In 1977 I was a 2Lt. in the Air Force, assigned to an office out of the Pentagon. I lived in Alexandria VA. I had reporters call me more than once wanting to talk to me and thinking I was Tom Harkin's nephew because my last name is Harkins. They refused to accept, “Not me.” as an answer. I have never trusted anything reporters said since.
What bothers me is that when most politicians retire, they don't live in the hell they created for the rest of us. Many move on to high paying lobbyist or consultant jobs. My guess is that government pensions are pretty lucrative, even for those who served only a few years.

State-by-state, one-by-one
And yes, gun control did put the Senate in play.
Now he can lie about his illustrious war record and no one will care.
You say gun control put the Senate in play? They bother me. The noise does. So I bought a speargun for self defense porpoises.
When the Lefty media describes him as a foul-mouthed lout, you know he's a creep.
PS Argghhhh!
Sad, another faux Vietnam combat pilot retires, old faux warriors don't fade away, they become professors or lobbyist.
Good.
He's another one of these Ethanol Subsidy goofballs who are starving 3rd world people to death.
He served 20 years too long.
So I bought a speargun for self defense porpoises.
I actually own a speargun--with a trident tip--just in case you want to put me on some kind of list.
I'm trying hard to think of what he accomplished.
addition by subtraction
Who could blame him. The Senate is a rigged game. This Senate doesn't deserve Harkin.
Speaking as an Iowa resident and voter:
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A perfect example of why term limits are attractive to thinking people.

This!
As another Iowa resident, I heartily concur. I don't even care if another Democrat replaces him.
Garage, for once i agree with you: the Senate deserves a lot worse than Harkin. We're the ones who deserve far more.
Tom Harkin - another long serving Congress critter who should be blamed for the country's insolvency.
Why is it about time?

I could have strung them on for a bunch of BS.
The mid-west version of Chuck Schumer. These guys can't leave fast enough.
The true benchmark: national debt when he arrived, the debt when he departs. He will be so proud. Actually, he won't care a twit.

Ex senators need to live in the state they represented for at least 10 years.
"Why is it about time?"
It's not.
It's so far past-time for Harkin that you can't even see time from here...
