"This person tweeted, 'Enjoying Mt. Ontake all alone,' merely 1 min before the eruption."

"Hasn’t tweeted since then."

You cannot outrun a volcanic eruption.

Great New England Life ad or a good Baptist sermon on getting saved today and not later.

Last tweets ought to converge on "Oh shit" if it's like cockpit voice recorders..

Maybe it was a virgin and the volcano simply couldn't resist.

Needs the 'I'm being burned alive by lava' emoticon.

Sometimes you take a risk and it doesn't work out.

I magine it was probably thrilling for awhile, quite wondrous, and then horrible at the end should he have been there.

By that I mean the whole excursion.

I blame Climate Change for this. Damn you rethuglicans and your planet-killing SUVs.

The video is maddening; usually we complain about people shooting video in portrait format; in this case, they shot in landscape (appropriate), then POSTED it in portrait, so you have to watch it sideways!
There's no winning with these phone camera-people.

Well they could have said,
"Fuck video fo Awchie Waugh. Ret's get out of here!"
But they didn't.

Hey, there are worse ways to go.

Saint Peter: How'd you die?

Newly Departed: Lost an argument with a volcano.

Saint Peter: You're in.

Sure does seem to be lots of volcanic activity around the world right about now....Iceland, Mexico, Indonesia, Hawaii, Japan, etc.

And this video of the sonic boom caused by the erupting New Guinea video is beyond belief.

Some scientists think that variations in the speed of the Earth's rotation (due to changing gravitational forces caused by the sun and Moon) cause volcanic activity.

So is the moral of the story hiking kills or that volcanoes upchuck when you least expect it?

Wow. God bless those people. I guess the the geologist didn't see anything before hand. Wow.

At least the white man isn't throwing black people into volcanoes. Yet.

It is turtles all the way down...

Whatever you do, do not stop to gaze at the pyroclastic flow, impressive as it may be. There have been very few surviving eyewitnesses in history.

"Alright, who pissed off Pele?"

That would be pretty much the entire Brazillian team given how they played in the World cup.

As Bugs Bunny would say, "What a maroon!"

St. George - I guess you didn't get the memo. Global warming is causing all the volcanic activity.

...and one good volcano and you can kiss global warming good-bye for a year or two....

That was frightening and disturbing. Those people didn't make it. Thirty people apparently suffocated.

Japan is prone to volcanos, earthquakes and tsunamis, it's the price the Japanese pay for living in the convergence zones of four tectonic plates.

They get typhoons too.
