Tucson sunsets are spectacular. As are the night skies. It is a "dark city" because of the Kitt Peak Observatory and no street lights except at major intersections. It can be an adventure to drive at night. But the night sky is worth the trouble,

Here's a sad tale with a happy ending:

"BURLINGTON, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – A court date Friday for a Harwinton woman accused of trying to hit a police officer with her car Thursday in Burlington.

State police say 58-year-old Eileen Pierce tried to hit an officer directing traffic at a tree-trimming site on Route 69– allegedly driving her Subaru wagon directly at him, yelling out the window, and shaking her fist. The officer quickly got out of the way, and police say Pierce narrowly missed hitting a tree crew.

When Pierce was pulled over at the Burlington-Bristol line, troopers say she rambled for several minutes, saying she was upset with police and that officers are being murdered because they tend to abuse people’s rights — noting she was angry that Donald Trump is president.

Pierce was arrested on charges of second-degree attempted assault with a motor vehicle, first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and failure to drive in the proper lane in a construction zone.

She was held overnight on $5,000 surety bond for arraignment in Bristol Superior Court."

She sounds no crazier than our leftist trolls. The Subaru is a nice touch - if I could bet on this site I would wager that she has "Coexist" and "Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History" stickers on the bumper.

Will Trump order this judge's order to be ignored? Will he risk being an n contempt of court?

http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/federal-judge-in-seattle-halts-trumps-immigration-order/

"A federal judge in Seattle has ordered a halt to enforcement of President Trump’s controversial travel ban on citizens from seven predominantly Muslim nations.

U.S. District Judge James Robart ruled in favor Friday of Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson, who sued to invalidate key provisions of Trump’s executive order. That order indefinitely blocks entry to the United States for Syrian refugees and temporarily suspends entry to citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries.

The temporary restraining order is granted on a nationwide basis, Robart said."

At least one Contempt of Court citation has already been filed against Trump. More coming.

http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article130474499.html

At least one contempt of court citation has been filed against President Donald Trump and another is likely to be submitted on Friday, charging that the administration has defied court orders by denying entry to the United States by an untold number of immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries.

The Commonwealth of Virginia filed its contempt motion late Wednesday night in Alexandria federal court. Meanwhile, an attorney who is trying to assist more than 200 Yemenis in gaining entry into this country said Thursday that her office will file a contempt motion of its own on Friday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

“The Trump administration is acting as if he is running a dictatorship,” attorney Julie Ann Goldberg said in a telephone interview from Djibouti, where her clients are being held in transit. “It’s as if he has forgotten there are three branches of government in this country and has totally disregarded any judicial order. He is ignoring them across the country.”

Oh, right. This is going to end well for the courts involved. Just what the country needs -- to have the courts dragged down into the muck as just being political hacks.

Unless there is specific statutory law that can be cited that Trump is violating, this is overreach by the judicial branch into the powers of the executive branch. When you're ass ain't on American soil, it's up to the executive Branch what to do with you. And in matters that the executive Branch considers to be pertaining to national security, that latitude is great indeed.

Just wait. This stuff will all get dismissed.

""Well first of all Bad Lieutenant, that's Whizzer White--college football star before he went to law school."

I remember Whizzer White when he played for the Bears. He may have been going to law school at the time.

Halas was good about that. He let Bill McColl play while he was in medical school.

One of my medical school classmates spent some time with him in his mission in Korea.

Halas had done the same for several other Bear players who aspired to be doctors or dentists. Among them was guard Dan Fortmann, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame who served for many years as team physician of the Rams.

So when the NFL draft approached in 1952, only Halas and the Bears saw fit to use a high choice on McColl. They waited at that, selecting in the third round a player who under normal circumstances would have been a first-rounder. At 6-4 and 230 pounds, McColl was a natural for the newly evolving position of tight end.

I knew Dan Fortmann when I was in practice.

Why are you even harping about the loss of the aircraft? I really don't get it. You're trying to draw some kind of an analogy to Operation Eagle Claw? It just doesn't make any sense. It's a stupid observation. At best.

A helicopter was also lost in the raid on Osama bin Laden. Does that make it a failure? Is that the salient point about Neptune Spear that you remember? I mean, you're just flailing wildly.

In 2006 both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama voted for The Secure Fence Act of 2006.

This federal statute, signed into law by President Bush, explicitly calls for over 700 miles of fencing to be build along the U.S.-Mexican border. Basically one-third of the border is to be walled off.

Trump's executive order to wall off the entire border is based on this statute, supported by both Clinton and Obama.

Here's Jorge Ramos, who is a great journalist, in my limited opinion, for pushing Hillary on this issue.

Saint Croix said...

Kind of bizarre that I found this out after the election!

Saint Croix said...

It will be interesting to see Democrats attack executive orders that go beyond the text of the federal statute. I'm not even sure Trump is going beyond the federal statute.

Not later than 18 months after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall take all actions the Secretary determines necessary and appropriate to achieve and maintain operational control over the entire international land and maritime borders of the United States

I refused to take administrative law while I was in law school, because I think administrative law is unconstitutional. I'm a non-delegation guy! Only Congress can pass laws!

My take on this is that the executive branch--the enforcer-- can do whatever he deems necessary to protect the border. He could, for instance, send the army and marines and navy to enforce the border. And you can't sue and stop it.

On the other hand, any "regulations" that unelected bureaucrats try to pretend are laws that the rest of us have to obey are not, in fact, laws at all. It's not a crime to disobey an order by Homeland Security, because Homeland Security is not a law-making branch of the government.
