Josh Marshall was always a principled lefty, someone that at least tried to reason his way around his points and was shorter on invective and demonizing than most of his contemporaries on the left.
But with a comment like this, he's obviously going too far to the wingnut left. Someone that sees the heated arguments between Juan Williams and Bill Kristol, or Juan and Brit Hume and still believes that Juan is any sort of conservative, much less on the far right, is delusional and probably in need of therapy.
Funny, cause when Juan comes on fox he almost always parrots the liberal line (though, I'll admit in a less snarky tone than most liberals). So the mere appearance on Fox turns him into a closet conservative. And he dares to suggest there is one party rule at NPR. after being fired. That suddenly makes him right wing?
I love the Marshall quote from Pollo's link: Being president is hard. Being president two years into your first term is hard. And being at the center of the polarizing political storm — as Obama is today and Clinton was 16 years ago — tends to wipe the political genius and midas touch and all the other good stuff right off of you.
Strange that he'd skip over the intervening decade and a half without even a word for the troubles of Jacques Chirac or Gerhard Schroeder.
Gotta admit that his link is interesting. Tomaskey disses Juan Williams for being on Fox because what sort of non-conservative would appear on that channel. Don't look at the other channels to count the number of conservatives they let appear. Only look at Fox and diss the libs for even appearing they and then diss Fox for not being unbiased. Don't look at MSNBC and mention that the whole staff is white liberal extremists. Don't look at NBCABCCBSMSNBCCNNMTV and note that there are no conservatives at all. There don't need to be; all the news you need to hear is from the liberal perspectives.
The liberal mind is a terrible thing to behold. How anyone can believe anything they say is remarkable.
"Don't look at MSNBC and mention that the whole staff is white liberal extremists."
The staff of MSNBC are all white extremists doing exactly what their boss Jeffery Immelt tells them to do.
MSNBC is the public face of General Electric ... one of the world's largest conglomerates and whose shareholders are some of the the richest recipients of your tax dollars.
GE supports tax increases ... because they know they'll get the money. They then launder your tax dollars back to the Democrat Party in the form of campaign donations.
MSNBC "news analysts" therefore support tax increases because if they don't, they'll be taken off the air. And they know it.
Pretty simple really ... just follow the money.
If you buy GE washers and dryers or any other GE products then you deserve what you get.
No conference needed. Here's why Barack Obama can't fill a high school gym with supporters any longer:
1) He lied to liberals about ObamaCare. Barack Obama claimed he was against the individual mandate and that Hillary Clinton was wrong to support it. So liberals gave the nomination to Barack. But he was lying to them. Now progressives feel betrayed.
2) Obama lied to liberals about closing Guantanamo Bay. He claimed he'd shut it down within his first year in office by Presidential Directive. And so they voted for him because that's what they want him to do. But he was lying to them. They feel betrayed.
3) Barack Obama lied to liberals when he said he'd bring the troops home. Instead, he signed up 30,000 more to put boots on the necks of brown people in Afghanistan. He's expanded the war to Pakistan and is now ordering the deaths of people with drone aircraft/missiles. Barack Obama lied to liberals to trick them into voting for him. They naturally feel betrayed.
4) Barack Obama promised he'd end government spying on Americans. Instead, he's expanded the Patriot Act and upped the ante by illegally ordering the United States military to murder an American citizen with no due process. Barack Obama tricked liberals and progressives into supporting his candidacy and now they feel betrayed.
I could go on and on and on but I think the point is that if you fuck people over enough times, they won't show up for your rallies and they won't vote for you.
Barack Obama tricked liberals. They feel betrayed and so they're not going to ever vote for him again.
Juan Williams never says right wing views, so I doubt that he has any in him. His thought crimes were limited to the non-verbal. His easy friendship with and acceptance of conservative friends like O'Reilly grated on the "Us vs. Them" Ultimate Fighting Cage mentality behind the MSNBC success story. His new boss lady at NPR was a CNN trained manager. She saw Juan fraternizing with the enemy as a diplomat on a mission...but has become all war now and diplomats are baggage NPR does not anticipate ever needing again.
Every time I think about making an incisively cutting and devastatingly brilliant comment about the intolerance liberals are displaying right now...
...I remember that it's basically saying that they're boycotting the most-watched news network to preserve the ideological purity of radio that has to get a government subsidy to survive.
In other words, the two Goth weirdos in high school want it to be known that they absolutely will NOT date the most popular cheerleaders.

"Only look at Fox and diss the libs for even appearing they and then diss Fox for not being unbiased. "
Yeah, this is quite a trick: attack Fox for not having liberal views, then attack any liberal who dares go on Fox which might give Fox the liberal views they say are missing.
They hate the devil but they sure don't want the devil to repent.
And the reason must be that they need the devil always, so that they can show us how they are the saviors.
(I note that Christian conservatives who actually believe in the existence of the devil can attach said devil without attacking their fellow citizens. Secular lefties can't. Getting at the devil for a lefty always involves attacking another person.)
Quayle said: Yeah, this is quite a trick: attack Fox for not having liberal views, then attack any liberal who dares go on Fox which might give Fox the liberal views they say are missing.
That brought to mind this veru fresh headline fromthe Boston Herald: "Muslims Fear Juan Williams' Ouster Will Fan Hostility
You just can't please them. Muslims are always the victim. When Juan Williams remarked that he felt some fear when he saw Muslims in Muslim dress on planes (remember 9/11?) his ouster was demanded. Now that he has been ousted, Muslims claim to be afraid that their demands have been met.
You gotta love the way a bunch of mostly Jewish, well-off Manhattan-DC-axis pastyfaces nominate themselves to decide who is and who isn't authentically "black." And the way a bunch of weenies who have neither seen 30 nor ever broken a story get to decide who's an authentic "journalist."
Poor Juan, laboring under those delusions all these years until the highly verbal, right-diploma sunken chests of Journolist straightening him out.
There's nothing a poseur like Josh Marshall treasures more than authenticity. He gets it by osmosis, when his deep concern opens up his membranes to the experience of "the other."
Qualye: attack Fox for not having liberal views, then attack any liberal who dares go on Fox which might give Fox the liberal views they say are missing.
They hate the devil but they sure don't want the devil to repent.
The "liberal" "progressive" left (except that liberals aren't and progressives don't) is going all in on this one bad hand called the 2010 midterms, trying to desperately to fill an inside straight, and willing to sacrifice all their credibility, self-respect, decency and hard-win behind the scenes influence just to stay in the game for one more hand.
Josh Marshall was always a principled lefty, someone that at least tried to reason his way around his points and was shorter on invective and demonizing than most of his contemporaries on the left.
Yeah, you know they're done when it's apparent that politics is no longer about ideas and policy, but it's just about the game. It's just sad to see this kind of commentary: all Marshall cares about is whether a person is on his team or on the other team.
Juan Williams never says right wing views, so I doubt that he has any in him. His thought crimes were limited to the non-verbal.
I think this is what bugs the shit out of the left. He's a liberal gadfly to the left, kind of like Mickey Kaus. No one could plausibly say that Kaus and Williams are not liberals, but they train their guns on other liberals, which drives most Democrats nuts.
It is interesting that in the early days of TPM Marshall was considered honest. I think blogging does polarize one's views so many bloggers become more radical over time. But Josh's branding was a lie from day one.

Josh Marshall hasn't written a true sentence in years.
Highly predictable and lacking in nuance, as usual. It's not called Talking Points Memo for nothing.

Too funny.
The problem I had with Juan is that he was a weak sister. His arguments were more like John Marshall's than Mara Liason's.
Josh Marshall was always a principled lefty,
Its the hatred. He's behaving like an angry metrosexual bitch.
Dan Riehl tweeted this piece about Josh Marshall which I thought very perceptive and timely.
Like The Zero said, the Lefties are the racists (sexists/homophobes/etc.) they've been waiting for.
Yup, double down.
Nothing, not even a rabid right-wing-nut is as bad as a liberal who doesn't submit.
Josh Marshall was always a principled lefty
He used to be, but high school changes people.

Josh Marshall? Talk about closeted.

Joshua Micah Mackey Paisely Marshall clearly never watched Juan Williams on Brit Hume's show. Juan's not even center-left, he's left.

Shorter Chase:
Josh Marshall's opinion of Juan should be 'between him and his psychiatrist.'

Michael, you made me laugh, dare I say it, out loud.
I stopped reading TPM two laptops ago (last time he was on my bookmarked list) when I could predict everything he said.
Qualye: attack Fox for not having liberal views, then attack any liberal who dares go on Fox which might give Fox the liberal views they say are missing.

This.
Talking Points Memo? The very name of the blog telegraphs that its purpose is partisan hackwork, not honest analysis.
Don't think we haven't noticed.
What is a Josh Marshall?
I'm a conservative. As such, I know wingnuts. I've worked with wingnuts. Juan Williams is no wingnut.
Josh Marshall on the other hand, well...is simply not as smart as he'd like to think.
Joshua Micah Mackey Paisely Marshall
Polite golf clap.
And for NPR: No more living a lie as an advocacy campaign playing a fake news organization on the low end of the dial.
Josh Marshall was always a principled lefty, someone that at least tried to reason his way around his points and was shorter on invective and demonizing than most of his contemporaries on the left.
