I sat in that very same window both of my sophomore years, drinking beer and watching the coeds pass by. Good seat, especially in Spring.

On 30 Rock, I just watched the interview with the woman who had an affair--if that's the word for it--with JFK when she was an intern in the White House. The story rang true, and some of the details were more than sordid. JFK seems to have been quite a user and exploiter of women. The woman spoke with the same mixture of confusion, anger, and love that incest survivors speak of their father. It was painful to watch.....At the end of the interview Chris Matthews and Doris Kearns Goodwin explained that the American public were already aware of his affairs so that this really shouldn't matter. Matthews said great heroes sometimes have great flaws. They praised his ability to compartmentalize. They said that although he was reckless as regards his sex life, none of this bled over into other areas of his Presidency. It was just a funny coincidence that the Cuban Missile Crisis happened on his watch.....If you ever wondered about the dynamics of how so many Catholic prelates covered up for so many rotten priests, watch how the liberals spin this awful story about President Kennedy.

There are words for what Jack Kennedy did to this young woman; none of them nice.

And she was not the only one.

Today I ordered the ebook of a first edition of a book to compare it to the second edition which I already have. I thought it would arrive instantly via email, so I didn't order it until I sat down with my coffee, notes from the second edition, pen, and an hour to myself.

No book.

That was at noon. Still no book.

I want my book.

I should have guessed that this print vendor would probably not have an automated ebook distribution system, but I didn't. I think I have to wait for someone in their office to email it to me.

Add to that all the prescription drugs (also LSD and Amphetamines)
Kennedy was on that our MSM kept from us until 1996.

Yay Camelot...

Cool place. A bar should look like a bar.

And there's nothing like neon for that.

When he brought girls from Haavahd up to HyannisPawt for a weekend, he'd warn them, "Keep your door locked. The old man likes to go prowling at night".

Like father, like son.

Ate at Frida's once. Now it's closed. Won't eat there again.

I've eaten at Ian's, just barely visible in the far left of the frame, many many times. Delicious.

Okie! I would like to discuss your policy of deleting comments that discuss deletions, Althouse...

Or do you delete comments that discuss your policy of deleting comments that discuss deletions?

You see where I am going with this, don't 'ya?

re: JFK

Lesson for liberals: Don't worship mortals!

Same applies to conservatives and Reagan.

And since it is closed, you really can't order anything you want and expect it to show up.

You can check out anytime you like, however.

Please don't delete without comment any comments that discuss the deletion of comments that talk about deleting comments.

It's always nice to read about a blurb about a "commitment to free speech" before reading the "we delete..." paragraph.

Just like saying "I'm not a bigot, but...". THE DREADED "BUT"!!!

By the standard of Althouse's last post, I'd say that this is an example of a 1* and X* bifurcation... evidence that Althouse and Meade are irrational!!!

Irrational like the Feigenbaum Number. Chaotic like it too.

The place looks vaguely familiar but I'm afraid my memories are even "Hazier" than Michael's up thread.

Good times from what I can remember.

Now the GAB is saying that they will only take challenges from the Walker campaign because a person can't just show up in court and offer to testify. However, since Courts do take "Friend of the Court" briefs from interested third parties that may be taken into consideration, doesn't the GAB analogy fail? Just asking, as I am not an attorney.

Dead Julius offered: Okie! I would like to discuss your policy of deleting comments that discuss deletions, Althouse...

Isn't the policy: "Don't be deleterious"?

I met Ronald Reagan and if I'm any judge of character, his was exemplary.

So Kathleen Falk has now promised the unions that, in accordance with their demands, if she is elected governor, she will veto any budget that does not restore collective bargaining.

Guess we know who will be pulling her strings if she wins a recall election. It's amazing what's crawling out from under the public employee union rock now that it's finally been overturned.

I think the bottom line is Athouse, understandably, wants to class the joint up. For a long time the 'amusing ones' were complimentary and funny. But when guests begin swinging from the chandelier and pissing in the potted plants, and blaming it on their hostess, changes needed to be made. It's calmer and more civil now, and gosh darn it, I like it.

Warning: This new company website contains a slight bit of soft suggestive nudity! But to me it is rather inspired, and exceptionally cheeky. Maybe you fellow Caféziens likey?

Dirty Dishes

I hope that doesn't get censored!

The first comment I had deleted here was re: Althouse stuff and madame trying to make a buck off her blog. My sarcasm obviously struck a nerve w/Meade who deleted it almost instantaneously as he made a comment at the same time. Interestingly madame must have overruled hubby as the comment mysteriously reappeared overnight.

At my 1st political blog, discussing moderation was forbidden, no ifs, ands or buts. Not only was the post deleted, but a very good chance the poster would be permanently deleted also. :D

Taking everything into consideration, this blog really is quite liberal :-P re: rules er lack thereof. Because of the mickey mouse layout of blogger.com, there is no mechanism for banning folks. Most, if not all political blogs require membership, which is the only way moderation makes any sense to begin with.

Post deletion discussion at Althouse = beating a dead horse, notwithstanding.

btw, it's good to have a sense of humor when Meade is deleting all your posts ie on a deleting rampage lol.

I'm surprised Althouse didn't leave blogger.com when she was having her bruhaha w/management and told everyone, in so many words, she was 100% sure she was relocating.

Many of her flock were really excited and then she let them down lol.

I digress.

It's nearly 3AM. I like to stay up until this time because it reminds me of the good ole' days of 2008 when Obama was kind and everybody was concerned with who would be answering the ringing red phone...

BBBBRRRIIINNNGGG! BBBRRRIIINNNGGG!

I am working on perfecting my Vodka recipies. Gonna start a vodka website soon! Here is latest version:

- 1 part good Vodka (Tito's and Russian Standard Original are excellent and not too expensive; the Danish Fris is cheap and works well with the Red Bull; if you get Mr. Boston, though, I will come to your house in the darkest hour of the night and tell you nicely that it is not an acceptable vodka!)

- 1 part Red Bull

- a dash of Orange Powerade

Serve in a tall glass over ice. Personally, I like it served in travel mugs for the irony.

I used to call it a "Putin".

But now I think a better name is an "Obamadrone".

Gosh-e... I hope my vodka recipe doesn't get censored!

wv: "fisarkbf" -- yeah, that's right!

Where's Titus these days? I know he gets a free pass from the Meadian censorship, so that can't be keeping him away...

Re Kennedy-- and I've heard much worse stories.

It makes you wonder how Kennedy might have treated Marilyn Monroe. Who wasn't a girl, of course-- but pretty messed up psychologically already. And especially messed up at that time.

"Athouse, understandably, wants to class the joint up."

I assume Althouse wanted a high-toned, clever, witty discussion salon, but the results had been decidedly mixed. So some (not all) of the more loutish, boring commenters have been encouraged to depart.

Re: Kennedy, the more I read about the 50s and 60s, the more I realize that they weren't all that staid. Lots of sex, infidelity, sexual experimentation, drugs, booze, etc. Especially in Hollywood and JFK's WH. I know today is supposed to be the abyss of moral behavior, but I'm not seeing all that much difference from 50 years ago. Now we just have more media outlets.

In my defense I honestly believed I was outside on the deck. And who doesn't like to wee off the deck of a chilly winter evening.
Sorry about the cat.

Dead Julius: You see where I am going with this, don't 'ya?

Yup.

If Fen and Julius are allied against you, you must really be doing something wrong.

And deleting comments about the moderation policy is not moderations, its covering your own ass.

Kathleen Falk

Yes, I heard that on the news. My first reaction? Not going to be elected.

It would be nice to have a Democrat win the primary who wasn't tied so tightly to the Teachers' Union. That's kinda like asking for a Republican who is pro-choice however.

That didn't happen. There's no way to restore a comment once it's deleted.

If you really saw it, then it went away, then it came back, the only thing I can think of is that it got caught in the spam filter and I later cleared the filter.

Maybe you enjoy picturing disputes between me and Meade, but there's never been anything like that.

"Okie! I would like to discuss your policy of deleting comments that discuss deletions, Althouse... Or do you delete comments that discuss your policy of deleting comments that discuss deletions? You see where I am going with this, don't 'ya?"

I don't care if you discuss it in an open thread. What I don't like is the off-topic comments in a substantive thread. Discussion of a deletion is off topic. An open thread doesn't have a topic.

Ann Althouse said...

"It's always nice to read about a blurb about a "commitment to free speech" before reading the "we delete..." paragraph."

It comes after a sentence that says " But I won't allow bad faith commenters to leverage their destructiveness on my commitment to free speech." I think the entire concept is presently quite cogently there.

If you don't see how some comments, on my blog, in the middle of a thread where some people are trying to talk about something, can disrupt the conversation... you're being obtuse.

Ann Althouse said...

"But when guests begin swinging from the chandelier and pissing in the potted plants, and blaming it on their hostess, changes needed to be made. It's calmer and more civil now, and gosh darn it, I like it."

Civility was never the point. And the commenting instructions do not say that it is. The distinction is not between civil and uncivil. It is between good faith and bad faith. We're culling comments that we believe are made for the purpose of ruining the conversation.

Fen said...

I understand completely and agree with that policy. The problem is a lack of enforcement against feces-throwers like Shiloh and Ritmo.

I mean, hell, we've got an actual admission from Ritmo on these very pages claiming he only posts here to spike the thread, and yet you let him pass.

No, I just assumed that's what happened. Still, very strange blog/internet glitch.

Another reason why you should have actually moved from blogger, but guess you got cold feet, eh. Or maybe after (8) years you have become really, really attached to blogger :D or more likely, you're just lazy. :-P

>

And oh the irony of Fen calling anyone a "feces-thrower". btw, did Fen and Meade kiss and make up ~ kumbaya!

Ebook arrived. Love it. Love it so much I wish I could draw a big heart on it, but I can't because it's a PDF.

Well, okay, I wouldn't really draw a heart on it in any case.

But I do heart it.

When I love a PDF ebook enough, I upload it to Fedex Office (formerly Kinkos) and have it printed. The best virtual things born into the material world. Now with spiral binding.
