"Sir Ivan said he never heard Goldstone say anything political, but 'it would surprise me if he was a strong Trump advocate."

"He reiterated that, 'I think he strictly did it for social purposes, and to do somebody a favor.' Goldstone ― who once posted a photo of himself wearing a gold hat emblazoned with the word 'CUNTY,' which he promised is 'very me' ― did seem to celebrate Trump’s victory in November. He posted hourly updates on state-by-state results to Facebook throughout the evening of Election Day, then posted a link to a 2013 music video in which Trump appeared with Emin Agalarov.... Shortly after Trump’s win, Goldstone ― who once said graffiti declaring 'pussy not war' represents 'My sentiments entirely !!!' ― posted a photo of himself in a 'Russia' T-shirt with the caption, 'hedging bets'...."

From "The Guy Who Set Up The Trump Jr.-Russia Meeting Is The Best New Character In ‘2017’/In April, Rob Goldstone declared himself 'in a serious relationship with Bread'" in HuffPo.

Scott Adams is right, they really did get this guy from central casting to play the slimey, british, publicist. And everyone is taking his account at 100% face value. Riiiight.

Yeah, a guy like this would certainly be on first name basis with the Crown Prosecutor of All the Russias. Probably any number of Nigerian Crown Princes too. Always trust content from Rob Goldstone.

He should have known what we were going to accuse him of.

Goldstone’s involvement with the Russia incident was probably “very benign and innocent,” Sir Ivan speculated. “It was probably strictly do somebody a favor, because he’s a nice guy. ... I’m sure he was doing nothing more than networking, I doubt there was an ounce of political intrigue involved that he would have been aware of. If anything, maybe he thought he might get a plum account as the publicist for the Miss World pageant or something.”

Seems like a overly eager dimwit with some deep insecurities... in short the perfect dupe.

"To put a kind of broader perspective on this, try to imagine a United States president..."

Imagine? We already had Clinton, and they were wanting a second Clinton elected. Of course, Clinton didn't just look the other way. He actively pardoned tax frauds who had already been convicted. If it didn't matter for the Clintons, why does lesser more vague charges matter for Trump?

The answer is, of course, it doesn't matter to anyone, it's just a way to avoid having real debates on substantive issues and having to convince people of policy positions. It's tabloid politics. Shame!

Sunsong quotes:

Simple prudence should have prevented them from getting entangled with such a person, and not just for political reasons. The potential for blackmail or violence were too high to be acceptable to a rational person.

And yet so far I have not seen anyone posit that the motive for any putative Russian opposition to Hillary's election was the "stick" of a "carrot and stick" blackmail scheme involving US uranium, Russian donations to the Clinton Foundations and speaking fees.

Makes a hell of a lot more sense than Russians being FOR the election of Trump and his policies.

Was or wasn't?

everyone is taking his [Goldstone] account at 100% face value

It's a he said, she said, He said story. He wins.

Still, no crime. No betrayal of Americans, allies, and friends, methods, knowledge, or people. Nothing uniquely untoward. As it turns out, fifty shades shy of Democratic and journolistic standards of politicking. Trump Jr wins, with a unique display of transparency.

If someone wrote a novel with this cast of characters everyone would say it's way too implausible.

Freedom of Speech vs Freedom of Press.

Trump Jr wins, with a unique display of transparency... another baby trial that exposed witches (and warlocks) in the Fourth Estate.

Mythical journolistic standards of integrity hurt most.

Marc Rich. That was a pretty large 'tax heist' and Eric Holder wrote it up and Bill Clinton signed it.

been bought, as Denise Rich had given more than $1 million[25] to Clinton's political party (the Democratic Party), including more than $100,000 to the Senate campaign of the president's wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and $450,000 to the Clinton Library foundation during Clinton's time in office.[21] - Wikipedia

Different because reasons.

I love the fact that the entire "Russia collusion" narrative hangs on this Goldstone fellow's say-so. We're supposed to believe he had the inside scoop on Kremlin policy...despite the fact that he somehow thinks Russia's a monarchy. Seems legit.

1983 Rich and partner Pincus Green were indicted on 65 criminal counts, including income tax evasion, wire fraud, racketeering, and trading with Iran during the oil embargo (at a time when Iranian revolutionaries were still holding American citizens hostage).[7][17] The charges would have led to a sentence of more than 300 years in prison had Rich been convicted on all counts.[17] The indictment was filed by then-U.S. Federal Prosecutor (and future mayor of New York City) Rudolph Giuliani. At the time it was the biggest tax evasion case in U.S. history.[18]

Actual involvement with tax heist, Hillary.

Guilty by remote association, Trump.

Are we really to believe that the outrage over this meeting is sincere?

The consensus in the JOM comments is that the Dems set this up so Goldstone's email would be flagged by the NSA, enabling a FISA warrant to surveil the Trump campaign communications. Admiral Rogers may have told Trump about it after the election. Makes as much sense as anything.

Okay. I'm picturing Hillary - after she got her cut, of course. And I'm picturing Seth Rich. Next.

What does this have to do with the Trump, Jr, meeting?

I would totally believe anything this guy said in an email, about how high level his information was and about how it was a token of support by all of Russia, plus his clients, of course, and how whoever was going to meet with me was really a Russian Government Lawyer.

So if I said, "If this is what you say it is, I love it . . ." The "If" would internally be all caps, boldface, underlined, but I'd be too polite to tell him that. My comments would unequivocally show how much I absolutely trusted in every syllable of his email.

The missing pieces of evidence are the e-mails between Goldstone and the Agalarovs.

I am willing at this point to believe Ms. Veselnitskaya's assertion that she didn't know Trump Jr.'s expectations about the meeting. Of all the theories, the one that makes the most sense in explaining this meeting about Clinton Dirt that contained no Clinton Dirt is that both parties to the meeting were lied to, I just don't know who did the lying, Goldstone or the Agalarovs.

Jaq said...

Somebody who knew she was under surveillance inviegled her into Trump's orbit. Nah! Spies wouldn't do that!

Yes, Reset Hillary and Flexible Barack are outshone by Putin at every turn. The Russians gets a quarter of our uranium with Hillary's approval after a Kremlin connected bank pays Billy a half mil for two speeches. Obama's energy policies supported by Hill make russia king of Eastern Europe's energy supply.

Yet the Dems and their pimps in the media demand we believe that rather than relish a Hillary rematch, Putin supports Trump's bid for POTUS.

Never mind that Trump is a u-u-ge presence, promises missiles for Poland and to expand the U.S. military, doesn't need Russian graft and promises U.S. energy to Eastern Europe, Putin want Trump, not Crooked Hillary, in the White House.

Makes perfect sense if you are Democrat lunatic.

Wow my leftie friends on Facebook are gradually coming to grips with the fact that this is like the 10th consecutive blockbuster "revelation" that will finally get trump, does not look like it will bear fruit. I really thought they were going to ride this liberal sugar high for at least a week but they are already conceding this is a distraction that allows trump to move ahead with his agenda unopposed.

He was certainly stupid to take a meeting with a lawyer who was so close to the Democrats.

it was the Obama Justice Department that enabled the newest and most intriguing figure in the Russia-Trump investigation to enter the country without a visa.

Later, a series of events between an intermediary for the attorney and the Trump campaign ultimately led to the controversy surrounding the president's eldest son.

Just five days after meeting in June 2016 at Trump Tower with Donald Trump Jr., presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner and then Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, Moscow attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya showed up in Washington in the front row of a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Russia policy, video footage of the hearing shows.
