That is our living room. The poster came with Meade and was, I think, his most prized possession. I found the image on line here but the color and condition of that don't look as good as what we have.

It's beyond belief.

I'm only up to about 1957, and already there've been dozens of mishaps involving the handling of nuclear bombs, many of which could have caused detonations.

I've learned a lot. Immediately after WWII, there was movement to internationalize control of the Bomb. This was quickly supplanted by a movement to immediately crush the USSR (this is the USSR before it had the Bomb) with our arsenal. Nice thought.

Truman sent Atomic Energy Commission chief David Lilienthal to inspect our bombs at Los Alamos, for at that time they were under civilian control. Liiienthal found the place a mess (reassuring) and that perhaps one bomb might work. Ha.; 11/30/13, 4:47 PM
