A beautiful, peaceful day here in Northern Calunicornia today. One would almost think this state had its stuff together.

Hilarious - to me - breakdown of the Senate Race in Mississipppi. Colum the black Democrat has a slight lead and is forecasted to win. But the comedy comes in the demographics.

Blacks -91 percent D.
Black women 99 percent D.
White men - 21 percent D
White Women - 33 percent D.

The only reason its a close race is because whites outnumber blacks 2-1.

Perspective in photos is funny, the crescent moon is never that small when I look at it with naked eye.

Prayer request. I could use some spiritual help. If any believers feel like helping me, thank you.

I know the moon is 0.5 degrees wide and a pencil eraser held at arms length will cover the full moon but I see it as bigger.

So I have a religious question for the usual suspects here:

Could Jesus see angels?

This is prompted by The Chosen's latest teaser for their new season, which starts the 16th.

https://youtu.be/05HgLbWet8c?si=ctUVcneCqhVkghAG

In the teaser, Jesus is about to be arrested in Gethsemane. Three warrior angels jump onto the walls of the garden, visible only to JC, and prepared to counterattack the Temple guards and Roman soldiers.

JC looks up at them and silently shakes his head 'no.'

This scene is of course non-Biblical. But it sort of riffs on JC's statement that he could ask the Father for twelve legions of angels to defend him.

A lot of people have been focusing on the aesthetics of the angels. I immediately had a Christological concern:

JC the man has perfect faith. Which means he does not have knowledge. He believes the angels can appear to defend him. But for this to be faith, he must have no actual experience with angels.

Of course, Christ is dual-natured: he is also The Son, Who is always with angels.

The paradox of the dual nature doctrine is that JC must simultaneously hang out with angels and have no actual knowledge of them. We will not resolve this paradox in this world. But I think that however you pin down the dual-natures doctrine, it does not anticipate pre-death JC waving off angels.

Also, JC has to feel the full sense of abandonment that we as humans feel in extremis. Angels on the walls ready to pierce some scuti are not abandonment.

(A contrary non-biblical scene, from Kazantzakis's Last Temptation of Christ, has JC seeing his Roman killers as angels hammering in the nails, then thinking "God is crucifying me!" Also some problems there, but more in keeping with the genuine human emotions he must have been feeling.

Interestingly, the actual gospels have lots of scenes of JC with demons, and with Satan himself. They all know exactly Who and What He is. And He can recognize them and of course command them.

But angels? The disputed line about angels comforting him after he sweats blood, and the undisputed but very vague line about angels ministering to him after his desert fast and temptation by Satan. No detailed information. The desert ministration could just be dropping off some food and water around the bend of a wadi.

Finally, nothing Christological, but: right before the arrest, during his bloody-sweat prayer session, JC says "Not My will, but Thine" to the Father. He resolves to go through with the Passion. So why would angels show up unbidden to defend him? Seems like they are not following the Father and Son's wills.

I dunno, what do you all think? CC, JSM

St Croix, I was writing from before you put out your prayer request. Sorry to drown it out with Bible nerdiness. The most important thing is that all will be well (Julian of Norwich). But perhaps some theological nerdery will distract you from your problems for a bit? Again, I know that all will be well for you. CC, JSM

Message for vibe bandit

This week I've felt like my world is a sacred and beautiful space. And an amazing, joyful gift. And a dark, and scary universe where nobody cares, and people glare at you on the street.

I can't prove "vibes" scientifically but I've definitely felt them. From women, from strangers, from music, from dogs, from a sunset, from the beach. There is no right or wrong with vibes. And thinking won't help you. There are good vibes, bad vibes, and no vibes. But man oh man, our world is an interesting place. I want to share the good news of Christ. But I also want to keep my mouth shut and my head down. I'm hoping for some Good Vibrations

God's peace, brother.

St. Croix--I don't know what you are going through, but you have my prayers. For what that is worth. Hang in there.

I have not seen anyone on this site posting ill will towards Senator Chris Murphy who recently had a stroke. A marked difference from our friends on the left.

Saint Croix…
You are loved by God and me and other humans you may not even know. Don’t despair, God knows what you need. I will of course pray that whatever it is that has you feeling low will be healed. I like to think of earth with millions of bright little lights that are human prayers going up to heaven. What a beautiful sight that must be to God who loves us.

Don’t forget Saint Croix, that Inga from the Althouse blog loves you, you have a good soul, I can feel it.
