"What I have been hearing from sources on both sides of the aisle with regard to this FBI situation is that the more likely impact will be on the down-ballot races that some of the races..."

"Some of the races were already, especially on the Senate side, breaking more for Republicans than in the past and that this new is a reminder to people that they may want a check and balance and that that will help."

Said Dana Bash, the CNN chief political correspondent, on "State of the Union" this morning.

That is, those who want to keep Trump out of the White House but who also fear Hillary Clinton might — especially if they think Hillary is going to win — focus on keeping the Congress Republican in order to put a brake on her... or even — more aggressively — to set up an impeachment.

The the past, the voters in a change Landslide Election go all the way. The GOP will have no problem except where the nasty, slimey ones trashed Trump like Benedict Arnold did George Washington. Which brings up the Speaker of the House.

Even after you explain it, I don't get it. Is this a search for a silver lining?

@traditionalguy, I don't know what a wave election looks like when the voters are unhappy with both parties. If Trump wins I hope Ryan, McConnell, and other top elected officials make their peace with him and work together to fix all the stuff that's been broken over the past eight years.

Yeah, I won't vote for Trump, but I damn straight will check off every Republican down ballot. I expect Hillary to win, but I don't really think it makes any difference, Hillary or Trump. The whole argument is ridiculous. Neither is fit. Trump was put their by the Clinton machine, same as Harry Reid got one more Senate term by picking his Republican opponent in the Nevada primaries.

The same thing happens in Vermont. Democrats often manipulate the outcome of Republican primaries.

Harris Faulkner's trio of "experts"* were all agog at the prospect of a constitutional crisis if Hillary wins the election, but is indicted by a grand jury. Or even if she is not, but it is clear to one and all that she should have been.

Why would you bother to quote some hack at CNN?

If you are going to give us fiction, make it sexy and entertaining.

Not this Winston Smith crap.

The talking points sent out from Clinton World was this scandal is "Baked into the cake." I heard at least a dozen Clintonista use that phrase this morning. Reminded me, "Well, I could have stayed home and baked cookies"..or cake.

Andrea Mitchell was so depressed this morning she binged and ate 2 carrots. Of course, they were quickly purged.

This is weapons grade stupid or mendacious.

Dana Bash is in the direct employ of the DNC and is not a serious source of information. The only thing you will gain from listening to her is you know verbatim what she is told to say by the Clinton campaign.

I don't care whether Hillary or Donny wins, they are both horrible people. What I do care about is gridlock, that is, making sure that whoever is president will be tightly boxed in and unable to do anything too damaging for the next four years. So if Hillary wins, I want the GOP to keep control of the Congress and if Donny wins I want the Dems to gain control of the Senate.

Although media bias is a problem, the far bigger problem is that they are stupid. Political Science textbooks describe the various roles the major media plays---scorekeeper, gatekeeper, watchdog---and in all those roles, the major media has lost significant credibility. Nobody even sees it as improper to hire former campaign flunkies for candidates to report the news on those candidates. Nobody sees it as improper to hire news executives who have relatives on the White House payroll. It should have become obvious to them that they overrate themselves when the Obama White House treats them with contempt despite their favoritism. They deserve it. Since Trump can expect nothing but grief from them, he might very well be able to really marginalize them. Of course, we need the media to fulfill their part of the bargain in which they get their special rights and privileges, but they haven't been keeping their end of the bargain for a long time. They will have no one to blame but themselves for what happens to them from now on.

oddest election.
people buying trump=domesday will be voting for the crookedest felon AND voting republican down-ticket so we have a congress that can promptly impeach her
the monster trump vote (first-timers who've never really voted republican) will be punishing some of the down-ticket republicans who were insufficiently deferential (or even outright nasty clinton-endorsing)

this dana bash line doesn't make any sense to me. it's just desperation - anything to justify a vote for the indefensible irredeemable hillary.

Absolutely! Exceptions, however, must be properly noted. Winston has to remove the names of the Non-persons identified by Donald the Trump - Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorino, Ben Sasse, the writers at National Review, Megyn Kelly and the list goes on and on. Who would ever question Donald Trump's judgement and impeccable character? How about this for sexy?

Odds are still in favor of the GOP at least holding the House, but the Senate doesn't look good. Assuming the "nuclear option" (and let's face it, Schumer will definitely use it, and often) Hillary will get all appointments through unless they're egregious enough to peel off a few Democratic senators. And she won't have to veto much because a lot will be blocked in the Senate.

But the House can provide at least some brake.

Fen said...

No. They will cave.

This isn't about the GOP vs the Dems.

Its about the Political Elites vs their Base.

How will this impact the Presidency? Quick, pivot to the down-ballot races!
