I blame the influence of K-pop. Using hand gestures to make heart shapes (i.e. finger hearts) in pictures and towards fans is ubiquitous in that subculture.

People are writing about people squishing their boobs into hearts for reasons we don’t entirely understand.

Oh, wait! The reason is to sell advertising.

A determined person could do this with a scrotum.

I like boobs, but this is unattractive.

It's regular women doing this Comrade, not the filthy Capitalists.

As has been said, this is a fad that started in the Far East and it took off because they start so few fads considering their population. Some Western women are now joining it to keep it going.

When I first read the headline, I expected an article about the tortuous shaping of women's cleavage by modern bras.

Then Cupid shoots his, uh, "arrow". I guess some women take this literally.

"People" are doing this? Any particular subset of "people", by any chance? Say, female "people"? Or would it be genderist to even ask that?
