Yeah, that new Falcons logo is really really something all right. But I wonder why a Nazi allusion is being made? I can't find any old Nazi bird symbol that even remotely resembles it. The only ones I see are eagles, and they show an eagle on full frontal view with both wings spread. Nothing in side profile like this. I guess they saw a bird, saw red and black, and decided: Nazis ! It's like somebody decided that's what the joke is going to be. Anyway, some of the jokes are pretty funny.

Christopher B said...

Aggie, I think you are partially correct but also being influenced by the use of the Prussian Eagle motif during WWII which was always the depiction of a natural bird. The Reichsadler which you can see here (link to Florida ADL page on it) is a more stylized and geometric depiction of an eagle rather than a natural depiction. I think that, along with the colors and the very banner-like vertical format, is what prompted the association.

The Brandon Herrera brouhaha because the Democrats posted some things a gamer (Brandon) says while gaming is getting the full Streisand effect on X.

Texas GOP candidate Brandon Herrera didn't hold a door open for an old lady once.
Texas GOP candidate Brandon Herrera once didn't put his shopping cart back in the stall. More to follow.
Texas GOP candidate Brandon Herrera once used cold medicine in a manner not recommended by the manufacturer.
He also once double dipped a chicken wing..... In ranch dressing. Disqualified.

With original quotes that Democrats thought were killer lines that would lose him votes:

Texas GOP candidate Brandon Herrera once told a fellow Halo player on Xbox Live that he would, “…sleep with his mother and drink all of his juice boxes the next morning.”

And the (sarcastic) reply on a podcast:
Texas GOP House Candidate Brandon Herrera Says Kittens Should Be Sent to Chinese Restaurants

I've half-listened a few times on the commentary when my son is online gaming with real friends and online friends/acquaintances he's never met. If these two quotes are the most vile Democrats can come up with, then, apparently, Brandon Herrera is a really mild mannered gamer.

On October 22, 2026, Donald Trump strongly defended a controversial campaign ad released by Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican nominee for Ohio governor. Writing on Truth Social, Trump pushed back against critics, asserting that he would use the ad himself and calling it "hitting pay dirt".

The Context and Controversy

The ad, funded by the Ramaswamy campaign, features the estranged birth mother of Democratic gubernatorial nominee Amy Acton calling her daughter a liar. Acton, a former health official under Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, was removed from her mother's care at age 12 after her stepfather was charged with raping her.
The ad triggered intense bipartisan blowback, split opinions across the GOP, and drew statements from multiple figures:
• Donald Trump: In his Truth Social post on October 22, 2026, Trump wrote, "The Press is trying to convince everyone that this Ad is bad, because it's so good! Who wouldn't use such an Ad? I would, it's called, 'hitting pay dirt.'" He explicitly urged Ramaswamy to keep broadcasting it, attacking Acton as a "disaster" and mocking critics.”

Is Trump actually trying to lose the House and Senate? Or has his dementia progressed to a point he really doesn’t know what he is saying? An American president who is coming down on the side of the mother of a 10-12 year old girl who was sexually abused by the mother’s husband, my God. OF COURSE, TRUMP DEFENDING THE AD AND THE DESPICABLE MOTHER AND HIS TOADY Ramaswamy, really shouldn’t be shocking after the last 10 years.

Those who continue to defend and support Trump are the ones who need their heads examined along with the cult leader.

“Why do leftists think revealing that a dead Republican was supposedly gay is noteworthy? Have they not noticed who the secretary of the treasury “

You see this nonsense about Trump and the Republicans being anti-LGB all the time. The absurdity is that Trump hires based on ability alone. He trusts the Treasury (Scott Bessent) and National Security (Rick Grinell) to gay men - not because of their sexual orientation, but because they are very good at their jobs. Contrast to Biden, who filled his cabinet and Administration by the numbers. Example#1 was Pete Buttplug, whose sole qualification was his sexual orientation. Also Karine Jean-Pierre, Rachel Levine, Shawn Skelly, etc.

The one thing that Trump hasn’t endorsed yet is the transgendered. The group of trans military NCOs so prominently shown under Biden are presumably all out of the military now for failing to satisfy the services’ physical fitness requirements, and ability to deploy, due to hormone replacements. We shall see if this changes. So far though, while sexual orientation appears innate, transgendered appears to be a psychiatric issue.

This charge that Omar's name is an alias seems pretty serious.

The accusation says her name is actually Ilhan Nur Said Elmi. If true, this might open her up to accusations of perjury or mail fraud. Why would she have an alias?

Anyway, that's a very specific name. So they must have a witness or some other evidence. This is not a vague allegation.

Saint Croix said...

I've never heard of Arab News but their reporting on Omar's case is very good.

The focus of the probe is reportedly on whether she or her late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, misstated her age on immigration documents. Investigators are examining whether her age was listed as 17, rather than 18, when her father became a US citizen in 2000. This is a key distinction because at the time, minors age 17 or under could be granted citizenship automatically through a parent. Adults, age 18 and over, had to submit an application of their own.

Your sister Sahra Noor reportedly listed a Minnesota home address when creating her Grit Partners Consulting business, which received millions in government contracts. That same address was used as a residence by figures convicted in the $250 million Feeding Our Future fraud scheme. Have you ever intervened or taken any action in connection with your sister's contracts or those of Feeding Our Future?"

Saint Croix, assuming the question is not rhetorical, the alias is really her father's, not hers. There is a high likelihood her father was concealing his actual background as an officer in the Somali Army under the Marxist Barre dictatorship which would have prevented him from entering the United States. Since he wasn't with the portion of the family that settled in the UK, they continued to use the Elmi name and created the background for the sham marriage to get the brother entry into the US. I suspect the efforts to portray Ilhan as 17 were to avoid the extra scrutiny her independent adult naturalization application would have drawn, as well as speeding up the process. Since as a minor her naturalization flows directly from his, it would at least raise questions about her status if there is proof he concealed information that would have caused his application for entry and naturalization to be rejected. The focus on the statements about her age are probably not so much about the paperwork, which she wouldn't have been filing out, but to prove her knowledge of and ongoing participation in the scheme to conceal his identity.

Very true- of weak minded people and those taught that individualism is bad- that the group is always right. Successful Western societies reject the Nordic Law of Jante. The Chinese have a similar outlook, but expressed in many sayings and aphorisms.

Elon Musk and Donald Trump in modern times, Andrew Carnegie, the Wright Brothers, Henry Ford, the signers of the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution in older days are all people who stood out- and are admired for that. Well, Not Donald and Elon because Democrats seem to be devote followers of Law of Jante.

Being right is it's own reward when most of the people around you are wrong. For example, like many others, I'll never be forgiven for being right about refusing the mRNA shots. That's the real fear in proper Western society- going along with the group when the group itself is wrong.

Well, not the Yemeni government, but the Houthi rebels who control half of Yemen, and who've been murdering civilians in Saudi Arabia, as well as trying to close the strait.

Of course, any sensible person knows that there are countries with strategic locations on straits that have never been bombed because they've never tried to block them. Djibouti and Eritrea have never tried to block the Bab el Mandeb, and Oman has never tried to block the Strait of Hormuz, and they've never been bombed. How peculiar is that? Not at all: it's common sense.

Contrary to upthread myth, *most* posters are not using the lingojam italics generator: a few are. But why not obey the bloghost's injunction to not use italics (or boldface)? There's nothing wrong with employing asterisks (or even, *gasp!*, underscores) for emphasis.

But, speaking as one who has used html italics (prior to their banning) dozens if not hundreds of times over the years here, and *never* left them running on afterwards (because it's super easy to just check if the tags right *before* posting), if someone does improperly use them and leaves that faucet running, a later poster trying to cancel them should always put in *two* close italics tags, i.e., </I> </I>

Why? Because it's not unlikely that the reason italics wasn't properly closed before is because the slash '/' was left off the earlier poster's close tag. Since those things nest, it then takes 2 close italics tags to shut italics off.

Bruce Hayden said...

The end game is fairly clear with Iran. Cutting the IRGC from money is working. It’s just a matter of time. What little money that Iran has appears to be going into the US election. But that is coming up fast, and after that, they will have little ability left to put pressure on the US.

The Houthis though are a different story. They are putting significant pressure on their neighbors, esp Saudi Arabia, a putative ally of the US. I think that this problem will ultimately have to be addressed. Probably kineticly. The good news is that they aren’t getting the Iranian support that they have in the past.
