Snowed shirtless.

At yesterday's big Bascom Hill snowball fight between the lake shore dorms and the southeast dorms. 3,000 students, including these guys:

That photo is by Isabel Alvarez of The Daily Cardinal. Lots more pics at the link, not all of which are by Alvarez, but here's another cool Alvarez picture — of a guy using a snowball to stanch a bloody nose.

You've got to love those endlessly hardy Wisconsin students. It's really quite wonderful! It says here that was the "first-ever full day of canceled classes" — crazy! — and what better time to show up on campus?
“We just don’t have what it takes to win a snowball fight,” said Greg Stravinski, a junior and Witte Hall resident who fought for the southeast dorms. Stravinski admited the lake shore dorms easily won the fight.

“Southeast comes out stylish,” he said. “We’re all prettied up and the second the snow starts flying we get worried ... lake shore is always there until it’s over.”

Most of the snowball attendees wore standard winter attire, but some of the more enthusiastic students donned goggles, helmets, shields, gorilla and penguin costumes, gigantic slingshots and shovels.

One student from Witte left all his winter gear behind and charged Bascom Hill in only his boots and underwear on a $45 bet.
$45? I bet there are many guys here who would do it just for fun.

There were also huge snowmen all over town. Check out the video of the Great Snowman Wall of Gilman Street (and what happened when the snowplow truck came through):

More reports of snow-related Madison doings here — like those guys who rolled a 10 foot tall snowball out into University Avenue.

Saw this on the news this morning and wondered what happened to all those anti-war, peace-loving students that UWM is so famous for?

Too fun. Wish I was 20, again.

As a gay man, I am in favor of more shirtless Wisconsin male undergrads appearing on this blog. Oooh la-la!

Yesterday was not the first ever winter storm related cancellation of classes at UW. It happened twice while was an undergrad at UW 1969-1973.

The first time, I was living two blocks off campus. The closing announcement was made over local radio. The bars near campus opened early to accomodate the students - the drinking age for beer was 18 at the time.

The second time UW cancalled class I was living near Westowne, quite a distance from campus. I rode a city bus to campus to avoid having to park my car. When I arrived at campus the admin announced that classes were being cancelled due to a very heavy snow fall. The city pulled it's busses off the street, so I spent the next three hours walking/hitching back to my apartment. My (new) wife worked at St Marys Hospital and was needed at work. The Red Cross sent a volunteer on a snow mobile to pick her up and take her to work. Several pregnant moms were also taken to the hospital via snow mobile that day. The storm was so bad that most city plow trucks were either stuck or ordered back to their garage until the storm let up.

What's a student made horny by the snow to do?

This was their Tiananmen Square.

wv-"sured" = what people do after you tell them snow makes you horny, they say "sure it does"

UWM = UW-Milwaukee.

Traffic this morning was dreadful. Boy are the roads bad. I read that John Nolen Drive, outbound, is closed because it's a sheet of ice. That little hill on Regent where you turn left onto Monroe was shut down this morning by a stuck garbage truck in the left turn lane and a van against the curb in the other lane.

Beautiful walk down the bike path this morning.

I'm having a late-70s flashback: The national news said that following yesterday's snowfall, Madison was due to experience 0 or below, with a windchill of 20 below. We got several doses of that one-two punch in the 78-79 winter.

Further, even after I tried to keep the engine warm at night, with the aid of a trouble light and some fiberglass batting, my water-cooled VW would not turn over in those conditions. I suggest garaging the tt if at all possible.

That's an adorable quote. A stylish concession!

Oh, please. Where is their manly vigor?

When I was in Boy Scouts we used to strip naked and compete to see who could dig the deepest hole in the snow using just our boners.

America's youth has gotten soft.

It's all those goshdarned, newfangled electronic thingamajigs, I tell ya!

I suspect the reaction of Bissage's scout troop was atypical even for his day.

Looks like it was fun even after somebody got hurt. Something to remember.

That DOES look like fun. I took off work early yesterday (working retail, and NOBODY was coming in -- we hardly needed one person here, much less two) and went and made a snow fort with my little brother. (Sore today.) It was an impressive feat of snow-engineering, but would have been made lots better by parties of warring college students bearing snowballs, that's for sure.

The downside is that today I am sore all over and feel about 15 years older. I'm not sure where my dad got the stamina to build large snow forts with us kids every year.

Did the snow plows get rear-ended a lot before they put all those lights on the back?

You should install a "radiator hose heater" on your car. I have two tractors and my pickup truck with them. Plug them in, and you're good to go. O'Reilly Auto Parts, NAPA Auto Parts will have them. Google "radiator hose heater".

MayBee: LOL doesn't begin to cover my reaction to your comment. I now have a "vision" of the sound of your voice which I may never, ever be able to wipe from my mind's ear. And when I think of reading your future tweets and comments with that voice in my mind, it damn near brings tears to my eyes.

If that snowball is 10 ft in diameter, then all those students are 9 feet tall.

Just sayin'.

Women are snow pussies.

And these boyz are hot. I have to admit having a fetish for seeing hot young men in states of undress cavorting in the snow.
