"At least six people were killed when a man drove a pickup truck as many as 20 blocks down a bike path next to the Hudson River in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon..."

"... before he jumped out with fake guns and was shot by police officers, the authorities said. The police did not immediately call it a terrorist attack. But two law enforcement officials said that after the attacker got out of the truck, he was heard yelling, 'Allahu Akbar.'"

The NYT reports.

TV and press conference allowed NYPD chief, DeBlasio and Cuomo to feel the pain, stand strong against terror and brag about increased vigilance and outreach to truck rental companies which helped to do exactly nothing to prevent this slaughter. They were careful not to describe the murderer or what he said on exiting the truck, but assured us that the attacker, while gut-shot by an alert cop, is being cared for at a local hospital along with the 11 survivors whom he just maimed.

ISIS' new truck jihad program reflects the same evil ingenuity as the original 9/11 attacks which took place only blocks away from this carnage. DeBlasio seemed to brag about that: that New York is a success story that naturally attracts these losers. IMHO he has a tin ear.

New York pedestrians may want to practice putting rounds through truck windshields. It's hard to learn on the spot.

I watched the NYPD/mayor/governor/FBI/NY state police conference. Yes, it was a terror attack. Believed to be lone wolf. Heightened security tonight, and for the Halloween parade.

It was interesting that the police had previously been around twice to all truck rental places to discuss security and what they should look for to prevent these types of attacks. How was that supposed to work? You can't do the obvious risk mitigation without getting sued. Anyway, I am sorry for Home Depot, which will now doubtless get sued for renting the truck.

Sorry for the victims. Hope the eight dead don't include the two kids on the school bus. WTH.

Now, don't get me wrong. I have a good relationship with Juan. He's helped around the house, done some cooking, helped me clean the place up. So it isn't ALL bad with Juan.

Just...very annoying at times. And it's IS my house.

BUT...there are a lot more people than Juan out there with worse intentions.

Now anyone sensible would suggest to me to FIX MY FUCKING LOCK, so that back door isn't a huge gateway into my house, where my family lives.

They would be correct.

But Democrats seem to be against fixing locks.

It isn't that Trump isn't trying to fix things.

It is that people like you are against fixing things, like a nagging wife who screams that a new lock is too expensive when she'd rather spend that money on a present for her worthless brother Roger.

There is a reason people don't trust Democrats any more. Because they are against sense and freedom (unless it is freedom to enter the U.S.)

Another 23 percent of voters said they “somewhat support” the guidelines.

The partial ban, which took effect on Thursday, was most strongly supported by Trump’s fellow Republicans, 83 percent of whom approved. Even among Democratic voters, only 46 percent said they were opposed.

Forty-one percent of Democrats said they support it, and the remaining 13 percent said they “don’t know.”

It isn't that Trump isn't trying (wildly popular) things to fix AMERICAN problems. It is that ideologues on the Left oppose him for reasons so spurious and laughable that if one held the same Democrat policies about Ebola Outbreaks in the Congo as they do about Muslims, every medical health professional in the country would scream bloody murder at their idiocy!

Robert Cook said...

"Was the Chinese Exclusion Act unconstitutional?"

I don't know and can't answer at length now...I'm tired and my eyes are killing me. It had to do with limits on immigrants of a certain race. It seems unconstitutional on its face, but that doesn't mean it was. I'd have to learn more about it and think about it. However, "banning Muslims" is something else again. Muslims are not a race. It is a religious creed, held by many races and many nationalities. The First Amendment forbids the repression of a religion or forbidding members of a creed to live and practice their creed in this country. So, banning Muslims is unconstitutional, and thus, illegal.

Religious creed? Or political system? Is there any other religion that holds as its basic tenet violent world conquest? If you can't separate the "religious" belief from the underlying political philosophy which one do you base your immigration policies on? Use some common sense. Since it is not a religious ban anyway the point is moot. It's amazing how if you repeat a lie often enough some people will accept it as truth.

Most if not all of these types of suicide killings will continue to take place in metropolitan areas, which tend to be Democratic enclaves. Isn't against their own self interests to fight against reforms that would lessen the threat to the areas they inhabit? Use some common sense please.

How would banning Muslims from immigrating to the US amount to "respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Does the practice of Islam require entry into the US?

I understand there has been legislation concerning discrimination in immigration, but that is extra-Constitutional, not inherent in the 1st Amendment. The Constitution limits government power over residents of the United States, not over anyone in the world who would like to come here.

That says nothing about whether non-citizen Muslims must be admitted to the country. As a fairly non-controversial (I think!) hypothetical let's say we decide to admit Iranian Bahá'í and Zoroastrians because they are persecuted at home. Does that mean we have to admint Iranian Muslims as well?

OK, Robert Cook - admit it, you're an investment banker at Citi, a hardcore capitalist and your blog entire persona is a decade long epic troll. Sort of like Blighter, but a lot less funny.

For those not familiar, most of Citi's I-bankers work in their massive TriBeCa building just north of the site of this attack.

Which is illegal and unconstitutional. No wonder you and others admire Trump...you're as ignorant (or contemptuous of) of our Constitution and the protections it guarantees us as Trump is.

Borders are illegal and the constitution protects everyone in the world.

Only Trump supporters would be stupid enough to deny everyone in the world the unalienable right to come to our country.

Robert Cook said...

Ha! I never say anything stupid. What did I say that was anti-American?

Double face palm.

That you don't understand why your attempt wasn't funny tells me a lot about you, Inga. The really hilarious thing is this- I could have used your phrase in my first paragraph and made it funny for you.

You seemed to have missed my "full-auto transmission" point.

Maybe this will help. The terrorist in question attempted to get a bump stock, but settled for a bumper instead.

It was this reported the terrorist entered the US on a "diversity" visa. Diversity visa program? Who knew?

It was also reported Chuck Schumer (D-Idiot), was a sponsor of the program.

Michael K says most shrinks are crazy. I agree.

We know where Michael K got his exposure to psychiatric professionals, and I have a pretty solid Idea where Unknown got his exposure to them too enough to have an opinion on their general mental state.

See, this is why we recommend you don't rely on Vox.

Now THAT was funny.

Inga, who has been screeching about Trump's proposed immigration policies forever, now asks =How did Trump prevent this attack? He didn’t."

Every time you think Inga can't get dumber and meaner she outdoes herself. She demands that Trump let the world in and then demands to know why he didn't stop the scum who is here because Chuckie Schumer made sure of it.

Meaner? Of course it's mean. Inga is willing to have other people be murdered just so she can feel "inclusive." See, that's why I have absolutely no respect for the old hag. It's not just that she's an idiot. There are good-hearted people who are not very bright. It's that she's a cold-blooded bitch who pretends to be "compassionate."

Why not? What makes you think Iranian muslims are any more potentially dangerous than anyone else? Does being a Muslim--from whatever nation or of whatever national or ethnic origin--make someone potentially dangerous, or suffice to bar someone, absent any other criteria, from crossing our borders?

I don't say we should not or cannot place controls on who or how many we allow to cross our borders to visit or live. However, the comment simply said "Ban Muslims." So, does that mean ban Muslims already here? To ban American Muslims from practicing their religion? If it only applies to immigrants or foreign visitors, does it mean we place a blanket ban on entry to the US to any and all persons from any nation who are Muslims?

This is simply making xenophobia the law of the land.

The way we're going, we'll soon be a garrison state.

Loosely and inaccurately.

If not radicalized already a certain amount of Muslim immigrants and their offspring are going to “get” religion, sort of like our “born again” Christians. The basic problem, which is also a basic difference, is that their religion, Islam, preaches a reward for dealing death to the infidels. The “infidels” being us Americans and our children.

I say that until Islam reforms itself out of the murderous condition it has been in since its inception that America should keep Muslims from entering our country. Islam should first have to prove that Islam is accepting of freedom and tolerance in its own intolerant hellholes before we allow them to make America a hellhole.

I have to ask our house liberals how many more attacks are they willing to endure before we have Common Sense Immigration policy now? That's great NYC shows resilience as they have a moment of silence or the mayor wears a black arm band for a week to show his solidarity. But doesn't being a hapless victim get old after a while? There is nothing noble in that.

One (idealistic) man's xenophobia is another (realistic) man's common sense.

The way we're going, we'll soon be a garrison state.

Nations ideologically devoted to whatever kind of "purity" tend to become police states. Nations ideologically devoted to "diversity", as an end in itself and damn the consequences, become police states. The growth of the surveillance/police state in the modern West is most definitely correlated with increase in "diversity"; every Western nation that lets in a critical mass of Muslims has developed a "Muslim problem". Gee, it's almost as if policy based on mindless ideological devotion instead of prudence and experience ends in the surveillance state getting all up in everyone's grill.

But just keep throwing brain-dead "-phobe" epithets around and repeating to yourself that "this is all exactly like the Italians in 1900 and will turn out exactly the same!" Beats thinking.

Obviously, our interlocutor's point of view depends on his not thinking, but he also lacks the integrity to acknowledge that innocent people will die when his intentionally-ignorant policy preferences are enacted.

Exactly. And guess what, readers, It’s also true that every nation that avoids Muslim immigration also avoids Islamic terrorism. Coincidence?

Fascism and "garrison state" status is always descending on the US but somehow always lands in Robert Cooks beloved leftist controlled nations.

This NYC terrorist sponsored 23 families to come to the US. I guess diversity really is our strength.

The "posse commitatus" act and the 2nd amendment will prevent that.
