"Psychiatric Help 5¢."

Chip Ahoy riffs on that "frank and candid exchange of ideas" photograph we were talking about yesterday.

Good one, Chip. He does know how to wield a football like Lucy did.

Does Mr Ahoy have an Amazon portal?

Actually, it looks like the real booth is off camera.

Actually, he doesn't.

If he did, his approval in PA wouldn't be where it was right before the election.

Ed, you need to lighten up. Be happy brother, let a little light shine into your life and give us all a little smile.

Peace and love to everyone.

Is this a case of physician heal thyself? Does Obama follow the Hippocratic oath? Has a patient taken over the asylum?

Heh. 5¢? Figures that the cost of advice hasn't experienced a price bubble, unlike so many other damn things. Quite the contrary!

I hear Choomie's approval is 44% in PA and I smile all over the place.

AReasonableMan said...

I'm glad that you are smiling, given that he is going to be your president for the next four years. Still, let the bitterness go, feel the love brother, feel the love.

Wait till the crash.

I can see a host of scenarios where we're rid of him in less than a year.

There's another coming, haven't you heard?

I guess sound doesn't travel when your head's up your ass.

Or does Troll believe Choom when he says we don't have a debt crisis?

I don't get it.

Are the Republicans in need of "Psychiatric help"? I hardly think so.

Is Barack Obama "Lucy"? That's such a complicated metaphor, all humor is lost. Lucy was an ovebearing know-it-all. Is that what the joke is?

Is "Congress" subject to jokes about how they can't get anything done? All of the budget disputes over the past four or five years have been deadly serious. Republicans want to get very, very serious about federal spending. Democrats know that, and they don't want to give up their pet programs of the last 50 years. It is a serious fight. We need more national attention on it, not less. People need to make more hard arguments, not fewer. This is as serious a fight about the future of government as there has been in our lifetimes.

So no, I really don't get the joke.

Even when Charles Schultz was doing the srip on a daily basis, the Lucy-as-sidewalk-shrink was a bit of a complicated joke.

In addition to practicing psychiatry without a license, and giving terrible advice, Lucy Van Pelt is also known for hilariously fooling good ole Charlie Brown into trying to punt the ball and then hilariously snatching it away at the last second causing Charlie Brown to hilariously fall on his ass for the nine millionth time.

Brew Master said...

Charlie Brown never learned that the smart thing to do was not to play with Lucy. She always pulled the ball away, without fail.

Obama as Lucy, and the GOP as Charlie Brown, will they ever learn to not play his game? Or will they always end up on their backs staring at the sky, dumbfounded that this time was no different despite all the assurances?

Henry said...

My favorite Peanuts joke of all time is this one:

Lucy: Why do you think we're put here on earth Charlie Brown?
CB: To make others happy.
Lucy: I don't think I'M making anyone very happy. Of course nobody's making ME very happy either. SOMEBODY'S NOT DOING HIS JOB!

It's very helpful for understanding narcissists.

Dante said...

I don't get it.

As I recall, Lucy was willing to give some very poor advice to poor Charlie Brown. Somehow, it was always the kind of advice like "You are screwed up, and a jerk."

Lucy was a narcissist. Obama is a narcissist. You can leave the Rs out of it, though they are kind of sad these days, I think, with no real prospects. Some of it is self-made, like not dealing with illegal immigration when they had the chance. Trying to deal with a "New, Compassionate" world that is antithetical to self determination. Some might even say the Republican Party has a split personality right now.

As far as the football thing, how many times has Obama said "I will do XYZ?" Open government. Work with Republicans. I'm pretty sure one could find a major list of promises that weren't fulfilled.

Only one real Black guy in the room and they made him sit in the back.

Chuck gets the joke. He's just yanking the football away.
