Can you believe that an article titled "Why Oscar Attendees Will Be Wearing an Orange American Flag on Sunday"...

... does not explain why orange is the chosen color?

I get that it's an "anti-gun violence" thing, but why orange? And why an orange American flag? Why change the color of the flag, and why change it to orange? I mean, Trump is said to be orange, so... I don't get it. You can't mean to be saying Trump's America, so what's up?

I click through to People and get only: "Orange is the color of solidarity in the fight against gun violence in America." So, that's just restating the question.

I googled around a lot until I figured out that "The Wear Orange campaign began in 2015" — before Trump became President. Orange was the color that some people chose on one occasion to honor one shooting victim. Their reason? Maybe there was no reason at all. I'm still not seeing any.

Elsewhere, I see (from a year ago), advice on how Trump could become less orange (because orange seems to be a skin color that you can criticize people for having and give them unsolicited advice about changing):
Twice a day on Saturday and on Sunday, he should take Arm & Hammer Baking Soda and fresh lemon juice—both lightening agents—and mix in a bowl ‘til it resembles baby food. Using his little hands, he should apply this cleansing salve all over his face and let it set for 10 minutes. Rinse and repeat, morning and night. If he follows my instructions, it will lift the orange to reveal his actual skin tone.
Yes, that's skin lightening advice (in Vanity Fair). How can that be okay? Trump brings chaos.

"Yes, that's skin lightening advice (in Vanity Fair). How can that be okay? Trump brings chaos."

Maybe they got the skin-lightening regimen from Sammy Sosa.

From a Newsweek article:

"Apparently, Sosa has kept up his use of the cream over the years, which has led him to appear even whiter than he did in 2009...

Not very many celebrities have been so open about their skin bleaching habits as Sosa, which is most likely because the controversial beauty trend is viewed as a form of racial self-loathing and has been considered to promote subliminal messages of white skin being the most beautiful skin.

However, plenty of them have been accused of using creams to lightening their complexion, including the aforementioned king of pop Jackson and his sister La Toya Jackson.

Back in December 2016, rapper Lil Kim fought off rumors of skin bleaching after a photo of her appearing lighter than usual surface online. The year before, Beyonce and Rihanna were targeted with skin whitening accusations, as well as Jennifer Lopez and Eva Longoria, after they all donned seemingly lighter skin in photos and during red carpet appearances...

In West and South Africa, where a 2016 New York Times report said some 70 percent of women used lightening cream, the world of skin lightening is a multi-billion dollar industry. Following years of billboard ads tagged with ways for women to achieve "perfect white" skin, Ghana's government banned lightening creams and lotions. However, the country has struggled to remove the products from shelves...

In Asia, the skin whitening industry is worth over $13 billion, according to a BBC report. Historically, milky white skin in many Asian countries has been a symbol of nobility, wealth and an aristocratic lifestyle."

This brings to mind the earlier post on Drag.

So bleaching your skin is "a form of racial self-loathing" but a man dressing as a woman is celebratory? Would it not be gender self-loathing?

Are men in drag then misandrous?

The Germans have a word for this.

The left is already starting to worry about the November election.

For Mr. Trump’s opposition, this premise — to say nothing of the question of whether his campaign conspired with Russia or merely benefited from its manipulations — has thickened the faint stink of illegitimacy that would hover over any president who lost the popular vote, supercharging policy disagreements into nearly existential threats to democracy. The regular cycles of consternation spun up by Mr. Trump’s unconventional approach to the job of being president help keep that wound raw.

Bush also lost the popular vote but the world began yesterday for these people.

Your persistent fear of being "disarmed" - (in churches? Courtrooms? Prisons? Malls?) - speaks directly to how much you fixate on violence. It's a dead psychological giveaway. Most of us don't think about your guns all that much, other than for how much you love them - to an abnormal extent that surpasses any love you could possibly have for the lives of the American people and children menaced every day by them - and how easily available you want to make them to every man, woman and child. A gun in every hand pointed at every other American - this is really the Republican credo and vision for this country. It's pretty sick. We understand that you're not capable of better, though. It's all about the money. Good thing large corporations saner and more ethical than you have enough clout to do battle with the despicable NRA and put an end to stocking the products of your and their addiction.

What civilian use do you see for that thing? How many civilian, legitimate "acts" has it been used in? How many mass shootings has it been very helpful against, these things that Tony Soprano was impressed with for being able to shoot off tree branches with them?

The only answer I can see is for security purposes, possibly - and only in highly specialized situations. Guarding vaults or the like. Extremely limited situations and that's because your permissive gun-nut enabling regime has allowed the criminals to arm themselves so very well. It's like how back in the days of Prohibition some cops may have(?) used submachine guns, but that's before laws ending the sale of Saturday Night Specials (upheld by fellow psychopath Scalia in his famous Heller ruling) were enacted.

But you've allowed these semi-automatics to proliferate so freely and copiously that it will be tough to walk that back. But the point remains about how useless they are to anything other than overpowering (if you can show a successful example, even) the similarly powerful weaponry that you've encouraged every American to buy - as if they don't have normal hobbies and lives to attend to that just might get in the way of something so childish and and frivolous as playing 24/7 cops and robbers.

So a gun-free zone is an act of violence? Well, you are finally getting it, dude. Now if it's hateful of me to wish you in one, why would you want children forced into them?

Things that make you say "hmmmmm?"!

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Oh, right. So "assault rife/weapon" is just a simple matter of branding.

Well, that won't change. You're admitting that you've failed to find a civilian use for them, as I asked you to do.

You gun nuts are really bad at doing your homework, aren't you? Guess you didn't get to gun down enough teachers.

Let there be no mistake: The only self-defense these cunts are about is defending against the psychological harm they feel when not arming themselves. They psychologically assault themselves by feeding fantasies of being under attack by the government or every other American and just need high-powered firearms as an expensive anxiolytic and medicament against something that is unlikely to happen and that they are even less likely to use to stop in the process.

Guns are simply a medication for your disease, which is a paranoid fear of being surrounded by violence that you cannot overpower. But they are the wrong medication. Your disease is psychological, and part of an even greater social disease. You fear violence so frequently and so irrationally because you fantasize about violence and feel impotent in achieving anything important in life without it.

The purpose of AR-15s, and any weapon really, is at its root a political one. That is to serve as, or materially facilitate, the ultimate sanction on a government that is so unwise as to irrevocably alienate a well-armed portion of the public.

Any personal reason - self protection, hunting - is incidental and trivial.

And the purpose of those weapons (and I think AR-15s and the like are much more symbolic than practical here), should things come to that, is the good old guerrilla control of the population, not some militia marching off in ranks to fight the loyalist military.

It is in order to make government impossible, for the government to lose their loyalists and partisans to intimidation, to be forced to retaliate and oppress the population through their reaction, to have to separate and guard their functionaries and loyalists, and overall create general chaos. It will be a very very dirty war, and potentially of enormous scope. The models are the IRA and the Irish troubles, the Viet Cong, Iraq.

Merging the 18th century and the 20th/21st, that is the political purpose of an armed public.

Talk about a feeble, gun fetish-addled mind. Go poll teachers. Ask them how many of them see their mission and purpose as being remotely related to the job descriptions of "security guard," "cop," or "NRA lobbyist." It kind of doesn't fit. Ruby Ridge and Waco led to considerable paranoia by the public and Bill Clinton added to it with ignoring the African bombings of embassies. The Cole should have been the last straw but 9.11 was still coming.

Some of us would still like to know who the third man in the Oklahoma City bombing was.

So a gun for every one is not enough. Maybe a two or three gun per person ratio will resolve the problem.

It's the guns that matter to Republicans in America. Not the people. More of them than are willing to carry them.

People need to be made more compliant with the guns - I mean, with Republican gun priorities.

"What did the shooter do to you? There, there. It's all right. Let me gently caress you."

"I will now pick you up and ward off all the others. You are safe and sound now in my gentle, loving hands, Mr. AR-15. No one threatening to remove you from this scene... or society."

"I love you more than anything (or anyone) else here."
