"Donald Trump is going all out to persuade seven-term Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch to seek reelection..."

"... a push aimed in no small part at keeping the president’s longtime nemesis, Mitt Romney, out of the Senate," according to Politico.

Isn't there a Bannon candidate to run against Romney? Is Christine O'Donnell unavailable? Sharron Angle? Todd Akin? David Duke? Kid Rock? Jim McMahon? Vince McMahon?

I don't really think Trump is afraid of a Romney Senatorial seat as much as he is supporting Hatch, who has supported him. Flake is 'retiring' so Romney's hostile vote would just replace his.

Romney is smart, decent, and would try to do the right thing. If that meant opposing Trump on certain items, I am sure he would do so. On others, he would be an advocate. I hope Romney runs.

So Trump's personal vendetta versus Romney "sounds reasonable." But any hint of "revenge" from Romney, which quite unlike Donald Trump he's basically never displayed, is unacceptable to you.

I don't want to get too high on my horse over any hypocrisy in this. Because personally, I'd get a lot if enjoyment out of an enormous helping of revenge, served ice cold, on Trump. But unlike Trump, I put the interest of the Republican Party above personal revenge.

I don't see Romney wanting to spend six years in DC voting "no". What a waste of life for a guy like that.

If he gets the seat, put him on health care. You'll either solve the problem or he can spend his weekends on Meet the Press talking about how difficult it is to get anything done.

Chuck, Trump supporting an incumbent who has been a supporter is "a personal vendetta" while Romney recruiting Egg McMuffin to try to throw the election to Hillary is mature wisdom.

Romny is a Nazi. He's one of the nicer Nazis, of course. And he seems to want to oppose Trump, so that's a plus. Kind of a lowercase sieg heil kind of guy. The kind of guy who kidnaps 15 year-old girls, but then keeps them in a nice basement with cable and good food until they turn 18 and he can start molesting them without being called a pedophile.

Mormons are careful about that these days.

Evan McMullen, however, is a patriot because he seems to truly despise Trump. Unless he runs as a Republican. Then, you know, Nazi pedophile all the way.

Also: Russia. I hear it's coming down any day now.

Republicans sure are the stupid party. Romney did everything he could to help elect Hillary, he didn't do one goddamn thing to help Trump in 2016. He demanded Trump release his tax returns, called him a liar and a "racist". And refused to vote for him. In 2017, he's attacked Trump for leaving the Climate Accords, and joined the Dems and attacked Trump over the Charlottslville nonsense.

He's not a conservative, he just lies about it on the Campaign trail. He supports globalization, open borders, and bad trade deals. He cucks on everything. And to top it all, he's 70 fucking years old. If you're going to ditch Hatch, why not elect a younger man who will stick around for 30 years?

No, in 2012, Inga was babbling about "binders of women" and how Romney caused cancer, was guilty of cruelty towards his dog and cut a boy's hair in high school. At that time Mitt was worse than Hitler, but now Trump is worse than Hitler, and Romney hates Trump so Romney has become, hesto presto, a decent guy.

As Drago says, history begins anew every day for leftists. Unfortunately for them, the rest of us do not have the attention spans of fruit flies.

gadfly said...

Really? Trump priorities has him going back to campaigning to reelect a near-nonagenerian to oppose Mitt because Romney doesn't spend all day lying to us. And besides that, Romney doesn't like Trump.

Consequences are immaterial in decision-making and history never repeats itself - well, it usually doesn't repeat itself but reading Trump's personal lawyer, John Dowd:

"The President cannot obstruct justice because he is the chief law enforcement officer under [the Constitution's Article II] and has every right to express his view of any case . . ."

Richard Nixon infamously and embarrassingly told talk show host David Frost [in 1977], "When the president does it that means that it is not illegal."

So lying and dishonesty go hand in hand.

Chuck said...

No Michael K you are reading me wrong as always. I like Senator Hatch and I have always liked him. Way back when Donald Trump was a Democrat and making donations to the Clintons so that they would come to his wedding, I liked Senator Hatch. If Trump likes Hatch that's fine. No doubt Trump would like Hatch if it was useful to Trump personally. But behind Hatch's back, Trump would be making low-grade jokes about Mormons.

Anyway, it's one thing if Trump really liked Hatch and wanted him to stay to avoid a fight for an open seat in a purple state. Mitch McConnell can handle those deals.

This is something different, if we are to believe this story. In this story, Trump's opposition to Romney, not his support of Hatch, is the lede.

With that out of the way, Romney would make a fine Senator from Utah and would be no different in that seat than Hatch has been. I thought Romney would have made a fine president, too, but I also recognized that he lacked the fire that was needed in order to actually win that seat in the first place- a lack of fire that showed up last year during his half-hearted digs at Trump during the primaries.

It is hilarious, though, reading about this brouhaha- had Trump supported another candidate over Hatch, the stories in the very same publications would have been how Trump is stabbing Hatch in the back trying to drive him into retirement in favor of Romney.

3) •making explicit and offensive reference to sex or bodily functions; coarse and rude.

Romney if he ran in Utah would almost certainly win. Romney's first major political splash was rescuing the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics; and Romney got like 80% of the vote in Utah.

No one has the chops to challenge him in name recognition and fundraising. I don't even think our very popular governor could pull it off.

I'm sure the local Democrat party will try to smear him once again, though. Perhaps they will borrow Chuck, who is more comfortable attacking Republicans in vile terms. Or Inga, who wants to kill them.

It's up to Hatch and there is no evidence that Trump is intervening. Politico is a leftist mouthpiece,

He said "out of her wherever." Megyn Kelly has not been the same since.

Supreme Court reinstates Trumps Travel Ban.

"Bowe Bergdahl Republican" Chuck hardest hit. Inga standing by to provide political solace.

Chuck said...Isn't there a Bannon candidate to run against Romney? Is Christine O'Donnell unavailable? Sharron Angle? Todd Akin? David Duke? Kid Rock? Jim McMahon? Vince McMahon?

Riiiiight...those are "Bannon candidates." Geez man, it'd be so much easier just to stick to reality, wouldn't it? Bannon has actually backed some losers recently.

I really don't know many LifeLongRepublicans who seriously accuse other Republicans of secretly supporting David Duke. I know you, Jennifer Rubin, and Evan McMullin do, but that's about it. Other than you three I mostly hear that from hard Left/woke Progressive idiots for whom anyone to the right of Hilary = a racist Nazi lover.
It's just really puzzling to hear that same attack come from a real Republican! Baffling.

LMAO! What a loon.

Trump loves Orrin. Both are old time American Patriots. Now they will together hatch a great America again.

How’s that for positive thinking? I bet it works. The only thing old folks need to keep going is honor and a position that makes them wanted.

John Tuffnell said...Romney is smart, decent, and would try to do the right thing. If that meant opposing Trump on certain items, I am sure he would do so. On others, he would be an advocate. I hope Romney runs.

I voted for Romney and lamented his loss (I put that as the turning point for the nation--as both the signal and the action that put us on a path away from our conservative roots from which we will likely not recover) but as of today I don't think I'd include "decent" in there--not after his comments essentially supporting/backing the Antifa violence in VA. That's hard to forget.
