Meade brought that bittersweet home, after helping a neighbor do some pruning. I clipped it into shape and got it into the vase, which was weirdly hard to do. Bittersweet gets entwined with itself, and the orange berries fall off if you try to disentangle it, get rid of the empty sticks, and coax things into an upright posture.

"There are to my count five of these allegations against Al Franken. There are four — three or four — against the congressman. At the end of the day, I would suspect that Nancy Pelosi is going to have to explain what is the discernable difference between Al Franken and John Conyers. That is a question that she is going to have to answer. And again, he is not going to be pressured by Nancy Pelosi or anyone else to step down. That decision will be made by Congressman Conyers as to what his next course is. That will not be today, that will not be tomorrow."

The number of deaths resulting from war will increase by 1.1 million per year (4 additional weapons (250 kt) * 50% chance of a successful detonation * 546 deaths per successful detonation). It follows that a war in 2019 will cause expected deaths of 2.5 million, a war in 2020 will cause expected deaths of 3.6 million, and so on. A war in 2048 will cause expected deaths of 34.2 million."

You have got to think that all these numbers have been run over and over by teams in the Pentagon.

Does anyone remember the recent kerfuffle over Sarah Sanders' chocolate pecan pie? According to a tweet linked to by Glenn Reynolds, April Ryan -- the sweet lady from MSNBC who made the claim on zero point zero zero evidence that Sanders had not backed said pie -- has not received an invitation to the White House Christmas Party. “I don’t think I was overlooked,” she said. “I think they don’t like me. For whatever reason, they have disdain for me.” Well, April, it occurs to me that they might overlook your assertion that Sanders did not bake the pie, but when you later said you would not take a bite of said pie because "you guys don’t like the press," that was maybe a bridge too far.

The reason that it is so easy for Dems to jettison Conyers is because he's now an embarrassment to their party. Conyers is senile; or crazy; or both. His seat is as safe a seat for Dems as there is in the House.

When the liberal, aggressively progressive Deatroit Free Press calls on Conyers to resign (indeed was one of the first entities to do so), you know it is all over.

Under Article I, Conyers' seat will be put up for a special election. Michigan's Republican governor won't appoint a Republican to hold it until a special election. And so a Democrat will take it again. And all that the Democrats lose is a potentially large embarrassment. The whole Conyers Enterprise, from the felon wife, to the not-ready-for-prime-time staff and entourage, to the Congressman himself (who quit doing interviews a long time ago for fear of his embarrassing himself as he did when he wandered out of a campaign meeting with the Freep Editorial Board).

Disappearing for 2-3 weeks back at the height of the crack epidemic in the 80's; being picked up by Detroit Police with no pants in the median of Livernois Avenue during an off-year campaign for mayor; sitting in his federal building office while his wife was sentenced to federal prison two floors below; a hundred other bizarre statements to journalists or in Congressional hearings... it is all vintage Conyers.

They have been trying to leverage Conyers out of the Judiciary Committee leadership for more than a year. I still believe that it was Dems who outed this story. It was in their interest to do it. At least some of them.

Republicans could learn a valuable lesson in this; to cut ties with the outlier members of the party against whom credible allegations have been made.

Even if someone were to agree with the importance of the Alabama Senate seat, the fact remains that this is a problem because of the support for Moore in the primary. It will be a problem, just as you describe, if Moore loses; and it will remain a problem if Moore wins.

I mentioned previously that, in a roundabout way, the appearance of the Acid Kid caused 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds' to be played on the jukebox. It really was a roundabout way, although -- in retrospect -- it pretty much just seems A to B. But back to the song: this brought forth a discussion amongst the regulars about a particular claim of trivia: did John Lennon really not intend the song title as a reference to LSD?

The story is that his son Julian made a picture. When asked what the picture was of, he replied his schoolmate Lucy. And she was in the sky. With diamonds. John Lennon claimed he didn't notice the acronym formed by the major words. A lot of the argument at the bar can be boiled down to: of course he knew.

Lennon took LSD. Lennon was clever. Lennon liked to tweak noses. Of those he believed needed their noses tweaked. Again: of course he knew.

So I took the other argument. Because I like to do that. I pointed out that McCartney confirmed the painting story. Which led to a side argument on the merits of Paul McCartney. 'Silly Love Songs' was mentioned. John and Paul: people still feel compelled to pick one and denigrate the other. People did that with John and Yoko, too, but that pretty much went one way; not many people on the other side of the fence on that one.

I then pointed out that Ringo confirmed it: Ringo was there when Lennon's son Julian first said the name of the drawing. There are grumbles: everyone has an affection for Ringo. 'With a Little Help From My Friends' gets played on the jukebox occasionally. But it usually is the Joe Cocker version. But even then: Ringo, in spirit.

Finally, I point out that Julian confirms the story, and that they have even tracked down the girl from school, Lucy, who remembers painting with Julian. The only way to believe Lennon lied about the LSD reference is to believe all of those people are part of a conspiracy.

So: those at the bar then basically said that all of those people were part of a conspiracy. In so many words. Basically.

Because when you want the story to be true then it is true regardless of the truth; few people will be convinced otherwise. Paul is Dead Man, Miss Him Miss Him.

Conspiracy theories are great bar fodder. For instance: the JFK assassination is always good for a few hours. And that's just debating whether Oswald really was a Communist.

Where ice has borrowed, spring is lent away:
A princess comes to live in exile’s realms,

Though holding fast – reveals and overwhelms.

The nothing left is less than chaff – a creed

The bittersweet and many-seeded need
To see beyond the light that darkness casts.

So how does the verdict make sense? If you believe him, why is he guilty of a gun charge? If you don’t believe him, why isn’t he guilty of at least manslaughter? The only way it makes sense is as, yeah he did it so we'll give him a slap on the wrist to spite Trump. That's incredibly serious. Society will not long survive that kind of thing.

walt,

I do know the HREF code.

But, I don't use it cause I don't wanna make y'all think that I'm rick rollin' ya to an evil site, e.g. the failing NYT.

Yes, I know that y'all can hover a hyper link to see the address. But, I believe in full, in your face transparency, so that's not good enough. IMHO.

When did that start? I can recall you defending Hillary with absolute certainty without the benefit of any links and refusing to follow links to the New York Times, Wa Pa, Christian Science Monitor, Politico, etc, etc, etc,

This murder was meaningless, but the Charlottesville murder signaled a descent into fascism.

It's sort of like the whole sexual harassment thing, It's only important if it helps Democrats.

"Wa Pa" is my spellchecks version of WaPo.

"Something about the photo looked off to me. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, and then I finally realized it was the white trim. Most of my Wisconsin friends have stained trim and textured drywall--even in new builds."

It's not drywall.

The house (the front part) was built in 1923.

The back of the house (which is like a completely different house) is modern, built circa 1970 and massively renovated in the 1990s.

Interesting... A long list, mostly available through open source.

which has been verified by CIA records captured using a Marine assault on Langley.

And there it is. Traditionalguy, I'm not saying don't drink the turpentine, I'm saying you have to know when to stop. Marine assault? Was this in the news? Does posse comitatus mean anything to you?

It's very simple Tim.
Back when he was posting as Shiloh I busted him by referring to his jabber as, well, jabber. So he sought to take the power out of that word, or to seize upon its power, by using it himself ten thousand times a day. Kind of like the queers reclaiming queer. Just more leftist claptrap agitprop Alinsky technique.
