"Things are going to get very nasty this year."

A feature, not a bug, in my view. I don't remember being this entertained in 2012.

Does Salon do anything else?

Downside for Trump supporters is that Clinton's posse may finally take a look at Adam's persuasion critiques. Although, with Hillary coming out on the attack last week, they may have already got a clue.

Amanda Marcotte calling people names. Lol.

If only Scott Adams were blogging in support of a worthy candidate, like John Edwards!

Michael K said...

Adams has already said he is voting for Hillary to keep the assassins away.

The Vault Dweller said...

Didn't Amanda Marcotte work on the campaign of Senator John Edwards, who was the presidential Candidate, who cheated on his wife who was dying of cancer at the time?

Ron Winkleheimer said...

If I had realized that it was Amanda Marcotte I never would have read the article.

She is the most humorless scold known to mankind. If I had to choose between having a beer with her or a still living Carrie Nation, I would choose Nation in a heartbeat.

With Nation I could have a discussion about how the Bible does not, in fact, prohibit drinking, just drunkenness.

Marcotte would just call me a dirty cis-male enabler of the patriarchy and hiss at me like a pissed off cat.

More Trumpian: "She's not nice. Salon is failing!"

"Bottom-feeder at Salon"

Department of Redundancy Department.

Beat me to it, Fernandinande.

"Weak" is also redundant. Or euphemistic.

More better: "Look at that face!"

Good for her, she hit on every single one of his idiosyncrasies. Looks like Scott Adams has as thin a skin as the Donald who he loves... In secret. Or she could've called him an idiot and left it at that.

Rae said...

Is there a way to cause temporary brain damage so I can give Marcottes article the rumination it deserves?

Inga said...

Yes Rae, just read Scott Adams' drivel.

The good news is that once Marcotte has denounced you as an evil tool of patriarchal oppression, you're in the company of such fine American institutions as the home-cooked family dinner and the plastic laundry basket.

Bill Peschel said...

Deciding between Scott Adams and Amanda Marcotte is just as bad as deciding between Trump and Hillary.

harrogate said...

Anyone who's been reading Adams knows he's been actively supporting Trump throughout his time writing about Trump. The whole "but I'm not a fan " is schtick, one part of how he's managed to get himself trafficked again.

It's sort of like how Charles Barkley "isn't against Golden State," although Charles didn't need the traffic. Charles just doesn't like Golden State but doesn't want to admit it either .

rhhardin said...

Klavan says Hillary's accusation that Trump is talking in code and really wants to take the country backwards is nonsense.

If Trump wanted to take the country backwards, he'd put it on the hat and brag about it.

It will be really huge.

Inga said...

Exactly right harrogate. Adams is an attention whore hanging on the Trump's tail in hopes that some of Trump's fleas will jump on him.

Michael K said...

I agree that "Miriam" is another reincarnation of Inga.

Sad little waif.

furious_a said...

She is the most humorless scold known to mankind.

Bill Kristol is gearing up to challenge her for the Title.

furious_a said...

I hope Ms. Marcotte can dislodge that hook in her gills.

n.n said...

Adams crossed the orthodoxy. The establishment strikes back.

jg said...

Poor Miriam.

You'd have to be pretty unfamiliar with his output to not realize Adams has given Trump probably at least a percentage point boost, obviously intentionally.

Sure, he's getting rewarding exposure for it now, but he'd really stuck his neck out in the beginning. He was on the train way before most. Like many of us, he believes Trump is a good, competent person with good intentions for this nation. Contrast to Hillary, who at best has "don't care" intentions toward the nation and has obvious personal failings. Disqualifying failings.

Add to this that Trump is certainly a centrist and nationalist, and is at least presenting himself as populist (probably he is one)

The only thing worse than a degenerate or a scold is a degenerate scold. Amanda Marcotte. To be damned by her is to be praised.

furious_a said...

The establishment strikes back.

Adams is smarter and funnier than the establishment.

Clyde said...

Amanda Marcotte. Say no more.

harrogate said...

I admit that watching Bill Kristol snivel and whine has been a major perk of this whole thing.

As to Adams being early on the Trump train? And Adams has boosted his numbers ? Well. It depends . Does the wall to wall coverage he got immediately , by all the television media, not count for anything ? Live streaming his speeches for a year probably helped him at least as much as the Dilbery guy did .

Michael K said...

"And Adams has boosted his numbers ? "

My guess is that if you had Adams money, you could throw yours away, like Dean Martin used to say.

I've been reading and buying Dilbert books for 25 years.

fivewheels said...

Adams staked out his position on Trump when that position seemed unthinkable and was supposedly the mark of a fool. He gets credit for that.

What he's done since is offer comforting explanations to skeptical people like me, who need to hear a plausible theory of why Trump is not crazy. Adams is telling us: "He's just saying these things for effect. This is the effect he's going for, and look! It worked, and here's why."

I don't know how much that actually helps Trump in the polls, because I don't know how many people are reading Adams' explanations, but it seems helpful overall.

Troubled Voter said...

Carrying water for Trump, the way Adams and Althouse are doing, will rightfully be a mark against them for the rest of their lives. It's really gross, especially the way they think they are so cute in how they do it.

harrogate said...

They don't think they are cute . They genuinely enjoy him and are pretty open about it . I fail to see how this will be a "mark against them" when they're in such crowded company .

jacksonjay said...

Things White People Say: Dilbert added a point to Trump! Bwhaaaaaaaaaa!

eddie willers said...

I read her column and saw where she posted link after link to previous Adam's posts.

Its obvious she didn't actually read them, otherwise she'd have to be impressed that he has called this race to an accuracy that shames Nate Silver.

harrogate said...

Adams sold lots of Dilbert books and might have more money than I do .

For the mentally challenged , that means that Adams' endorsement has boosted Trump's numbers.

Michael K said...

A lot of us see him as Danton and if he fails, Robespierre is ready in the wings.

This is the revolution that I was writing about last summer. The question is if it remains peaceful.

Amanda Marcotte as a "bottom feeder." Lordy, Lordy.

Amanda Marcotte, locked into a state of permanent PMS.

You'd think anyone who calls Scott Adams a "fascist" would be laughed out of town.

But then I forget that "fascist" doesn't really mean "fascist". Just like "racist", "sexist", "antisemite", et al don't mean what they really mean.

They're just left-wing terms of abuse. Which is why I don't care.

Paco Wové said...

What, you think she's not?

Adams is a leading indicator. Grandma wishes you well. You're already on the path to 1789 and 1917 and the pent up reactionary passions o your kind. “Please Dictators we do not want to change.” The kindling is stacked high. So it's important to track what libertarians and conservative thinkers jump ship before the chaos descends and kills them all. Sanity will not return for a century ,like the USSR where they got tired of living entire lives in bad shoes, where everyone was equal but they added nothing od import to humankind save for nightsoil for the lack of a price signal. Some places might be a safe refuge like China. But a century is but blink of an eye out here. As I've said earlier, you earth worshipers come to early and bad ends, so we'll have to visit sooner than we wanted and reseed your ball of dirt with some of our insects, and wait a million years to see what emerges. Hopefully something better but our track record is not good.

Adams has quite a number of interesting things to say about Trump and his persuasion skills. His analysis is validated by the fact that his predictions have actually come true, unlike the predictions of global warming. His comments about Hillary changing her tactics and going for emotion over credentialism is one of the more interesting developments. Her surrogates were always going to label Trump as a reincarnation of Hitler, but for her to do it directly is a change.

It will be interesting to see if she can hire enough talent in the speechwriting department to continue that line of attack. She will have to do that because Trump has natural talent in that area whereas she is a rank amateur.

Shorter analysis : Name-Calling is master persuasion !

Trump Love sounds good to me. A year ago no one really thought The Donald's talents were needed, but now he seems to be irreplaceable and the GOP's old political tricksters who dressed themselves up as Reaganesque Real Conservatives have faded away.

Great Scott
Not Amanda Marcotte!

It may just be a dream: I'm in the temple again. No stars and not much light. Robes passing over stone. Musty air.

Whispers. Chanting. A book reading on the intersectionality of bodies in space?

Cats dart to and fro, in and out of flickering candle-flame.

Is that Naomi Wolf? Lena Dunham?

It's ceremony of some kind...

They're reading from a rulebook! May I kiss your hand? NO! May I place my hand upon your knee! YES! NO!

At the center: An empty pantsuit upon an old dress form. There, in the corner, a man wearing a goat's head, staring sightlessly out into the crowd.

What is this place?
