-------------------------------------------------------------------

Trump and MAGA are terrified of losing Iowa. I live here. I know what is going on. Iowa is about as Red as you can get. Trump carried Iowa by over 13% in the last election. Trump Republicans own the Iowa Governorship, the Iowa Senate, the Iowa House, and every single state-wide elected office except for one. Trump/MAGA have also appointed every single member of the Iowa Supreme Court. They run absolutely everything. Yet Trump is making TWO campaign visits to Iowa in the last 2 weeks of the upcoming disastrous mid-term elections. Why? Because a huge Red State like Iowa is bleeding because of Trump. All Trump/MAGA can do it to try to stop the blood flow from hemorrhaging. Republican candidates here are even disavowing Trump on his Iran War and the ridiculously high prices of gas and diesel that Iowa farmers must pay during this harvest season. Trump/MAGA PACS are even pulling all funding to Trump Republican candidates here. Trump/MAGA are conceding defeat. Powerline Blog today is literally BEGGING Trump/MAGA to NOT campaign in Minnesota because of Trump's HUGE negatives. Trump made the horrendous mistake to make the mid-term elections all about Trump/MAGA. He and MAGA must OWN this bloodbath.

Below is the AI overview of the original meaning of "Les Tenebres." It was a Catholic liturgy on Good Friday in which lights slowly go out in the church, symbolizing the death of Christ but one hidden light remains, symbolizing the Resurrection. In formerly Catholic France most people would have attended such a service at least once, maybe when they were children. In America, the liturgy is more condensed but still the lights going out makes a deep impression and the return of light at the Easter service is also impressive. The slogan in France today must be about the light of French culture going out in France.

Les Tรฉnรฉbres (Latin for "darkness" or "shadows") refers to Tenebrae, an ancient and deeply moving Roman Catholic liturgical service celebrated during the final days of Lent, specifically during Holy Week.
Historically, it is the combined, solemn chanting of Matins and Lauds (the evening and early morning prayers from the Liturgy of the Hours) for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Today, many Catholic parishes hold a modified or adapted Tenebrae service.
The service is highly sensory and dramatic, designed to immerse the faithful into the grief, betrayal, and abandonment of Christ's Passion. It centers around two unique, defining rituals:

1. The Tenebrae Hearse & Gradual Darkness

• The Setup: A distinct triangular candelabrum called a Tenebrae hearse is placed in the sanctuary, traditionally holding 15 candles.
• The Symbolism: These candles represent the eleven faithful Apostles, the three Marys, and the top candle represents Christ Himself, the Light of the World.
• The Progression: As mournful Psalms and readings from the Book of Lamentations are chanted, the candles are extinguished one by one. This symbolizes the growing darkness of sin over the earth and the abandonment of Jesus by His followers.
• The Hidden Candle: Eventually, the entire church is plunged into darkness, and only the single "Christ candle" remains lit. Instead of being put out, it is carried behind the altar or hidden from view, symbolizing Christ’s death and burial in the tomb.

2. The Strepitus (The Loud Noise)

• At the very end of the service, while the church is in total blackness, a sudden, harsh, and loud noise called the strepitus is made.
• This is achieved by slamming a large liturgical book shut, stomping on the floor, or banging against the pews.
• The strepitus symbolizes the cosmic chaos and the earthquake that shook the earth at the moment of Christ’s death, as well as the rolling of the heavy stone to seal His tomb.
• Immediately following the noise, the hidden Christ candle is brought back into view—a subtle glimmer reminding the faithful that death will not have the final word and foreshadowing the Resurrection. The congregation then departs the church in complete, reflective silence.

I doubt that the French rioters use of 'Les Tรฉnรจbres' has anything to do with the Catholic Easter Tenebrae services. As others have suggested on Twitter, the motto “In the name of Allah, it’s the Darkness” (or “here’s the Darkness”?) seems to be an explicit rejection of the Enlightenment and the primacy of Reason. A matched pair of opposing metaphors.

Given that elections are run by the states, it makes it difficult for the federal government to do much that is likely to be effective in disrupting or changing the results of the midterm elections, which doubtless will see Republicans lose races across the board. The US House and increasingly Senate look likely to change to Democratic control, and many governorships and state houses as well.

I have no doubt that Trump will claim the elections were rigged and tell the DoJ to sue states claiming voter fraud and what not, and once again lose every case like he did after the 2020 election. But Trump's claims of a rigged election will largely fall on deaf ears and I suspect some/many in his administration charged with following up on his claims will do so reluctantly and some may quit rather than do so. That's been the trend with Trump's prosecution of his political enemies and I doubt that changes as Trump becomes a lame duck with historically low approval ratings and his party getting blow out of the water by American voters.

Dr Weevil said...

More lies from IEE. He thinks it's "doubtless" that Republicans will "lose races across the board". Those who are studying the numbers of early voters say that Republicans are very strong in most states, that young voters and black voters are (so far at least) staying home in huge numbers, and that the polls predicting a Democratic tsunami are (a) obviously fraudulent push-polls, and (b) already lowering their predicted margins, as they do every year, so they won't be too embarrassingly far off when the real numbers come in on Election Day.

Fraudulent push-polls don't always help the side they favor. Here's a Fox news story from today (link): "Democrats furious after pollster boosting far-left candidates admits fabricating surveys: ‘Absolute scumbags'" - Wedgewood Polling told them the Democratic candidate in Mississippi was only 4% behind, so they dumped a bunch of money on the race, and he's likely to lose by 20+%. Duh! It's Mississippi.

Of course, one reason for grossly overstating the Democratic vote in the polls is to make it easier for them to claim cheating when the Republicans do well in the actual election. IEE is helping set up the claims of fraud by accusing Trump of wanting to 'disrupt or change the results' when in fact all he (Trump, not IEE) wants is an honest election with no votes from non-citizens, or dead voters, or nonexistent voters, or double votes from legitimate voters. And the Democrats are desperately trying to prevent that.

I have no doubt that it is the Democrats that will claim that the elections were rigged. @DataRepublican has been gathering evidence that the Democrats are planning a 'color revolution', challenging the election results, calling out huge mobs like the ones in France, pushing Trump into invoking the Insurrection Act, and then having Democratic governors openly defy the Federal government as illegitimate.

And IEE supports all of that.

Everything exposed to markets and technology got cheaper: TVs, software, phones, clothing. Everything controlled by institutions exploded: college, healthcare, childcare. And housing, where you need a committee's permission to build anything. Same country, same economy, same decades. The difference isn't the product. It's who controls it.

Taxes go up and services get worse, because the money doesn't reach the services. It feeds the layers. Immigration happens at a scale no electorate clearly chose, because for a system that lives on managing problems, more problems means more budget.

MAGA isn't the cause of the chaos. It's the immune response. Brexit, the farmers' revolts, the votes shaking every European capital: same thing. The body finally noticed the tumor.

So what we're living through is not a normal political cycle. It's a fight to the death between two models. One runs on the perception of goodness. The other runs on reality.”

“dr weevil says” = Trump says”…

That’s quite a journey from dismissing polls as fraudulent to predicting a Democratic “color revolution” that somehow ends with Trump invoking the Insurrection Act. Apparently, the conspiracy theories are the reliable data.

The Wedgewood scandal is real, but it proves that one pollster fabricated data, not that legitimate polling showing Republican vulnerability is fraudulent. And early-voting totals, without knowing how those voters will vote or how they compare with previous elections, are not a crystal ball.

As for Trump wanting only an honest election, that would be more convincing if demands for election integrity came with evidence of widespread fraud rather than treating hypothetical noncitizen voters, dead voters and double voting as proof of a problem. The distinction between investigating actual fraud and manufacturing suspicion about an unfavorable result matters.

Finally, the elaborate prediction of Democratic mobs, a “color revolution” and governors defying the federal government is precisely the sort of speculation you accuse others of indulging. You’re entitled to your forecast, of course. But calling opposing polls fraudulent while treating a partisan influencer’s conspiracy theory as evidence is not exactly a triumph of empirical analysis.

Again, IEE just can't stop lying, though he starts his 8:09am comment with an utterly incoherent line.

"The Wedgewood scandal is real, but it proves that one pollster fabricated data, not that legitimate polling showing Republican vulnerability is fraudulent." No, it proves that three pollsters so far, that we know of, fabricated data just this year. Has IEE already forgotten that The Public Sentiment Institute (TPSI) admitted to arbitrarily adding to Fishback's numbers in Florida, and that Median Strategies admitted to falsifying its polling on the Los Angeles mayoral race as a "social experiment" (both stories here)? Or is he just hoping we've forgotten?

How about this: "And early-voting totals, without knowing how those voters will vote or how they compare with previous elections." IEE doesn't know that comparison with previous elections is exactly what a lot of people are doing! Here's one example from Election2026 Updates (link), with numbers: "Breaking: Rural Republicans Are Turning Out In Force In Texas". Others have reported that early voting in conservative white north Dallas is through the roof, while early voting in liberal black south Dallas has dropped like a stone. Apparently black Democrats in Texas aren't pleased to have Talarico as their candidate instead of Jasmine Crockett. Again, the data are easily available, but IEE is too lazy, or too narrow-minded, to look for them.

I could show that the next two paragraphs in his comment are equally stupid and false, but why bother? He'll never read DataRepublican on Twitter, because if he did he'd know he's stupidly, ignorantly, shamefully wrong.
