"List of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition monsters."

#1 on the list of 100 Longest Entries on Wikipedia — a hilarious list that had me asking Who the hell is Larry Norman? and Fanny Crosby? And why all the fuss about Italian moths? And euphorbia?

Ribbentrop has a longer entry than Der Fuhrer?

Say it ain't so!

(do they mention his fling with the Duchess of Windsor?)

PS Fanny Crosby wrote Protestant hymns.

But should have worn Foster Grants.

Not much into Christian hymnody old or modern, eh?

Larry Norman, I know without clicking the link, is the guy who helped start contemporary Christian music. I think you'd like him. Total hippy guy.

Maybe she's Catholic.

Or Jewish.
(Cedar would love that)

Or Buddhist.
(y'know, Maharishi and all that... (or is that Hindu?))

Euphorbia is spurge, isn't it? Ha! I'm right.

#4 bothered me because they used the image of PBS for the entry listing public access stations. Not the same thing.

"You got gonorrhea on Valentine's Day." -- Larry Norman

Why Don't You Look into Jesus

That song is awesome. It would fit on a Dr. John album.

Yes

My son has contributed to that D&D entry on wikipedia.

Very big deal in his crowd.

And, yes, he is just figuring out that girls really do exist, so I figure the dice will pass down to the younger brother shortly.

The Monster Manual is a tome of epic proportions and might be critical to your survival when SHTF. What if you came up against a wight?

And here's the shortest Wikipedia entry: the list of Dungeons and Dragons players who have ever had sex.

Am I strange if I know who Larry Norman and Fanny Crosby are without the aid of Google?

A few years ago we were setting up the main sanctuary for a concert that evening. I mentioned to the youth minister (with whom I serve) "my best friend told me Larry Norman died today".

He said "who's Larry Norman?"

Whereupon members of the group who were performing that evening responded with incredulity, "You don't know who Larry Norman is?!? He's the father of Christian rock!"

Recently preached a whole sermon that riffs on a Larry Norman lyric "and he will roll away your stone". Got majorly good feedback on that one.

My point being that even a 30 year old Baptist youth minister didn't know who Larry Norman is. But he jolly well should have.

Larry Norman. Wow. I haven't heard that name since attending church youth group in high school. Gah.

World of Warcraft has dominated the online gaming industry for a number of years. It is based on D&D. It has 10 million subscribers at $15 a month. That's $150 million a month. You talk about your all time gross revenues for entertainment products!

Fanny Crosby-her songs and hymns written in the second half of the 19th century are still being sung in evangelical protestant churches today. A remarkable woman, a great Christian and an amazing talent. She holds a place in my heart and in my family's life.

They can afford to pay the $15 a month because they sure aren't spending any money on condoms.

Haha.

Can't believe I know Larry Norman and Fanny Crosby and the Professor doesn't.

But then, I can see how you missed Larry Norman. Outside your experience at that time of your life. But worte some cool songs and very innovastive at the time.

But not knowing Fanny ("Blessed Assurance" and 7,999+ others)Crosby -- that surprised me given that you know some things about Christianity that many of the more liberal flavor have missed.

I note several others have chided you gently ;-)

And yes, Fanny Crosby was a remarkable person.

Have to check the list and see who else is on it.

Mythus was what D&D could've been.

(So I'm egging him on. :) )

We never got into the 2nd edition. Even though I own all the books from every edition. The group I play with still fondly uses the 1st edition books. When you know the secret to killing trolls in the 1st edition Monster Manual, you can use it to fight off anything. KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!
