For much of the week, the Iowa Democratic Party and its chair Troy Price have taken the brunt of the blame for the failed reporting app and the fiasco it created for Monday’s first-in-the-nation caucuses.

The spectacle of the beleaguered and abandoned state party leader has frustrated a number of his fellow state party chairs, leading some of them to conclude Perez has sought to distance himself from the crisis and scapegoat Price in the process.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez announced on Thursday that the party would split up candidates by random selection and host debates on consecutive nights if there were too many candidates.... Perez said he didn’t want any voters to feel that the party was toying with the debate or debate schedule to help out certain candidates. Perez is taking a different approach from what the Republican Party did during the 2016 primary when it faced a similar surge of candidates. Faced with 17 primary candidates, the GOP decided to have one prime-time debate with the highest polling candidates and another debate on the same night with the lower polling candidates, often referred to as the 'undercard debate.' Those debates attracted fewer viewers and some campaigns felt that the secondary status of their debates was the party tagging them with a loser label."

"A loser label"? Everyone's starting to sound like Trump.

ADDED: There has to be some cut-off mechanism before that random business, otherwise vanity candidates and various celebrities would have the power to bump the most prominent Senators.

DNC Chairman Tom Perez routinely uses the word "shit" in speeches.

Politico reports:

With children on stage behind him, Perez told an audience in Las Vegas this weekend that Trump "doesn't give a shit about health care."

Perez, President Barack Obama's former labor secretary, made similar comments earlier this year. "They call it a skinny budget, I call it a shitty budget," Perez said in Portland, Maine.

You could at least pretend to want to talk to me, Tom. That was such a radical subject-line-to-body-of-the-text switcheroo, Tom, it wounded my sense of belonging. Not that I had any, but you didn't know that. Because you never take the time to chat with me, Tom.

Do you see what's so funny? Why is Ellison referred to as "a liberal from Minnesota"? Yeah, where's Tom Perez from? Ah. New York. Why isn't he called "a liberal from New York"?

NPR quotes Hispanic lawmakers saying Hillary Clinton needs to pick a VP with "sizzle."

With "sizzle" apparently meaning Hispanic.

I found that embarrassing. I know I'm perceiving and expressing that from my identity as a member of a non-sizzling ethnic group, but why is that kind of talk not considered unacceptable ethnic stereotyping?

The 2 lawmakers, both from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, both talked about "sizzle" and the only specific person they were referring to was Labor Secretary Tom Perez. This guy:



Nothing against the man, but there's no reason to look at him and think of "A hissing sound, esp. one produced by the action of frying or roasting; also, broiling heat." (That's the OED definition of "sizzle.")
