"Mass Communication for the Masses: The Power of Weblogs"
THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 2007

Panelists will share their thoughts on the power of blogs in creating communities, influencing local and national politics, and the role they think that blogs will play in the 2008 election. Finally, they will discuss the conflict between weblogs and main stream media.

A panel next week at Dartmouth.
If you're in the area, you might be interested in attending. If not, you can bet I'll blog about it.

The one thing that women, whether liberal, moderate or conservative can agree upon is that a proper lady never hints at her age by disclosing graduation dates.
Ah, this is sure to be a great conference. Weblogs and indie-whatever are THE hot topic right now.
Invisible: I didn't graduate from UW. I work here. The graduation dates are for the students and, for Simon and Hinderaker, an indidation that they are graduates of Dartmouth. That's the pattern. It's not by sex.
Best wishes and I hope it goes well for you.
Best wishes, and---what is the salary for a panelist?
Peace, Maxine

Ask Hinderaker why the boys at Powerline don't link to the "conservative" Althouse blog. Heh.
Make sure to tell Roger Simon that the creation of Pajamas Media is now a famous quasi-partnership-breach question of everyone's favorite (and soon departing) BizOrgs I prof.
Hahahahaha Pajamas Media.
Er... I mean, good luck to Roger. Yes.
Will you attempt to explain the Vortex, or mention "insulting upwards" as a ploy to gain attention? Do you think that you will be attacked for your political affiliations, or lack thereof? I would be very interested in hearing how you think you have influenced political thought through your blog. You write often of "what you are trying to do here" but I don't feel that I have a good understanding of what that is. Maybe I just haven't been reading long enough.
I assume that you will have a list of points to cover - will you share those with us in advance, or will we have to wait for the after-action reports? It could be useful for you to see how your readers respond to your points, although you may have a lot of good examples of that already. Right now it seems like your blog has just about the ideal size community of readers to get a lot of good discussion going without being ruined by inanity and cheerleading. In reading blogs, the size of the commenting community seems to be an important factor. "Too many cooks" can spoil a good blog comment soup.
What a panel! Wish I could go.
Well, I must say that the folks at my alma mater do know how to construct an interesting panel! Wurly's right about what to expect in Hanover. Not only are there dogs everywhere, but they are permitted to attend classes and panels and such, as you can infer from this college regulation.
Are you driving straight through? It's only 1,103 miles from Madison to Dartmouth. You'll arrive just in time to catch the end of New England's Mud Season. A not-to-be-missed time of the year for the depressed, second only to February in its charm. Be sure to bring your Zoloft. Leaden skies, 40-degree weather, and muck up to your ankles beckon you!
You should also also be sure to pack a warm parka and a sturdy pair of shorts, as you may need them, often on the same day, perhaps at the same time.
Things get better in a month or so. The black flies should be out by then.
Welcome to New England!
Theo: I can't drive this time. It's not spring break anymore, but I'm a little tired of driving right now. But I do have to rent a car and drive an hour to get to the place from the airport, which seems pretty weird.
Hoo boy! We're looking at a snow storm tonight!
That, and maybe some rain later in the weekend, should make for a soggy Boston Marathon on the 16th, not to mention Patriots' Day, with all the reenactors up to their cartridge boxes in muck.
If this had happened in '75, both Paul Revere and the British Regulars would have been stuck in the goo, and we might be running a marathon in Boston on Dominion Day instead.
There is no plaything of the Fates more fickle than our weather.
Welcome to New England!
A.Althouse: "But I do have to rent a car and drive an hour to get to the place from the airport, which seems pretty weird."
Where are you flying to? An hour seems like a fast trip from Manchester, or a very slow one from West Leb.
Nah, it's about an hour from Manchester to Hanover. (And 15 minutes from W. Leb., but only one airline flies there with only a few flights and its very expensive.)
