While "Julia" sold her soul to dreary government dependency, Brendon went off and created something with his own money and hard work. Good on him.
Too bad we discourage this kind of independence and entrepreneurship in Europe and the US these days. And when will this evil capitalist repatriate his offshore earnings so Britain can tax them?!?
What a remarkable man. I think the surmise that he would be hard to live with is true. He doesn't seem to be a man who would much care what other people think. I'm glad his island is being preserved. I'd hate to think all his hard work would be undone. Somewhere there's a person with the passion and skills to keep the island going. The problem will be finding that person. I hope the search has already started.

Knowing what you really want and then finding it is rare. His contentment shows.
Why is this 1% Satan spawn allowed to waste hoarded community resources on his own vision?

While "Julia" sold her soul to dreary government dependency....
You underestimate the power of dissatisfaction that comes of dependency.
Julia will soon demand from the government her right to her own island with tortoises, and this guy's island will be taken to make it all fair.
He wanted to walk with the tortoises before the death panels had him sleeping with the fishes.
If you don't like him, don't worry. It's the Maldives. He'll be under water soon in the global warming rise of the seas.
The Maldives? Aren't they off the coast of Argentina?
Not the Maldives, Professor, the Seychelles. It is a National Park.
