"The Justice Department charged two former FBI officials with lying to Congress about an investigation around a laptop belonging to former president Joe Biden’s son Hunter."

WaPo reports (gift link).

In 2020, Floris and Benavides briefed Republican lawmakers about the laptop as part of a congressional investigation into Hunter Biden. Sen. Chuck Grassley (Iowa), then the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, claimed that the FBI officials gave that briefing as a way to frame the investigation as Russian disinformation....

Snaky convenient deceptive language. Soviet, even.

A far-left Federal judge will let them off. But its good they got charged.

Lying in service of a political agenda is nothing new, nor is it new to see gov't agents, including some at the FBI, engaging in it. Leaks of grand jury stuff in major criminal cases typically comes from gov't sources (it's almost never helpful to the defendant). So, it's important to see consequences for such behavior where the circumstances make the lying criminal. But it's also true that lying for political purposes is a bipartisan phenomenon. Anyone in DC cheering on this prosecution should take a hard look in the mirror -- that old proverb about 'removing the mote in your own eye first' comes to mind.

Once the Democrats are back in power, it’s gonna be “Russia, Russia, Russia!” Non stop, they are as propagandized into that war as heavily as old boomer evangelicals are in the Iran war. Ordinary Americans can’t win.

Wow! FBI official actually wrote in an email they were running a “shadow government” to keep the public from knowing about China’s election meddling in 2020. Kash Patel will not pursue this case.

DOJ sues to block Alaska election results if GOP incumbent loses ~ Axios

Super Intelligence is drowning in Lake America? Here we go. First of many challenges to the 2026 election results from Republicans who will refuse to accept the results if they lose.

If Martha Stewart can be sent to jail for lying to the Feds, why can't these two jokers?

Will refuse to an accept the results if Democrats cheat. No more 2020 doggo, which is surely healthy for our democracy.

The whole laptop/Russian disinformation was such a blatant absurdity that I’m surprised the Donks ever used it. Nevertheless, it’s been a gift that keeps on giving. Any Prog can be reduced to spluttering insensibility at the mere suggestion that they were ever stupid enough to believe it.

I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing, because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing is frowned upon... you know, cause I've worked in a lot of government agencies, and I tell you, people do that all the time."

The Republican faithful have been listening to the RINOs since 2024 yelling 'where are the investigations, where are the indictments, where are the arrests ! ! !'. It would appear they are here, and what a coincidence, it's time to vote.

It would be perfectly terrible to have to read that the Justice Department prosecutors may yet manage to nail every guilty creep's gonad to the wall, esp those of Wray, McCabe, Comey and Mueller.

The wheels of justice grind slowly but may they finally grind, period. And why leave out commie-voting Brennan.

Richard Dolan--do you really doubt for a moment that any FBI official working for Kash Patel who lied to a Democrat-controlled congressional committee would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law--in a highly partisan DC court?
Were you asleep during the first Trump administration?

It’s important for the justice system to protect the other branches of government, like when Clinton lied to a federal judge.

The owner of the computer shop, John Paul Mac Isaac, approached the FBI after Hunter failed to pick up the device, and was the rebuffed. Wikipedia sez: "Three weeks before the 2020 United States presidential election, the New York Post published a front-page story that presented emails from the laptop, alleging they showed corruption by Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential nominee and Hunter Biden's father."

Sometime after that the FBI got interested. Mac Isaac had done a backup of the hard drive as is customary for computer repairs. "Forensic analysis later authenticated some of the emails from the laptop, including both emails used by the Post in their initial reporting." It was the real deal and the FBI refused to do due diligence.

IEE:

Here's the rest of the story:

Trump says he ordered DOJ suit to block Alaska Senate race certification if Republican loses

"The Department of Justice sued Alaska to block the state from certifying the winner of its upcoming U.S. Senate election if incumbent Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan loses.

The lawsuit cites potential voter confusion from having another candidate, Daniel J. Sullivan, on the ballot.

The DOJ says that might help Democrat Mary Peltola defeat the incumbent Sullivan in what is expected to be a close contest that could determine if Republicans retain their Senate majority."

Deep in the article, CNBC finally gets around to this:

"The DOJ’s suit alleges that Daniel J. Sullivan’s “sole purpose” of running for the Senate “is to benefit the Peltola campaign by reducing the number of votes for Senator Sullivan.” Sullivan first registered as a Republican earlier this year. He previously was a member of the Alaska Independence Party."

This is Claire McCaskill-level election manipulation. She's the Missouri Senator who won by paying for ads to boost Todd Akin's run on the Republican side:
HowI helped Todd Akin win - so I could defeat him

Dear Democratic Party: change your behavior, or change your name.

MadTownGuy:
The FBI had the laptop in 2019, and presumably knew right away that it was genuine. If revealed then it might have prevented a senile candidate from running (or being nominated). By the fall of 2020 deep staters in the FBI, and their friends, knew that the other side (I.e., the campaign of the president they were nominally working for) had a duplicate of the laptop. So they groomed credulous social media and legacy media hacks to be ready for a story that would really be “disinformation” from Russia. The scheme worked, with a little help from 51 former intelligence officials.

One could look at this as to what it tells us about deep state bias in the FBI, or one could look at what political points might get scored.

We are in the year 2026, and we know the FBI did not, in 2020, forensically compare the Rudy Giuliani laptop with the one obtained directly from John Paul Mac Isaac, and we also know that when introducing various devices into evidence at trial, the Cellebrite reports were substantially different. These are not hash matches. They are not the same device.

On August 6, 2020, FLORIS and BENAVIDES provided two separate defensive briefings to Senators Grassley and Johnson related to intelligence coordinated through the ODNI. Floris Tr. 23:13–24:1. During the briefings, FLORIS and BENAVIDES focused on potential Russian disinformation. Floris Tr. 28:20–29:6. When the House Judiciary Committee asked for specifics on the content of the defensive briefs during her transcribed interview, FLORIS testified that she could not get into specifics because the contents of the briefing were not FBI information—she directed the Committee to the ODNI.

But of course it is. Maxwell was Mossad. It’s a family business. It’s likely that his daughter was somehow tied to them. We still don’t really know where Epstein’s money came from. Mossad is a likely candidate. I find it interesting that most of those caught in his web were Democrats, which is still the party of most Jews in this country. Epstein too was ethnically Jewish, so could operate as a MOT (member of the tribe).
