"And so he was really trying to dominate and then literally stalk me around the stage and I would just feel this presence behind me."

Said Hillary Clinton, talking about the last debate to Ellen DeGeneres. She also said: "He was really all wrought up, and you could just sense how much anger he had."

Sexist claptrap, in my opinion, but Trump's response, which starts out okay, ends in what I'm seeing as a rape joke:
“So I’m standing at my podium by my chair. She walks across the room. She’s standing in front of me, right next to me,” Trump claimed.“And the next day I said what did the papers say? They said, ‘he invaded her space,’” he said. “Believe me, the last space that I want to invade is her space.”
IN THE COMMENTS: A lot of people are unable or unwilling to see the innuendo that I see, perhaps because you want to protect Trump. For example I Have Misplaced My Pants says:
I see no evidence that he is referring to Clinton's [I presume Althouse suggests] vagina. Althouse, you have a dirty mind. You do this a lot. Is your mind and your blog--just want to counterbalance!
On the other hand, Unknown says:
Of course he was using double entendre. How dense are you people?
And then there is EDH:
Althouse: "ends in what I'm seeing as a rape joke" ... which I guess is okay if you're a liberal, like Norman Lear?

"Who'd wanna rape you, anyway?"

What's the history of the double entendre, and doesn't it always insinuate sexual liberties? It's a poor wit's joke, so knock Trump for stale taste in humor (or claim he's consciously trying to throw Hillary off her game), but stop with the rape word.

More powerful words from Michelle Obama:

>>>...“I listen to all of this and I feel it so personally, and I'm sure that many of you do, too, particularly the women,” Obama said. “The shameful comments about our bodies, the disrespect of our intelligence. The belief you can do anything to a woman? It is cruel. It's frightening. And the truth is, it hurts. It hurts.”

“So many have worked for so many years against this kind of violence and abuse and disrespect. But here we are in 2016 we're hearing these exact same things every single day on the campaign trail,” she continued. “We are drowning in it. And all of us are doing what women have always done, we're trying to keep our heads above water. Just trying to get through it. Trying to pretend like this doesn't really bother us.”...<<<

>>>..."“Because let's be very clear, strong men, strong men, men who are truly role models, don't need to put down women to make themselves feel powerful,” she said...

...“I know it's a campaign, but this isn't about politics. It's about basic human decency. It's about right and wrong,” she said. “And we cannot endure this or expose our children to this any longer, not for another minute, let alone for four years. Now is the time for all of us to stand up and say, enough is enough. This has got to stop right now.”...<<<

"Presently, she is among the women all over America who’ve fled Donald Trump’s campaign:

"...Get this straight: We don’t need you to stand up for us, YOU needed to stand up for us for YOU. For YOUR dignity. For YOUR reputation. Jeff Sessions says that he wouldn’t “characterize” Trump’s unauthorized groping of women as “assault.”

"Are you kidding me?!

"Others try to rebuke his comments, yet STILL choose to vote for a sexual predator - because let’s be honest, that’s what he is. “What he said is wrong, and the way he treats women is wrong, but it’s not wrong enough for me to not vote for him."

"Thanks, cowards..."

Rape joke? It seems more likely that the joke was that Hillary is just such an unlikable person that no one in their right mind would want to be any closer to Hillary than they have to be. Perhaps Scott Adams is correct, the Hillary campaign and the media have successfully persuaded some that Donald Trump is a sexual predator and criminal and now many can only view him like that.

Bullshit. Bullshit BullFuckingShit on stilts.

'I'm a gentleman': Trump menaces Clinton with imposing presence and brash insults
Read more
By midweek, even before Michelle Obama voiced that thought, the floodgates had opened as a rapidly expanding array of women described various forms of sexual assault they said Trump had inflicted on them – and told their stories, on the record, to the Guardian, the New York Times, Buzzfeed, People magazine, and the Palm Beach Post, among a growing list of publications.

Since Trump thinks the best way to deal with any charges is to counter-attack as viciously as possible, his campaign immediately promised to dredge up more allegations of Bill Clinton’s past sexual misconduct.

But no matter what Bill Clinton has done, he’s not running for president – and nobody has ever accused Hillary Clinton of grabbing the genitals of a stranger or pushing a man up against a wall and shoving her tongue down his mouth. The overwhelming majority of sex crimes are committed by men, and neither Trump nor most of the commentators trying to keep up with the current firestorm seem to understand that that fact alone has transformed this race.

"What Trump is now up against is not only his own actions, but the lived experience of every American woman.

Hillary is 3 weeks out from the election and knows if she can knock off enough votes from women for Trump, even if they don't vote at all, she will win.

This is basic electoral strategy 101. There's nothing fancy here - Trump gave them an opening to take away what he needs to win.

However, to consider Trumps response a rape joke is ridiculous. Invading space is about getting too close to someone and his joke is that he definitely does not want to be too close to her. If you see that as a rape joke, your lense has been colored by the successful work of the Clinton campaign.

For me the main lesson of the past week has been: Never get into a mud slinging war with master mudslingers. The Clintons and their various media allies have PhD's in mudslingerary, while Trump and his allies merely have an associates degree at best. Trump will continue to bluster and appeal to a base he won over a year ago. Meanwhile the Clinton machine will win the votes of white middle class women in the critical swing states with the narrative of Trump being a sexual predator. To them it won't matter that Bill is almost certainly a far worse sexual predator. Bill isn't currently on TV everyday, in the news everyday, and on social media endlessly. The Clintons are betting that people have short term memories. The Clintons are probably right.

Vault Dweller: Yes. That's how I see it as well. And if it were a "rape joke," the onus is on HRC, who introduced the "invading my space" theme. Trump was not interested in "invading her space," i.e. (under this interpretation) did not want to rape her. So he's still guilty? Because maybe he had briefly considered it? Or what?

Why are we still even discussing this? If Silvio Berlusconi can call Angela Merkel an "unfuckable lardass," I think anything Trump would or could say falls pretty flat. Not to mention what the future First Gentleman actually did. HRC implicitly believes all accusers -- except for the bimbo eruptions. They, and they only, are to be scoured off the face of the body politic.

There do exist in this world a considerable number of people who would happily see both of us burned alive. And they aren't particularly shy about saying so. Do you "fear" them? I do. Do you "hate" them? ("Fear" is what "phobia" means, of course, but "hate" is the intended meaning.) I vacillate on this one. In the twilight zone, not only do the inhabitants hold baby trials, but they stage males pretending females to invade the spaces of women and little girls, too. The Pro-Choice Church, Obama, Clinton, and female chauvinists authorized the sacrifice (e.g. interns, secretaries with "benefits") of women and girls to the mentally impaired in order to create democratic leverage. Their conception of liberalism promoted prostitution (a.k.a. "benefits"), serviceable females, child exploitation (not rape-rape), and debasement of human life as a "progressive" culture.

Anyway, it's Pro-Choice politics, where there is a presumption of guilt, and around one million wholly innocent human lives annually sentenced to capital punishment and Planned Parenthood in America alone. Where women and men are taxable commodities, to be kept serviceable, and exploited for democratic leverage. Where progressive wars are normal, assassination of heads of state (and American ambassadors) are resolved with a video, cold wars are reset with competitors nations, and immigration reform is a cover-up and compensation for social justice adventurism and progressive debt.

An untempered liberal culture has progressive consequences, not limited to the victims of the "final solution" in abortion chambers and Planned Parenthood. The unabashed class diversity (i.e. racism, sexism) of Obama, Clinton and Democrats on principle is a gross divergence to the traditional Pro-Choice quasi-religion. The normalization of sex for "benefits" (e.g. prostitution) under the liberals' sexual revolution led by female (and male) chauvinists degraded women, men, girls, and boys. The Pro-Choice Church's avoidance of reconciling moral, natural, and personal imperatives has served the interests of the 1%ers, Obama, Clinton, trans, and wannabes, foreign and domestic, with the sacrifice of women, men, children, babies, functional human relationships, and the economy. [Unqualified] progress.

1. 'only with consent' doesn't quite remove all of it since the sort of real world consent that happens in escalating flirting to making out is nonverbal. if you do it enough, you're going to get rebuffed eventually. trump, who gets flirted with as a charismatic celebrity all the time, *must* have misread a nonverbal green light least once
2. misremembered-decades-later details aside which give surface to claim 'aha! lies!' (the first class armrest that went up, say), i figure these women (or at least plane-women) aren't lying. they believe trump went too far when they were only just interested in a well-spoken man (plane woman claims she never heard of trump before the flight) or a celebrity
3. if it's happened ever (it's still possible these are all lies - just above my pay grade to really stake anything on that), it's happened much more often than the couple reports so far. it's just that most women were satisfied enough with how their 'no' was processed. only the ones who believe they are saving the world from hitler (equivalently are donating to clinton foundation)
4. Trump has been openly engaged, before running for president, in a pattern of stereotypical playboy behavior. So, in the future don't run one of those. Cold fish - mormons and Amish - from now on. Private admissions to Billy Bush and public admissions on e.g. Howard Stern, Playboy interviews.
5. in any given incident, you do of course owe it to yourself to use a grain of salt. for example, successful impersonators of celebrities for purposes of pulling women exist.
I wouldn't bet strongly on "all lies" but it's still a reasonable possibility. Sad times to even think. The facile 'evidence-based' way to think about it is to take all of the above and say "well, even if 1 in 4 are true, there's then almost no chance they're all lies". Okay. But these are not independent events under the "lies" theory.
I think we'd best accept perception is reality and decide what we want for our country.

The belief you can do anything to a woman? It is cruel. It's frightening. And the truth is, it hurts. It hurts.

"...but enough about my good friend Jay Z."

That's the problem when you're trying so DESPERATELY to look hip --- if you never listened to the music you claim to love, you come across like a fucking idiot whining about how offensive Trump's words are when you claim to love words far, FAR worse.

Umm, when do feminists even attempt to "pretend like this doesn't really bother us"? They seem to be OBSESSED with being bothered.

...“I know it's a campaign, but this isn't about politics. It's about basic human decency. It's about right and wrong,” she said. “And we cannot endure this or expose our children to this any longer, not for another minute, let alone for four years..."

"so, I eventually stopped attending Rev Wright's church. Only took about 20 years, but I couldn't handle four more years of it."

Now is the time for all of us to stand up and say, enough is enough. This has got to stop right now.”...<<

On my local rag, I saw a poster, much like Sunsong and our other "unknown" who literally referred to Bill Clinton's excesses as "good ol boy fun" and he was a "grab bag of fun" and that no one minded Bill's advances with women. Then that poster in the same post attacked Trump as a sexual pervert/rapist who should based on his deeds be strung up from the nearest lamppost.

Just like Sunsong is here praising Michelle Obama.... and completely ignoring her Beyonce and Jay-Z obsession (try listening to Beyonce's lyrics) and how she sent her daughter to work on the set of "Girls".

But then, I suspect that the leftists here worship Ted Kennedy, and likely because he killed a woman. That makes him more attractive to them, somehow.

Speaking for myself, I have never liked Trump. I think my posts here over the past year and a half have made that pretty clear. I never wanted him as a nominee. I ranked him at the bottom of the original 17 or 18 GOP nominees (the only people I disliked as much were Jeb, Christie, and Huckabee, for different reasons). And the various allegations and recollections that have popped up over the past week or so obviously haven't exactly helped improve my opinion of him to say the least. I would rather have almost anyone else at this point (maybe even Jeb, Christie, or Huckabee).

All that said, I believe that Hillary is a truly evil person. I believe she and her husband and cronies have destroyed far more lives than Trump has. I believe that if she were elected president, she would continue this legacy of corruption and personal enrichment at the expense of the American people.

Under the Obama Administration, many of the institutions have been at least partially politicized. The FBI, the Justice Dept., and the IRS are the most egregious examples. I believe that President Hillary Clinton would continue to use these institutions as weapons against her political and personal enemies.

Donald Trump may be a sexually aggressive narcissist, but Hillary Clinton may be a cold calculating psychopath.

"... to just assume that everyone is lying all the time is a hard way to live..."

Everyone is lying all the time. We all do, unconsciously, semi-consciously, inadvertently, and deliberately, which we generally just unconsciously rationalize. We are very clever animals, very very good at rationalization.

We communicate an incomplete, inaccurate, unqualified world view with every attempt at communication - often referred to as bias, or spin, which is skewed by our need to communicate something suitable to our purpose, whatever it is at the moment.

The most truthful communications are between people collaborating on a physical or technical task or problem, where all are deliberately striving for accuracy and completeness in order to achieve something external. This is because while we are perfectly fine deceiving each other, the real physical world does not care and can't be deceived.

This is why engineers are the closest to God, the bearers of such truth there is, the epitome of mankind, the chosen people.

That is just the way it is.

It’s good to be afraid of actual threats. It is NOT good to be afraid of people based on the color of their skin, the religion they belong to, their gender, who they love, etc. It is simply not intelligent to make judgments about people you don’t know based on shallow and minimally significant characteristics rather than getting to know them. We are individuals after all.

What is dumb is to paint ALL Muslins with the same brush, as if ALL Christians are the same :-) Terrorists come in all religions and no religion. Terrorism is the problem. And that kind of rage and violence and desire to cruelly harm others is fearful and something we need to be smart about. I think we can help a lot by paying attention to aggressive, insulting, mean-spirited people in our own smaller circles. Love is what ultimately matters in the larger picture, imo.

What was he supposed to do, run away and cede the stage? I suppose that was the plan; everything with Hillary is contrived and orchestrated.

I generally like Michelle but this time she is so full of it, conflating private and public comments by Trump. She knows that at no time in his campaign has Trump said demeaning comments about women. Bill Clinton had an extra marital affair in the White House, but according to Democrats that doesn't count because he's not running for president now. They are claiming the moral high ground, doncha know?

Who knows what Obama has said in private about women when he's talking to his bros? We know now he likes to flash his cock. He was definitely not shy about it. I can say I've never seen a grown man, let alone a president, do something like that in public.

No way in hell is that a rape joke, it's a comment on the media saying he invaded her personal space and he is saying that's ridiculous. Maybe that he doesn't want to be close to her, but nothing at all, nada, zilch about rape or sexual congress of any kind.

If you see rape in there, you need to take a deep breath and count to 10 because you are losing it. You're responding exactly as the media and Clinton campaign want you to... putting things in Trump's mouth or mind that go far beyond anything he said or did.

In some ways he is an obnoxious person, no doubt. But this is all way beyond ridiculous. Even if I set aside all the questions about the plausibility of the claims being made, and accept it all, no one has suggested he did to anyone what Bill Clinton did to Jaunita Broadrick, and Hilary helped cover up. Nor is anyone saying we obviously made a mistake electing Bill Clinton, who did the same and worse using government power and prestige, so we shouldn't elect Trump.

Meanwhile, there are real issues out there, not least the complete breakdown of the international order, which Clinton did so much to ruin, and no one is even trying to talk about any of that.

Once she is president she will not have to come within 100 feet of anyone she doesn't want near her. I can see her sitting at her desk at one end of the oval office and Bill plastered against the wall at the other.

Will she even let Bill into the oval office? Not if she is smart. Very bad optics on so many levels.

sunsong,

You can't really mean this. To believe otherwise would mean that every variety of racism and sexism had free rein. What, you don't see that? You don't see that you're letting everyone's demons loose?

Michael Fitzgerald said...

"what I'm seeing as a rape joke"- Of course. That's what you want to see, and what you want to hear. As we all know, Americans must now be careful of what they say, lest someone be offended by what they want to hear.

AA can't see through the BS being shoveled anymore

Althouse can see it. She recognizes abortion for what it is, the premeditated termination of a wholly innocent human life. She recognizes "=" for what it is, and went to great lengths to rationalize selective exclusion. She probably recognizes [class] diversity for what it is, institutional racism, sexism, etc. -- judgement by "color of skin". She recognizes the liberal culture that degraded women and human relationships. It doesn't matter. The moderate center goes along to get along. The liberals and progressives have their Pro-Choice quasi-religion and twilight fantasies that calm the cognitive dissonance.

Anyway, it's a baby hunt. The liberal culture cannot tolerate rational introspection.

It's a good thing we're discussing this, rather than this:

http://dailycaller.com/2016/10/13/wikileaks-clinton-sent-intelligence-info-to-podestas-hacked-email-account/

This is smoking gun material. None of Comey's bullshit excuses for not prosecuting can hold up in light of this.

But it's more important to completely make up bullshit about Trump (rape joke? That's seriously, literally an utterly insane interpretation. That's extreme SJW territory, and I think even most of them would have thought twice before alleging something that far fetched.) And I don't even LIKE Trump.

But blowing off the fact that we now have both proof and content of Hillary sending classified info, *and that information was provably hacked*... sorry, but this level of bullshit rises to End Of The Republic status.

Rape, rape-rape, or projection? This reminds me of the "black hole" incident where a civil rights business raped a corporation. Or the female chauvinists who sacrifice women, men, children, and babies, for their political progress.

AprilApple,

Teddy Kennedy committed vehicular manslaughter and he was rewarded with a lifetime in the senate.

It might have been "vehicular manslaughter" under the law. In fact, it was letting a girl slowly drown to death while Teddy himself went home and changed his clothes. That ought to have disqualified him from holding any office whatsoever. Instead, we had about three decades of him. "The Lion of the Senate." Sweet.

Between that and HRC's "friend and mentor," the late Senator and Grand Dragon of the KKK, Robert Byrd, I'm not too happy with the Democratic Party. Of course, those were both old hands.

Michelle Dulak Thomson,

Everyone's demons ARE lose. You don't see that? That's a big reason why there is so much pain and suffering and violence in this world.

Yeah, I do mean it. Bigotry is stupid. Negativity is dumb. Terrorism is dangerous and we need to respond wisely, not from simple-minded bigotries.

Not a classy joke, but I think if she's accusing him of stalking her, with a deliberate sexual angle, it's fine for him to respond in kind.

Jupiter said...

Sunsong,

Since you are doubling down on your "stupid" theory, let me ask you a question. Suppose a woman is standing alone on a subway platform in NYC at 3 AM. A train stops with the gap between two cars directly in front of her. There is exactly one rider in each car. There is a man in the front car. There is a woman in the back car. Which car should she choose?

Given the well-known fact that most assaults, and almost all sexual assaults, are committed by men, I would advise her to choose to ride with the woman. I would say that such a choice is certainly "sexist", but very far from stupid. What is stupid is allowing your naive idealism to guide you in matters of grave importance, against your better judgment based upon your own and others' experience. When the only life at stake is your own, it is merely perverse. When others' lives are at stake, it is selfish, irresponsible and immoral.

Jupiter, I agree. The same goes with whether to cross the street when you (a woman) encounter a bunch of men. I am told first that (a) you should do whatever you feel necessary to feel safe; and (b) you shouldn't avoid them; that'd be sexist! And racist, if they weren't of your race. Or even if they were of your race, because we have scary black men and scary white men and scary Asian men and scary Latino men and scary Amerindian men and ...

Anyway, the "scared white woman clutching her purse" is such a stereotype now. I had -- not a purse, but a sort of brief -- nearly snatched a couple of decades ago. I was happy and joyful; it was my birthday, and I was carrying an armful of flowers along with the brief. I was with my professor, walking across SF Civic Center. Then this guy came up and tried to tear the brief out of my hands. He didn't succeed, because I held on.

I won't say what race the guy was. Leave that to your own imaginations.

"Everyone's demons ARE loose. You don't see that? That's a big reason why there is so much pain and suffering and violence in this world."

And so it has always been. Nothing at all new about demons. History teaches perspective.
They do a truly rotten job of teaching history these days. Worse, that's what they mean to do, a rotten job.

"Bigotry is stupid. Negativity is dumb. "

Bigotry is prudent. Negativity is wise.
Both have much better historical support than the opposite.
It was the "progressive" way to attach some "just so" story to their preferred attitudes, thereby seeking to justify them, but it was never really so, once you open the hood. The actual engines of history don't look a bit like the stories.

"walking across SF Civic Center."

Any walk through there should convince anyone of the stupidity of modern social policy.
Potentially a lovely place, which should be the gathering spot of the city, the forum franciscanum (maybe I have messed up my Latin). But no, it is overrun with lowlifes. My wife and daughter wont go there without me.

I have been accosted there, with attempted robbery, on several occasions.

Your reading only makes sense if all sex is rape. Saying I'd rather dive head first into a pool of my own vomit than have sex with some woman I loathe would be a sex joke, not a rape joke.

No we need to respond ferociously and determinedly. Do you think we win any sympathy or consideration when we act with restraint and timidity against our enemies? Of course we don't. We are seen as weak and as suckers by our enemies all over the world.

It is long past time to show they world that if you fuck with us we will kill people and break things, until you get the message to leave us the fuck alone.

We have been fighting this war for 1,400 years, and the only respite we get is when we inflict pain on them. Then they leave us alone for a generation or two.

buwaya,

That was actually the only attempted crime I experienced there. Lots of begging, though. There was a man I ran across many times. He always said "I haven't eaten for two days." I offered him my packed dinner. He said he couldn't eat it; bad teeth. I said, OK, take me to somewhere you can get food that doesn't offend your teeth. He said, we need to go to Chinatown. I said, OK, let's. At that point he did take my dinner. Suspicious, yet?

I'm thinking meth. The tooth thing was pretty obvious.

"we need to respond wisely, not from simple-minded bigotries."

One person's bigotry is another's wisdom.

Years ago, I was walking through San Francisco about 2 AM with my wife and a couple from Holland. He was a surgeon attending the College of Surgeons meeting there. As we walked I warned them that it was not safe to do so alone. There were four of us so it was probably OK (That was 30 years ago and it was probably true then). He laughed and said he had been in the Dutch Resistance and had killed a dozen Germans with his bare hands. I told him I felt much safer.

buwaya said...

"I'm thinking meth. The tooth thing was pretty obvious."

Much, much meth. Much insanity too. I have had too many occasions for late business there -

I was variously -

- assaulted with an iron bar (randomly, I was just walking along) walking back late from the Opera.

- kicked by two characters after refusing their begging in the evening by the Fed courthouse.

- My android phone was snatched while leaving a school board meeting.

"live a more virtuous life.. be a man and always try to do the right thing..."

Romney did that and was crucified by the press, the Democrats and some Republicans.

Romney was the straw that broke the camel's back, with me, and a lot of other people, many of whom today support Trump.

Romney was objectively a good man, who had led a generous, successful and exemplary life. He should be a role model for our children. He was the man we needed for the times....he has spent his life turning around failure. Imagine where our country could be today if he had won.

That the MSM would be willing to, and indeed eager to, collude with the Democratic Party to demonize and destroy this man is horrifying. The fact that they could take his "binders full of women" remark, and successfully turn it into an attack on women is a condemnation of the state of our republic.

The MSM and the Democratic Party have cried wolf too many times, and now when there may indeed be a real wolf at the door, no one is listening.
