foreigners over their own fellow citizens. This point needs to be highlighted in the political discussions going forward. They believe that the stain of white America’s original sin, genocide and slavery, runs so deep that the baby must be thrown out with the bathwater.

And you know what? Slavery and genocide were pretty bad! But one has to wonder about how other great nations came into being. Did China just organically and peacefully grow out of a cluster of neighboring tribes, whose fractures just magically healed, and who all peacefully assented to rule by the emperor? Or is it possible that some force was involved?

The problem with American history is that it is recent. That doesn’t mean it can be undone.

The limousine liberals living in Potomac, MD, and Great Falls, VA, have found “undocumented” laborers who will mow their multi-acre estates and clean their 9000 sq. ft. mansions for $30, and they’re hoping to find some newer into this country who’ll do it for less. Bad news, folks. Not only will they lose the deduction for their blue locality taxes and their obscene mortgages, but now they’re maybe going to have to pay something like a decent wage to their maids and the people who cut their grass. The limousine liberals may even have to pull Muffy out of Hilton Arms or Madeira and send her to the local public high school.

One of our acquaintances used to be all for multiculturalism and lectured us on our duty as Americans to open our hearts to undocumented immigrants. Then her daughter, attending Whitman, the premier public high school in Montgomery County, MD, got her butt swatted walking to class. All of a sudden the woman was in the principal’s office demanding to know what she was going to do to control “those animals.” Hey, lady! It’s their cultural heritage, you know.

It's not just low-skilled jobs. When I was kid in the late '50's growing up on the outskirts of Atlanta, I watched a number of new houses built on my street. I was fascinated with it. I watched one summer as a beautiful new home was built across the street. White and black men - concrete finishers, masons, carpenters, roofers - worked all summer building that house.

Two years ago, my wife and I, having lived in TN for most of the past 40 years, decided to build a small home in a new development in the northern suburbs of Atlanta to use when we are there. Every two weeks or so I would go down to check on the construction. Every single worker I observed - concrete finishers, masons, roofers, painters, electricians - was Mexican. Every. Single. One. Most spoke little or no English. They did a good job, but I kept wondering - where did all the black and white American men go that used to have these jobs?

Yes. Exceptions being Kaus and Coulter who are now fighting a rear-guard action.

I love how the lefty-LLR side argues this is a huge amnesty give away.

All the while the lefty allied side argues this offer is literally white supremacy.

Perhaps Trump intuitively understood is that the dems don't really want a solution, that they want the issue, as such he offered "more" than the dems asked for in terms of pathway to citizenship (what Chuck pretends to be outraged about) knowing all along the dems would never actually go for it (which the dems have already demonstrated conclusively).

So lets summarize, shall we?

Trump has offered a plan that based on numbers alone, is MORE than the dems asked for. More than obama ever proposed!

And the dems are saying it's white supremacy and will not go for it.

Gee, I wonder who will get the better of that argument with independents?

Once again, as always and forever will be, every single bit of "instinctive" advice LLR Chuck offers up is a roadmap to defeat for republicans.

Rance gets it.

And everyone should take a deeper look at the timeline/rules required for the Dreamers/DACA whatever's to attain citizenship.

As some wag noted elsewhere, despite what the lefties and their LLR allies say, not all these DACA/DREAMER types are Nobel-prize winning valedictorian Medal of Honor winners.

Only half the original estimated number of these dreamer types even signed up for the program. That's because many are in trouble with the law or have other infractions that will keep them from attaining citizenship. So even if Trump offers it, those "candidates" are already in violation and cannot reach the citizenship goal.

Further, in a 10 to 12 year span that it would take, how many others will find themselves no longer eligible?

Lots.

At the end of the time period, we probably are talking about well under a million total.

So Trump doubled the numbers on the dems, making them look bad, knowing it won't really be that number.

I think that a lot of Trump’s base can be brought around on his Dreamer Fix. The DACA Qualifications require no felonies, no more than two misdemeanors (which typically include a lot of DUIs), plus a high school diploma, and no welfare. Which means to me, that in another decade we would be giving citizenship to a bunch of people who had worked hard and kept their noses clean for a decade or maybe even two. Objectively, maybe the best of the illegals.

I think that the Democrats problem is that they have long fudged things a lot, when it comes to illegal immigrants. They talk “Dreamers”, but are most interested in those who wouldn’t qualify, because they don’t have a high school diploma, are on welfare, etc. they are the logical Dem voters of the future. They really want amnesty for all illegals, because they desperately need the votes. It is slight of hand, pure and simple. They talk about Dreamers, but draft legislation that would give the vote to > 10 million illegals. According to them, you would have to be a racist, with a stone heart, to not give them what they want.

What Trump has done is to call their bluff. He has taken the heart tug away from the Democrats by carefully defining what a “Dreamer” is. And has cut off their ability to bring in their extended families. This is, of course, what the Democrats say they want - to protect those Dreamers who came here as young children, became valedictorians of their high school classes, and risk deportation to countries they don’t remember. How sad. So, Trump offers the Democrats exactly what they say that they want. But, of course, the Dreamers were never their real goal, just a convenient way to get amnesty for tens of millions of illegals. Caught between what they say that they want, and what they really want, the Democrats essentially are forced to blow up the negotiations (As Lil Dick Turbin did with the shithole “leak). So, they are going to be forced to vote against what they say they most want.

Original Mike said...

You have to have had an interest in the issue, and come upon non-mainstream sites in a search for info. The press has always happily published the pushers' saccharine propaganda, and until recently most Americans have bought it.

But lately, geez, the pushers don't seem to have noticed that the mike is on (and that the MSM no longer controls propogation of info). None of 'em have yet come out screaming "we hate 'legacy' Americans with a burning hatred (especially you white ones!) and we want to replace you all, you filthy Nazis!", but day-yum, they've been coming pretty close.

We need to encourage them. Keep talking, Dems and LLRs! Please, please, please! Louder! We can't hear you! Tell us how you really feel! Totally a winning electoral stategy! Don't stop!

Oh, wait.

Is today a "Trump owns the economy" day?

That's so strange because for the last several weeks all the dem talking heads on TV (whom Chuck adores presumably) have been crowing that our performance to date is all due to obama.

LOL

There have been some great stories floating around about employees all over the country who bought into ARM/Leftylies about how the tax cuts were going to hurt the employee, only find out that the situation is actually the opposite.

You could not ask for a more direct "cause and effect" rapid exposure of a widespread lefty/dem lie than that!

And LLR Chuck weeps.

ARM: "I pointed out that it was going along much as it has for the last nine years."

Yep.

It is simply a coincidence that companies are moving production back to the US and bonues/employment opportunities/wages are all increasing in addition to the massive 401k gains.

It's all just a coincidence that it coincides with the Trump admin reduction of regulations, clear signals the more regulation reductions are on the way, the massive tax decreases, etc.

Just a simply coincidence. Nothing to it really.

I strongly, passionately suggest the dems add that to their already well established 2018 campaign slogans to create a new "Impeachment! Open Borders! Republicans are White Supremacists! You Really Aren't Any Better Off Economically" campaign theme.

LLR Chuck will probably help you print up some flyers.

This is how it was. In fact I can remember writing here that the only positive thing I expected out of the Trump presidency was a decrease in the corporate tax rate, because Republicans had blocked it for the last six years and could now hardly continue to do so. You don't get any credit for failing to do the right thing by the country for six years and then suddenly changing course because of political expediency.

The US fell badly behind the best parts of the EU in the most important metric (or a more important metric), which is total employment rate, back in 2009, and has not caught up.
I posted my analysis here early last year.

US GDP growth stats have been hurt by trade-deficit effects since the 1970s; this has been an ongoing problem since then. Oddly enough the trade deficit usually improves during recessions and worsens during expansions, as US demand falls and rises again. The best recent example of this is 2009-2010, when the deficit fell tremendously and then increased substantially (making up about half the diff between 2008-2009) in 2010.

An increasing trade deficit generally seems to track consumer spending.

You don't get to pick and choose which parts of the EU to include in an analysis, it's an economic bloc. Including or excluding Alabama from the US stats is going to have an effect as well.

The big blue states are doing better than the country as a whole. You don't see me trying to draw any conclusions from that.

Heck, that should be a standard for Americans to retain their citizenship. Or at least voting rights.

@Chuck, three things. First, IIRC (and I think I do) in that same thread you admitted that Durbin is a liar, yet you took, and continue to support, Durbin over Cotton and Perdue. So you accept the word of one Democrat senator, whom you admit is a liar, over two Republican senators. Strange position for a lifelong Republican to take.

Secondly, America has reached a sad pass when one cannot refer to shithole countries as shitholes without people figuratively clutching their pearls and casting about for a fainting couch. Especially so when those same pearl-clutchers did not so much as blanch when Kirsten Gillibrand and Joe Biden lobbing F-bombs in public.

And third, try to grow a pair. You whine too much to be a Republican in good standing.

buwaya said...

Yes I do get to pick. The US is a more advanced economy overall than France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal.
All of these have always had much lower labor participation rates than their northern neighbors, and a social system that permits not only a black market for labor (not picked up by official statistics) but extreme rates of youth unemployment. Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, etc. have always been more comparable to US historical performance.

The US in 2009 went from Northern-European levels to more than halfway to Southern European levels, which I pointed out. And it has not recovered even half that loss yet.

“The U.S. expanded at a 2.6% annual pace in fourth quarter, extending one of the best stretches of growth during the current eight-and-a-half-year-old upturn. GDP fell short of MarketWatch's 3% forecast, however, owing to lower inventory production and a bigger trade deficit. Consumer spending, the main engine of the economy, rose a strong 3.8%, the biggest increase in almost two years. Investment in new housing increased 11.6%, business spending on equipment surged 11.4% and outlays on structures edged up 1.4%, according to Commerce Department data. Yet the value of inventories declined by $29.3 billion. Trade was an even bigger drag on GDP. Imports jumped 13.9%, doubling the 6.9% rise in exports.”

Bangladesh is still considered a hardship post. If you need and can afford high quality medical care, you have to go pretty far, because India is not much better in truth.

Always the chance for another housing bubble to burst. In fact, Cavuto had on one of the fellows who predicted the last housing bubble burst (I tuned in late so I don't know if it was Michael Burry or not) and this fellow opined that the strength of the overall market should be sufficient to minimize damage due to a housing bubble burst.

He spent some time chatting about the over-building given the millenials weak demands for single-family homes, opting instead for condo's in urban areas.

One problem with this from a democrat/lefty/LLR point of view.

obama's unconstitutional DACA maneuver is set to run out in March. So Trump wins by doing nothing. He doesn't have to move.

A simple fact of which any good negotiator would be keenly aware.

Naturally, the lefties/LLR's will go judge-shopping (as they already have) to find a judge who is willing to rule that it is literally Unconstitutional for Trump to abide by the Constitution in getting rid of Obama's Unconstitutional action.

Unexpectedly.

snip: "he public may see the issue differently, according to the Harvard-Harris poll of American adults, taken Jan. 17-19.

The survey asked respondents what level of overall legal immigration they would like to see.

A stunning 35 percent said the level should be fewer than 250,000 a year, while another 19 percent said it should be 250,000 to 500,000. Combined, they make up a majority looking for a cut of at least 50 percent over current annual levels. Another 18 percent said they want to see 500,000 to 1 million. Just 19 percent of respondents said they want an increase over 1 million.

Mr. Trump hasn’t said recently what legal immigration number he wants to see, but he has been vocal on changing the way the U.S. picks immigrants. He said skills and ability to assimilate in the U.S. should be weighted over extended family ties.

The poll says voters agree by a 79 percent to 21 percent margin."

Federal funds rate at present is 1.5%. This gives the feds plenty of room to control ordinary inflation. 4 to 6% retail interest rates are the historical norm. Yes, inflation would compound the deficit problems, but like Drago said, we are a long ways from what Volker had to deal with.

My worries lie more along the lines of a series of short intense 'bubbles' (call it extreme volatility+). Enough of them to drag any economy under. An intensifying effect of a hot economy. Per Drago, what goes up must come down. And while it doesn't apply at present, note that the Fed shot it's wad on QE last time. That's not a usable tool next time. They would have to increase money supply x100 to have any affect.

And back to immigration. Getting that right (needed amount of workers in an expanding economy) is a part of the economic puzzle that needs solved upfront.

“Your surrender is accepted.”

Hardly a surrender, more like an appeal to be patient. The US has 35% of the electorate who live in a delusional state since the election of Trump and in all actuality, probably long before that. It doesn’t help anyone or the US to indulge in fantasy. Democrats/ lefties, progressives need to keep their heads out of the clouds and get down to work filling seats in the House and Senate in 2018. That is the number one priority.

I can't wait to see the results of the Democrat's "Illegals First!" campaign in 2018.

I kinda want to start a temporary consulting agency for the 2018 election to help all the plutocrats spend record amounts of money in 2018 getting that message out.

I think we need to get "Crumbs" Pelosi's face up on every billboard.

We should trumpet the success of the #SchumerShutdown!

And don't forget the Mueller, Comey, and Clinton indictments. One of those should hit about November 1st.

Yell RACIST! a couple more times too. That'll do it.

When it comes to having an election issue without the need to actually really wanting to serve the "affected" people, you just need a complicit media (check), a large number of uninformed voters (check) and well trained stooges to promote it (e.g. Pelosi)

pacwest: I share those same and similar concerns. Quantative easing (inflation), deficits, 8-fucking-years with no budget, unstimulating stimuli, unprecedented growth of the debt, and a lazy president who believed the future is limited to 2% growth and wasn't going to do a damn thing about it combined to make any bubble pops unsurviveable events, IMO.
Now that the economy is finally, finally getting out of first gear for the first time in a decade we should, perhaps, worry about overheating the engine. But right now I feel the torque taking hold, I am being pressed back in my seat by the acceleration, and it is great to see the scenery passing by again. I also feel that there is an experienced driver at the wheel and not some 16yo who is spending all his time taking selfies and checking his phone.
And I do so want to hear the engine roar.

This cannot be allowed. You are in the way of Democrats accumulating power.

I heard you had some hookers pee on a bed. Or something.

We are going to have to have the FBI/NSA spy on you for a bit.

Because "Collusion." Collusion isn't even a crime but you are saying RACIST stuff. So we need to see if we can find some crimes.

This is ok. Because Democrats.

Inga/ARM/leftists can't figure out how anyone would have a problem with this.

I would normally call it explanation by hyperbole/humor.

Except it is literally what happens. The left is just awful.

So it isn't funny.

“Inga: "Trump won’t strike any deals giving DACA protections to Dreamers."

“He just offered to do more than that. He offered them citizenship.”

His offers aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. He’s untrustworthy and won’t follow through when his base starts hitting him hard for going back on his campaign promises. Breitbart is already calling him “Amnesty Don”. Democrats should not make deals with him. Also, the news reports and videos of immigrants being deported will be blazing across written and televised media. Trump didn’t need to end DACA, he did it because he wants 700,000 DACA recipients to be deported to appease his base. He may care for these people, but any desire he has to help them will dissapear when his base starts screaming. He has no real idea of how the mass deportations will play, especially right before the election.

All the demodrats had to do, Inga, was say "OK" and PDT would have been in a corner. He did, indeed, offer more than they were asking.

PDT would have taken mucho heat from the right, true. But he would have pinned down taking both enfilading and defilading fire... Yet the dems said no.

And, Dummy, PDT hasn't 'ended' DACA. It automatically expires in March.

Your analysis is bullshit.

Original Mike said...

Last I looked, Ann Coulter wasn’t President.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

There are enough of Trump’s base that won’t tolerate amnesty and they will raise holy hell if Trump goes down that path.

“Fox News host Laura Ingraham said on her show Friday that no White House official would appear on “The Ingraham Angle” to defend President Trump’s recently-unveiled immigration plan.

“It’s not the plan I would want,” Ingraham told her viewers, opposing the proposal. “We invited any White House official on to the show tonight. We were told we were going to have one, and then they pulled him at the last minute.”

“I want to hear from the White House on this,” she continued. “We hope to have someone on Monday.”

Yeah, that was supposed to be some weird salient point or something.

Ok, Ill try: "Pizza Hut!", "Charlie Sykes!", "Frosty The Snowman!"

Wow. Powerful stuff. Compelling even.

It would pay to know what you’re talking about before calling others dummies, dummy.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/trump-dreamers-daca-immigration-announcement-n798686

“WASHINGTON —The Justice Department announced on Tuesday it is ending DACA, the Obama-era program that allowed undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children to remain in the country, while also giving Congress a six-month window to possibly save the policy.

Under the plan, announced by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the Trump administration will stop considering new applications for legal status dated after Tuesday, but will allow any DACA recipients with a permit set to expire before March 5, 2018, the opportunity to apply for a two-year renewal if they apply by October 5.”

That might be the tenth person Inga has called a sociopath.

Odd.

Drago said...

Sorry Inga. DACA is unconstitutional. Even obama said so. If you disagree that would make you a racist. Toxic Whiteness I would say.

Trump may extend it a bit to allow for a smoother transition back to Constitutional-Ville, but make no mistake this unconstitutional action by ibama will end.

This is going to be a fun election. Dem campaign: Shut up stupid American voters while we replace you with foreigners!

Fantastic!

We alk know how much the lefties love their dictators, but this is one little area that the lefties are going to have to deal with as if we were a Republic...because thats what we are.

Anonymous said...

Watch this Inga, see how it is done.

You are correct. I should've stated that PRT gave Congress 6 months to come to a legislative solution to the Dreamers issue. This issue came about because Obama chose to play dictator and go around Congress and created the Dreamers by fiat. Even after he told the public many times that he had no constitutional authority to do so. PDT's move was to force a real, legislative solution to this Obama-created problem.

Drago said...

Inga seems surprised that follow on Presidents arent big fans of previous Presidents unconstitutional actions.

Huh. Go figure.

No, only those of you that fit the bill. Not ten, more accurately it would be about three of you. And what you three have in common is a strange obsession with me and other lefty commenters.

Oh, now I get it.

You are neither familiar with nor capable of processing counter arguments.

This "strange Obsession" you refer to is a little thing we on the right call 'disagreement'.

Of course, one of the most common traits of leftists for the last 100 years is to abuse psychiatry to criminaluze opposing views.

Thus has occured in every single leftist nation. Most notably the Soviet Union, the former Eastern bloc, Castros Cuba, etc.

Drago said...

And, of course, western leftists could always be counted on to deflect from the abuse of psychiatry by other leftists.

Utterly unsurprising that the left now deflects for islamic extremism.

Anybody else think Inga is sounding desperate?

I suspect if Trump curtailed illegal immigration while showing compassion to the Dreamer population, he’d win over a huge chunk of the middle. I was a reluctant Trump voter the first time, but if he pulled this off I’d vote for him enthusiastically the next time. Twice.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

Nope, but points for once again mischaracterizing others’ comments. The strange obsession is the personal attention and insults, like the one livermoron ejected out of his gaping maw @ 1:09 PM.

Drago has it right.
You just can't handle pushback. Couple that with the insecurity you have about your own intelligence (justifiably so, you'll be glad to hear), and you have a deeply unpleasant individual doomed to ignorance.

None of us forced you to act as you do. It has always been your choice.
