Saturday evening Trump tweetstorm — "My use of social media is not Presidential - it’s MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL."

In chronological order:
The FAKE & FRAUDULENT NEWS MEDIA is working hard to convince Republicans and others I should not use social media - but remember, I won....

....the 2016 election with interviews, speeches and social media. I had to beat #FakeNews, and did. We will continue to WIN!

My use of social media is not Presidential - it’s MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL. Make America Great Again!

I am thinking about changing the name #FakeNews CNN to #FraudNewsCNN!

Damnit Meade! Would you please explain to your wife that we are STILL waiting on that rush delivery of Fainting Couches? She understands we are OUT, yes? And that she is TRIGGERING our resident liberals into violent episodes of Pearl Clutching and Righteous Posing?

They ALWAYS lock their knees. And then it's just a matter of time - meltdown and then the long fall to Fainting Couch. My back hurts moving bodies out.

Just try to get her to take it easy for awhile. At least till that truck gets here.

Poor CNN. They are going into Post Trump Stress Disorder, and it is getting worse as Twittered IEDs now are going off 6 times a day ...like rockets red glare and bombs going off on the air.

I would expect CNN to offer a truce, but if they did, the Clinton/Obama forces would kill one of them as a message. It would be like the IRA leaders agreeing to a Treaty with the English in 1921 and Sadat agreeing to a Treaty with Israel. They signed their own death warrants when they signed the treaty.

So far DJT is charged with using Twitter and watching Big Screen TV. More special Prosecutors will have to be appointed.

Here's what I don't get.

If you turn on these news channels, you get almost non stop criticism and vitriol aimed at this president.

Unlike the last 8 years where you got praise and adoration for the past 8 years with a pinch of criticism every so often to continue pretending to be real news.

And now the part I don't get.

Which of those two scenarios would you see under a tyrant and dictator like Hitler?

Would you see a news media free to criticize and blast the President as all sorts of evil, or would you see a media that's always complimentary and sucking up?

rcocean said...

The whole concept of "Presidential" is now BS and has been for 20 years.

You can't demand a President be "dignified" and "above it all" while Congressman and TV newsmen and entertainers are calling the POTUS a "Cocksucker" "Crazy" and "a traitor"

Somehow Trump is supposed to "respect the office" while no one else does.

Mr. Hillary Clinton was getting lewinskies in Oval Office, when did the MSM get upset about that? When was Obama ever "Presidential"?

Bush-II was called Chimpy McHitler and he was "above it all". So where did that get him or us?

Donald Trump could shoot CNN in the head in the middle of Times Square and use the NYT to beat it to death, then rip off both their heads and crap in their windpipes just to make sure. And he would still have to pay $5 for a cup of coffee when he went to the shop across the street from where he did it.

I find absurd it to go on-line and see some "Story" from the New York Times or Wapo. Headline: "Trump says X".

Then you read the 500 word article, loaded with all kinds of anti-trump "analysis" and find out its all based on a Trump Tweet.

Now, I've been able to read between the lines and figure out that these articles are based on a Trump tweet. So, I ignore the article and read the tweet. No gatekeepers - thank you very much.

The interesting thing is that he is more right than wrong and he seems at this point to have the MSM "out on their feet" - goes with the glass jaw metaphor. Certainly for four years this is going to be what "Presidential" is. I suspect that by the end of the year we will all be hooked on it and some of us will even appreciate that the President wants to communicate with us.

Straight out of the fever swamps of deepest Trumpism.

The presumption is that Sen. Dick Durbin is denying his emails and office correspondence to law enforcement. That's the way that the above-quoted post reads. And it isn't true. Durbin's office has provided all of to the U.S. Capitol Police. It's nuts to think that the FBI needs to investigate Durbin, when he has cooperated in providing the emails you're talking about.

But here is what I don't get, Chuck. You know the only reason the Leftists want Trump's tax returns is so they can perform a witch hunt and impeach your President over Something Mumble Something.

You should pick up The Last Lion vol2 by William Manchester. Great work on Churchill and WW2. For instance, did you know that even though we allied with the Soviet Union to destroy Hitler, we didn't actually help them enslave Eastern Europe.

It is all about evading the middlemen of the media. This is the reason for the ferocious opposition his tweets engender, and I still stand by my prediction- Twitter will ban him before the end of the year under pressure from the Left.

A good rule of thumb is this- always do the opposite of what your enemies say you should be doing. Sure, you might once in a while get fooled by clever reverse psychology, but when you have enemies as dumb as Trump's enemies, it is a pretty safe strategy. I think he could use the social media better, but who am I to give him advice- he actually won a vote, and I haven't.

Earlier Trump called Mika "low IQ." This claim is believable. But "dumb as a rock" seems to be going too far. A rock would have an IQ of zero, right? It seems inconceivable that Mika has an IQ of zero.

But maybe I'm wrong about a rock's IQ. Perhaps it could be two or three. For instance, if you asked the rock an IQ question then dropped it on a paper with four choices, ABCD, the rock might land on the correct choice occasionally. If the test was conducted this way, the rock would probably score a seven or eight. Now it seems much more believeable.

Therefore, I rate Trump's claim Mostly True.

This whole dynamic is going to be interesting. A lot of these tech companies are run by leftist techies. And the political philosophy of much of Silicon, Valley, etc, is tech leftist - a mixture of statism and libertarianism. The big problem though with going to war with Trump is that they are going to war with Trump supporters. And what they are ultimately going to understand is that there is more money in Trump America than in anti-Trump America. Or, maybe more accurately, there is more money to be made there. That is due to the demographics. The money on the left is very concentrated - a relatively small number of rich and very rich funding the politics, and a lot of poor people providing the votes. Trump America has the numbers with the better ability to spend money. For example, a rich tech millionaire may be able to quasi-legally spend 10x, maybe 100x, funding leftist politicians, but isn't likely to spend nearly that much more on Internet ad driven purchases. Much of the Internet is funded indirectly through buying things. All those ad supported apps, etc (from Google on down) depend on it. The dumber companies are going to let themselves be politicized by the anti-Trump left, and, ultimately a large portion of their American audience is going to vote with their feet. The smart ones are going to figure this out before it can bite them in the rear end. For a lot of these companies, their products, per se, aren't all that unique. Rather, what makes them valuable is the network effect of being the biggest in their niche. Twitter, Facebook, and even Google and Amazon, aren't unique, just big because they have the market and, thus, get the bulk of the new business. I have a Facebook account because I need it to communicate with others who do, etc. And that is what they are putting at risk by taking sides.

Bruce Hayden said...

Another reason that these companies should think twice about crossing Trump is that the federal apparatus now reports to him. Take one example - a lot of these big tech companies, from Google, down through Amazon, Twitter, Facebook, etc, are quasi-monopolies as a result of the network effects mentioned above. The DoJ has an antitrust section, and it is essentially up to Trump and his AG to determine where they spend their time and efforts. Do these companies want the DoJ antitrust people second guessing every acquisition they make (esp in an industry that innovates through acquisition)? Or reviewing every clause that they put in their click wrap EULAs? What patent policy should the country be pursuing? The Obama Administration pursued one aimed at weakening patents and patent law, at the behest of these companies, who so often appropriate and then commercialize technology of others.

The antitrust aspect should not be underestimated. At one point in our history, both IBM and AT&T were under the antitrust investigation. One was ultimately broken up (AT&T). The other escaped essentially unscathed (IBM). One of the big differences was that there was a new Administration, and IBM managed to get its guy to head the DoJ antitrust section there, which very quickly dismissed their suit against IBM, but not AT&T. As IBM did the USPTO under Obama, in order to get the AIA first-to-file patent system enacted (followed by Google, who put their gal in next, in order to weaken patent enforcement).

Part of the problem is that a lot of these companies took political sides when Obama was in office. It seemed like a safe bet, with the guaranteed permanent Dem ruling party, thanks to their brilliant strategy of recruiting blacks, Hispanics, illegals, and Millenuals. Doors in the federal govt that they spent tens and hundreds of millions of dollars pushing open, are now going to be slammed in their faces. And esp if they can be seen as part of the "resistance".

Bruce Hayden said...

"If Mika challenged him, first round knockout"

As I noted in an earlier thread, Dumb as a Rock Mika has already been knocked out. Dead woman walking. She just probably doesn't know it yet. She and her fiancé, Crazy Joe, didn't lay a hand on Trump, but by attaching that nickname, along with the vision of her bleeding face to her, Trump very likely guaranteed that her career was on its way down. Maybe not immediately, because of leftist sympathy support. But their support will shortly move to other Trump victims, and every time she opens her mouth henceforth, much of America will marvel how someone so dumb can be on TV. Maybe unfair - there are plenty of people on TV who probably routinely say things equally inane, but she is the one everyone is going to wonder about her IQ every time she opens her mouth.

And, yes, it wasn't very nice, nor very sporting to have done that to her. Tough. She is well paid, and took sides here, at a time when Trump is making examples of those who try to do him dirty.

Unlike young whippersnappers like Althouse and Meade, I can remember Jimmy Carter in 1976 proposing to "go over the heads" of the press and Congress to take his case for legislation directly to the people. He failed, and I'm tempted to add "as he did in so many other things," but the reality is that the technology wasn't there. In the 1930s radio let FDR speak directly to the people, but by 1952 people were watching TV more than they listened to the radio. So in between FDR and Trump presidents found themselves constrained to go through the big TV news outlets to talk to the people, and they could and do put their own spin on whatever the President said. Twitter today lets Trump speak directly to the people once more, and the big TV outlets don't like it one bit. Me, I'd be glad to see all of them, Fox News as well as CNN and CBS News and MSNBC, go bankrupt. Wait until Mike lots-of-consonants finds out what it's like to work for a living as a hairdresser or bedpan-emptier.

Like art and porn, we'll know it when we see it.

No identification of any legal imperative for Durbin to release them.

Besides the fact that Hodgkinson attempted to murder Durbin's political opponents, you mean?

And no good distinction drawn, between Trump's failure to release copies of his tax returns, while the Trumpkins whine about Durbin's emails.

Here's a distinction: the sole purpose of releasing Trump's tax returns is to titillate financial illiterates. The purpose of looking at correspondence between Durbin's office and Hodgkinson is to determine whether Durbin's office deliberately encouraged Hodgkinson in his activities.

May I ask why you care so much about Dick Durbin, who is, after all, one of the most loathsome figures on Capitol HIll? Do you work for him?

As for Trump's tax returns, I hope if they ever come out it shows him making milions and paying nothing -- no better impetus for tax reform could possibly exist.

Which brings us back to the insulting commenter "Fen" who suggested that Durbin be investigated by the FBI for obstruction of justice. For what, exactly? For not turning over his office emails to InfoWars, after providing them to law enforcement?

I don't. I have written elsewhere on this blog that Dick Durbin is one of the most effectively evil Democrats in the Senate. I recall Durbin's office being at the center of the Miguel Estrada judicial nomination battle.

I care less than nothing, for Durbin.

But what I care more about right now than Durbin (who is now just the Minority Whip) is Trump and his supporters. I am looking for ways -- the best and clearest and most purely defensible ways -- to ridicule the InfoWars/Hannity/Trump wing of politics.

And it so often happens here in these comments pages at Althouse. I put out some hard questions or some unanswerable criticism of Trump, and the responding attack on me is that I am a Democrat or a liberal or a moby or a leftwing plant. With no proof. Naturally, since there is no such proof.

And now we have just done that thing that Althouse doesn't want her commenters to do, which is to take the commenting away from issues and steer it into backwaters of personal back-and-forth name calling.

Don't blame me, Professor Althouse. I have named for you the commenters who do this repeatedly.

Republicans who, without any of Trump's insane blather, have won re-election after the Republican wave of 2010. In many cases, these are Republicans who have been winning in deep-purple states and localities, by running against, or at least a long way away from, Trump. Pre-dating any Trump phenomenon. Kasich in Ohio. Snyder in Michigan. Walker in Wisconsin. Rauner in Illinois. Toomey in Pennsylvania. Portman in Ohio.

Oh and if you question Durbin you are in the infowars wing of the party. Because real lifelong republicans don't say mean things about democrats.

Oh, bullshit. I'd love for somebody to say something mean about Dick Durbin, when it has meaning and serious backing.

Where I draw the line is with assclowns like the insulting/threatening "Fen" going off on some conspiracy theory that, literally, there may have been a conspiracy or some encouragement to violence on the part of Senator Dick Durbin to shoot Republican members of Congress.

We Republicans have important fights to wage. And the Trump wing is just too fucking stupid to be entrusted with making those arguments. Trump proves it almost every day.

Example; his Election Integrity Commission might be a lot farther ahead of the game now, if Trump would just shut up and stay out of the issue. Starting from about seven months ago.

InfoWars? Wtf? I've never read InfoWars, you're the one who brought them up.

2) Sen Dick Durbin (D) has a history of spouting off violent rhetoric at my

3) Sen Dick Durbin (D) refuses to make those emails public

I want to know what Sen Dick Durbin (D) wrote to the assassin (D) because based on his history, I suspect Sen Dick Durbin (D) wrote something close to "who will rid me of these meddlesome priests" and is covering it up.

Why is that so hard for you to understand, Chuck?

It would amaze me if he did not at least indirectly cheer on the violence of the shooter.

It is no wonder that LLRs find him dreamy.

Chuck said...

Fen, you jackass. You started this by proposing that Durbin had somehow inspired the attack, or knew about it in advance and condoned it, or encouraged it. You suggested that Durbin was withholding evidence and that the FBI should investigate him for obstruction of justice or some damned thing.

I am presuming that until I posted the information, you had no clue that Durbin had already turned over all of the materials and information to the U.S. Capitol Police.

I further presume that the reason that you did not know that, but knew only that Durbin was somehow refusing to "provide" the emails, is because of the media you consume (bottom-feeding pro-Trump outlets) and the uncritical way that you consume your chosen media.

There is nothing that is hard for me to understand. I want to tell you how much I care about what sort of information you might desire; it is exactly as much as Donald Trump cares, about how much I and about 150,000,000 other Americans want to see his tax returns.

Why don't you summarize all of the documentary evidence so far that gives any credence to any notion that Dick Durbin "incited" the Arlington shooting(s).

Keep going with this. I want to rub your nose in it.

Yes, a fellow who was giddy over the fake russian dossier and is head over heels in love with the fake accusation of collusion just wrote that. Without irony.

Big Mike said...

@Chuck, and what if the smoking gun buried in the Durban Emails is a message from Hodgkinson describing what he planned to do, and Durban never passed along a warning to the Capitol Police or to Durbin's GOP colleagues? What then? You're trying to build a straw man and it isn't anything like big enough to hide you.

Fen said...

Chuck: "You started this by presuming Durbin blah blah- "

I started it because Durbin refused to make public his conversations with a democrat constituent who attempted the mass assassination of 20 Republican Congressmen.

We know the shooter's motive was to change the balance of power on Congress so the Democrats could impeach Trump. He (wrongly) thought his party could pick up enough seats through special elections.

Did the assassin and Sen Dick Durbin discuss this in their emails? No? Okay then voluntarily release those conversations to the public. This was a national tradegy. What is Durbin hiding?

I think it's because Sen Durbin (D) ran his mouth and used some violent rhetoric that is going to be viewed very poorly in hindsight.

What are you afraid of, Chuck? It's not like you are a Democrat who's fake civility narrative is going to be ruined when we discover Sen Durbin (D) asked "will no one rid me of these meddlesome priestz?"

Right, Chuck?

Fen said...

Chuck: "why don't you summarize all the documentary evidence that implicates Sen Durbin agitated or incited the shooter via their email correspondence"

I will, as soon as I read those emails.

.... can you not see how dumb your defense is?

Chuck said...

I am not afraid of anything. I am not presuming anything.

You, Fen, made the outlandish and evidence-free presumption that Durbin had something to hide. Actually, it was worse than that, you presumed that Durbin was hiding evidence, even from law enforcement. Now, you must realize you were wrong about that but you won't even confess that much.

I'd personally like to see the Durbin emails. My presupposition is that Durbin probably never saw, and never replied to, any of them. That staffers deal exclusively with nutty constituent emails. But no matter what, I'd like to see them.

Like I'd like to see Trump's tax returns.

The difference between you and me is that I'd never be so reckless and shit-stupid to make the sorts of allegations that you have made on this page.

Fen said...

"150 million people want to see Trump's tax returns"

LOL. I doubt you could find 1 million people who want to see Trump's tax returns. But let's revist your priorities:

1. Witch hunt of Trump's tax returns - ELEVENTY TO INFINITY!

2. Attemped mass murder of Republican Congressmen - no biggie

Fen said...

Chuck: "evidence free presumption that Durbin has something to hide"

It's a reasonable assumption. Based on the fact that Sen Durbin (D) has refused to release what should be innocuous correspondence to the public.

Fen said...

And gosh, for a life-long Republican, you sure seem invested in spinning excuses for a Democrat Senator who refers to our troops as "nazi".

Again, how odd.

It smells like a jackass, it brays like a jackass, it attacks with the other jackasses, it goes to the mat defending other jackasses over the bodies of shot elephants. But it says it's really an elephant.

So. Weird. I can't put my finger on it but something just feels... off about him. I wonder what it could be?

Fen said...

Chuck: "Fuck off. Jackass. I'm going to rub your nose in it"

Don't forget to include those delightful bits in your daily email whine to Althouse.

And try not to be so god damn BORING. Geez. Insult all you want but at least he creative and entertaining.

Chuck said...

Fen, some polling found that 64% of Republicans wanted Trump to release his returns. Every poll has found large majorities across party lines wanting Trump to release his taxes.

What has he got to hide? Why not release them? Isn't it reasonable to presume that Trump is hiding something? Why shouldn't we know, if Trump has taken foreign loans? What if he owes very large loans? What if he has other financial conflicts? How do we know any of that, if Trump won't release them?

It shouldn't be any defense to Durbin, that people might misinterpret his emails, right? It shouldn't be any defense to Trump's releasing his tax returns that people might misinterpret them or use them to pick on Trump.

I am not trying to defend Durbin. How many times do I have to say that I'd like to see Durbin's emails. If they could be FOIA'ed, I'd expect that somebody would do it, and I'd like to see them published.

So I am not defending Durbin or supporting him. I AM USING DURBIN, TO COUNTERATTACK YOU. You brought up Durbin as a subject. You jumped the shark. You presumed that Durbin was hiding evidence from authorities. Wrong! I just like to exploit opportunities like this to portray Trump supporters as the shit-for-brains morons that they are.

So, tax returns that the IRS has every reason to inspect carefully and yet Trump is not facing IRS sanction. And that is a big deal somehow?

But a dead assassin's E-mails should remain private on the word of a politician?

I'm not following that thread. I understand the prurient interest in seeing a rich man's tax returns. I also understand slowing to observe an accident.

Birkel:

Trump's tax returns are, by Trump's own account, being audited by the IRS. And he won't voluntarily make them public. No one can legally force Trump to make them public. They aren't subject to FOIA or the Federal Records Act.

Durbin's office emails are, by Durbin's own account, being inspected by the U.S. Capitol Police (and perhaps others, like the FBI, or ATF; they were turned over to the Capitol Police and possibly shared, I don't know). No one can legally force Durbin to make them public. They aren't subject to FOIA. They aren't subject to FOIA or the Federal Records Act.

See why this comparison is so obvious, and so unavoidable?

Jeeze, Chuck. The emails are only non-FOIA-able because Congress, in its manifest corruption, has exempted itself from the law. If Durbin isn't concerned about how bad the correspondence with his whack-job constituent will make him look, he can release the emails to the public any time. As for Trump's taxes, I couldn't care less about them. He's under no obligation to help you never-Trumpers and Democrats (but I repeat myself) with your little fishing expeditions.
