Were you among those who laughed at Toronto Mayor Rob Ford? I wasn't: "Me, I've always ignored Ford. I didn't care to amuse myself with him when he was supposedly so amusing."

My sense of him was that he would have been happiest as a high school football coach (which he was, in his spare time), but he came form a political family and had political skills. His brother, who lacks those skills, but is a political animal, pushed him into an office he wasn't constitutionally suited for.

He was one of the very few politicians in Toronto who respected the taxpayer, but he was destroyed by an opposition that was vicious and relentless. I can't vote here, and I didn't think he was right for the job, but given the chance, I would have voted for him anyway just to piss off the Toronto Star.; 3/22/16, 1:40 PM

John Henry said...: I remember reading about Ford at the time of his election. His opponent was establishment down to his shoes.

But if you thought Ford was batshit crazy, and he did give that impression, the other, establishment, guy was far far nuttier with far, far, more baggage.

Ford seemed to me like the better alternative.
