Will the Wisconsin GOP senators all survive the recalls?

Early results say yes!

UPDATE: Here's the Twitter feed #Wirecall. AND: Here are the AP results, showing the precinct totals.

UPDATE 2: "Sen. Luther Olsen has been declared the third GOP incumbent to hold his seat today by a Madison TV station."

"Sen. Luther Olsen is on his way to his election night party, his campaign manager announced."

If 4 of the 6 GOP incumbents win, then the Democrats have not taken over the Senate. It looks as though Kapanke will lose, so the question is what happens with Hopper and Darling. All 3 of those incumbents must go down, or the Democratic cause is lost. Darling is expected to win, though if you look at the numbers right now — 9:57 CT — she's down. But only 1 of 11 Waukesha precincts have reported. This is a flashback to the Prosser-Kloppenburg results reporting. You can try to make some predictions by looking at the final results from the Prosser-Kloppenburg race.

UPDATE 2, 12:22 a.m. CT — There are still 13 precincts remaining in the recall against incumbent Alberta Darling, but I did the math, assuming the remaining precincts have a proportionate number of votes and that the percentages in the remaining precincts are the same as in the rest of the county. With those assumptions, Darling wins by about 2500 votes, so I'm predicting Darling will win, leaving the Democrats picking up only 2 seats and not the needed 3. The majority in the Wisconsin senate will, if that pans out, stay with the GOP (without regard to what happens in the 2 recall elections next week).

If the GOP holds all six, can they possibly win the Holperin race next week and make it a flee free senate?

Yes we can!

At a minimum, maybe the Walker recall effort will be truncated.

At Kos they have some interesting numbers.

The Dems have to outperform Kloppy's results by the following %:
Nusbaum needs +7.7; Pasch +7.5; Clark +4.6; King +3.0. Clark is only outperforming Kloppy by +0.5%. So only Kapanke looks to be at risk

Anonymous said...

Let's not forget that MSNBC said these recall elections are the "leading indicator" of the 2012 election 57-state landslide that will see Barack Obama ejected from office.

Jason said...

The early voting couldnt be better for the GOP, actually.

Olsen leads Clark by 10 with nothing yet from Sauk County. If Sauk breaks for Clark about 60/40 like it should, Olsen should squeak by with the GOP votes still out there in the northern part of that district.

Darling is cleaning up where she should be, which is a good sign that the GOP did turn out there.

Kapanke is doing well early, but no results are in yet from LaCrosse County, which will break sharply to Schilling. Unless Kapanke totally cleans up around the Prairie du Chien area and does better than expected in LaCrosse, I fear he will lose, as many predicted.

The only votes in so far in the Hopper race are from Winnebago, and to be up 8 so far in that race is a good sign. That will be the race to watch, and probably the closest race IMO.

The GOP is getting what it needs - big leads in their strongholds. It all depends on the Dem turnout and if its enough to win.

We may need the Meadhouse mathematicians to look at the Alberta contest.

How do you get about thirty thousand folks to sign a recall petition, at the same time you only get teens of thousands to vote?

Maybe the lib signers are too lazy to vote?

Maybe the union pushed the libs to sign the petitions?

Or, maybe this is typical lib petition fraud, aka as ACORNism.

The early results from LaCrosse County show Schilling with only a 56-44 advantage with about 25% of those precincts in. I guarantee you it should be bigger. Kapanke is overperforming big-time, and if that LaCrosse County spread holds true and Kapanke gets an amazing result from the SW part of the state, that race is gonna be closer than a lot of people think.

If Republicans do win (say except for in La Crosse), I think a lot of it isn't so much due to love for Republicans, but resentment that we have to have a nasty, expensive election in the summer, 9 months after the last expensive, nasty election.

Antidotal stories (yes, I know, not exactly scientific) out of the SD10 (Hudson-Ellsworth) is that it isn't so much love for Harsdorf, but people being upset that they are being bombarded with ads for an election that shouldn't be happening. There may be voters that that will vote Democrat (against Harsdorf) in the next election, but are voting for her today because they don't like an election do-over.

Chennaul said...

Ya they called it while I was typing that..but sheesh...

That is complete bullshit.

Unions have spent tens of millions of dollars on this election. All we heard from the unions and teachers was RECALL! RECALL! RECALL! for months. And now the day is here.

Simply put, if the GOP wins 5 of 6, its a crushing defeat to the left in this state. And it basically squashes whatever little chance the left had of recalling Walker. And it will give other states trying to do the same thing the courage to do it and see it can be successful.

Thats because a big batch of Milwaukee County votes came in.

Darling's votes will come later from Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington Counties. They are almost always last in every election. And Darling will win those counties at least 2-1. She is still fine, based on what has come in so far.

DADvocate said...

The question is can Wisconsin survive the recall. The Dems care little about Wisconsin, only bedding their union nests and soaking the taxpayers. Too many may see it too late.

Anyone have a link to the AP precinct returns?

James said...

Way to go Washington County.

Jason said...

Saying on Twitter that the few precincts left in the King/Hopper race are likely Dem-leaning. So King may escape, but barely..which is a joke. Hopper should have been defeated easily.

In the end, the scorecard is likely gonna look 4-2 GOP. With 2 Dem recalls next week.

Dear Alpha,

If we thought there was any chance we'd lose here, do you think I would abandon Alhouse to blog elsewhere?

All your base are belong to us.

What's with all the democratic fish running?

Wow, just had to turn on MSNBC to check it out. I'm surprised to now know that I am living in a ultra-conservative, right-wing district here in the WI-32nd. I can't believe a Democrat could pull off this amazing upset over Kapanke.

They are lowering the bar..."if the Dems can win just 2 of these seats, it would be a political sunami."

Are we sure that having the public throw out recently elected Rs is an unmitigated victory for Rs?

Just sayin'

With Hopper out, I wonder if the Republicans can find someone with a little less personal baggage to run in 2012. Geesh, that is only next year.

MSNBC must think Ron Kind is a Republican.

If Darling takes Waukesha County by a similar number she won it by in 2008, she is going to have about a 4,000 vote lead here shortly.

EDIT: and remember that 2008 was the immaculation of Barack Obama. She could win it by more.

Titus said...

Are these positions full time and if so how much do they make.

Shake em Darling.

Kathy Nickolaus will come through again :)

This thread had a librul lamestream headline that unfairly raised expectations.

Could we all move to a new post where the title is "Will the WI GOP senators survive the recall by not losing three seats, thereby proving that Rs are good and Ds are bad"?

King wins by about 1200 votes.

The Dems should be ashamed about that. But Im sure it will be celebrated as a political tsunami against Scott Walker.

Jason--get in touch, man. What matters is who wins--not whether they should have won by more.

And by the way, Darling is going to lost. The parts of Waukesha County that go best for Republicans (Brookfield) are not in her district. She is behind by nearly 2000 votes and is going to have a lot of trouble making that up.

I do not take pleasure in this. But the Democrats are close to achieving their goal in the recalls.

This is so fun. And I don't even live in Wisconsin.

We should do this every Tuesday. There have to be more members of the state congress eligible for recall, right? How many Senate and House seats are there in Wisconsin?

WaPo at 11:36pm: According to local reports, Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus will not report for over an hour

So grab some coffee, make some popcorn. Not to get cocky, but wouldn't it be lovely if Waukesha pulled the same stunt they did before? Libtard heads exploding everywhere.

Tighter 'n a Texas tick in District 8! It's not over until it's over! Soon we back up the truck and unload the Waukesha votes. God - I hope they had a shirtload of turnout there.

LOL Thats a good one coming from a Dem, since all we hear from Dems when they win is how much they win by.

I think its you that needs to "get in touch". Darling, in 2008, won Waukesha County over her Dem opponent by about 5000 votes. She is not going to have any trouble at all. She is going to win with about a 52-48 margin.

Yes. Two Dems up next week.

Wouldn't it be priceless if the GOP fled the Illinois, just like the Flea-baggers did?

Good. Goose. Gander.

But they won't. They'll respect the results, even if they lose. Suckers.

Does anyone know how many recall petition signatures they got against Sheila Harsdorf? I think it was over 20k. I think they barely got that many people out to vote.

I am seein a final win for Darling by more than 2000 votes. Based on the turn out in Washington county she willamass more than enough votes from Waukesha to overcome anything left in Milwaukee County. Plus, as we saw in the Prosser election Milwaukee under performed the surbaban counties in turnout. If that happens here, Darling could win by 3000-4000

Daniel....antidotal stories coming out of SD10 is that the petition people were going door to door saying something like "will you sign a pledge to......something something". They didn't say "to recall Senator Harsdorf".

Plus things were different before we saW "WE......BREATHE......UUUUNNIIOOOONNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!"

Does Milwaukee have as I seem to remember, a number of "hollow districts' - in other words, districts that exist but have no voters?

Guys, guys guys!!!!

David you've even lost your grammar and it's near perfect.

You're typing like Al Pacino in Scarface..

She's going to lost!

Chu hear me chaquitas.....

******

Anyways let's bash MSNBC much more fun.

Par example.....

Did they actually try to sell these local state elections as some national foretelling of the coming 2012 elections?

Let me tell you how flipping' ironic that is.

MSNBC has become the 24/7 Chris Matthews Show...

At least last time I checked.

Chris Matthews' calling card to fame was that he was an aide to-

Tip O'Neill.

Tip O'Neill is most famous for this axiom-

All politics is local.

Yes, this is a sign that tse fever or whatever the hell Chris Matthews came down with has completely rotted his brain.

(Malaria-whatever...)
