"If Hegseth were not a musclebound intellectual void, he would know this."
"He would know that the Fort Hood killer told the mental health panel that he wanted to die. He would know his standby lawyers told the judge he was not mounting a defence because he craved the death penalty. He would know that the Greek word for 'martyr' and the Arabic 'shahid' both mean 'witness.' Abdullah Azzam, the godfather of modern jihadism, wrote that nations were built by 'the martyr’s blood and scholar’s ink.' The late al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri — who converted to jihadism after the hanging of a martyr in Egypt in 1966 — wrote that 'more than half the battle is fought in the media.' The great anthropologist Joe Henrich has persuasively argued that martyrdom, and the publicity secured by it, was key to the spread of early religions...."

Ha! Matthew Syed Is from the Pee Wee Herman school of journalism, Well, if you want to be executed, we aren’t going to execute you. So there!
The video being used later as Jihadist propaganda is a legitimate concern. C'mon now. They've used less.
Look, I think Hasan's death sentence is legit, and I support that, but I do not support making it a "spectacle." Unwise, among other things.
This merely establishes the need for at least one female soldier on the firing line (because jihadi "martyrs" who die at the hands of a woman are denied entrance to jannah according to some sects) and lubing the bullets with bacon grease (as Black jack Pershing is claimed to have done in the Moro Wars.) Whether true or not, it would make for some amusing reactions among the quisling media at the very least.
'more than half the battle is fought in the media.'
Prediction- First lots of court injunctions and appeals and counter appeals and at the end of it all the War Department will shoot the traitor live on stream, next thing is the ratings will be yuuuuge! Media swine like Syed will say they are aghast at the popularity of the execution but at the same time jealous of the clicks. Then the next execution the London Times will suddenly be in favor of public executions, and will sue to be allowed broadcast rights. Libs will fall in line and suddenly support the death penalty. The only people who will not flip their position are conservatives who agree with capital punishment, but personally will refrain from watching.
"if Hegseth were not this thing I pretend not to respect because I can't achieve it, he would know these things I have no evidence he doesn't know."
By that logic we should put the Fort Hood killer in the witness protection program and set him up with a nice place in the suburbs. That'll fix their jihadi wagon!!!
Does the author ever provide proof that Hegseth is unaware, ill-informed and “intellectually void?”
Hmmm. Didn’t think so. All the emoting about the killer wanting this or that is irrelevant to the UCMJ punishment he is facing. Why do leftist journalists (BIRM) enjoy posing as ignorant dunces when they write about normal Americans?
Whatever, whatever - just shoot his ass.
Imagine you’re about to get hosed so hard in the midterms that you decide to start doing televised executions.
Perhaps Trump and Hegseth simply want to incite the British labor force as vengeance for interfering with US elections.
Republicans will dominate the midterms, shocking only the hardest of hard left ostriches. And if we needed the terrorist de@d before the midterms it wouldn’t be scheduled for December.
Don’t worry Mr. CTRL-V your side is putting forth plenty of jihadi and jihad-adjacent candidates to keep the conversation going. Maybe even the 9-11 perpetrators can be dealt their proper fates.
…in the Jack Ryan books they went a found a pigskin ball to hold as they went in their way…
This decision is raw meat for the MAGA base. Ultimately, I doubt it will ever be implemented.
Now why did they kill awlakis whole family except for his farhwr
Including the whelp at thd cafe
It is always so convenient when anyone who disagrees with you about anything is an intellectual void.
They made much about saddams execution in that teleplay they never suggested an alternative
Sounds like Syed has fallen back on a single factor explanation of social and political phenomena. Probably fairly stupid. Of course, the basis of much modern social "science." Maybe Hegseth and his critics are equally stupid. At least Hegseth, in addition to making predictions, has an argument about what individuals actually deserve. Maybe the worst punishment in this case would be to be forced to run a gauntlet, while naked. The obervers: women n Western attire yelling things like: you can't even get an erection.
Do we get to nominate what normal Americans see as the “ultimate gift to jihadis” in contradiction to the lousy London scribe?
1. Billions in cash to Iran from an American president who would brook no criticism of Islam but would enthusiastically mock Christians, had an Iranian advisor living in the WH with him and proclaimed the camel-like call to prayer the “most beautiful sound in the world.”
Your mileage may vary.
A scene at Planned Perphood can be created with AI and used as a propaganda tool to garner entertainment of abortive ideation by those prone to lean into lived experiences.
Hes very dhimmi
This is so fake. If the killer had been some Rightwing wacko who'd killed muslims, the Times and all the MSM wouldn't care. I was shocked at how the ACLU and the usual opponents of capital punishment suddenly went on radio silence when the Okalahoma City bomber was killed.
Yes, if we kill the murderer, he wins. LOL.
So the jihadists are going to jihad. So what? It's not their call.
Also--"No fair you executed one of our murderous heroes" seems a little lame in the propaganda game.
And approach the bar, RcOcean. For your vicious muder of the View cast and your dropping a 500 lbs. weight on them, I sent you to death.
Rcocean - Thanks judge, i want to die.
Judge - Oh, in that case, life imprisonment. That'll teach you.
…did anyone recognize there was some World Opposed to the Death Penalty Day on Saturday? Me either but Pope Liberal Get Trump I was all over it…
That's why we should have given the Nazis at Nurenberg life in prison. That would have been a fate worst then death. Right ACLU? Right NYTs? Right London Times?
LOL.
But they were all fine with charlies death the tard factor has gone beyond kirk lazarus
Capital punishment, Capitol punishment, or Planned Parenthood etc with liberal license? Due process or an aborted "burden" of state and mind?
London bridge is falling down is a sign of the Times.
When General John (“Black Jack”) Pershing was in the Philippines suppressing the Moro insurrection a rumor spread that captured Miri fighters were executed after being wrapped in fresh pig skins or sprinkled with pig blood. The Moros were Muslims and the idea of being sent to Iblis instead of receiving their 70 houris was terrifying.
Modern historians claim that Pershing and his American troops did no such thing, but there is evidence that at the time, the Moros believed the stories, and there are people who credit this bit of early 20th century psychological warfare with contributing to the end of the insurrection.
Could something like this be planned for Hassan as a warning to potential future jihadis? I don’t know but I am guessing.
Like lansdale and the aswang
THe British establishment never changes. Wetting their pants over executing a muderer and live streaming it, while cheerleading for war in the Ukraine, and saying nothing about the atrocities in the Middle east. How many people were killed in the Ukraine today? what's the death toll in Iran up to? Or Palestine and Lebanon?
What about all those innocent deaths? Where are the london times tears and concern for them?
They have been all in on killing jews since the 20s except for orde wingate
So, this Army psychologist "told the mental health panel that he wanted to die. He would know his standby lawyers told the judge he was not mounting a defence because he craved the death penalty."
"Please don't throw me in the briar patch."
• Reverse Psychology: When Brer Fox threatens to skin, hang, or barbecue him, Brer Rabbit begs him to do any of those things—just not to throw him into the briar patch.
• The Trap: Brer Fox falls for the trick, assuming the briar patch is the worst possible punishment. He flings Brer Rabbit right into it.
• The Escape: Brer Rabbit lands safely because he was "born and bred in the briar patch," mocking Brer Fox from the safety of the thorns.
I think Hassan definitely deserves the death penalty and killing him by firing squad at Ft. Hood is a nice touch. However, the televised killing is creepy and--I can't be the first person to say this--overkill. Too much of a good thing.
Back in the good old days when we didn't coddle criminals, the trip to the public execution was part of the punishment. They used to torture criminals with hot pincers. The crowd loved it. The thinking was that it if you made the criminal scream and squirm, God would have mercy on him and perhaps forgive some of his sins. It was a kindness really......Some of that was present in the execution of Marie Antoinette. Unlike her husband, she was made to travel to the beheading in an open tumbrel......I hope this historical footnote doesn't given Hegseth any ideas.
Shooting Hasan at Fort Hood is justice, IMO.
What is the purpose of livestreaming the execution? What does it accomplish? Serious question.
I don't see it being a deterrent to radical Islamists. They are willing to massacre civilians and die in the process. They are always releasing films of the horrors they inflict and their "glorious martyrdom". They love that.
I've thought about it and I've concluded it is misguided, but I'm persuadable. Persuade me otherwise.
I hate muscle prejudice. Muscle makes you smarter. Hegseth would be a moron if not musclebound. Personally, I like the fact that the jihad's will ulululate during the execution. It's the celebration of diversity.
I'm with ChrisC
Shoot his sorry Muslim ass, kick some dirt over him and let the flies have him.
Planned Parenthood? LOL. Things that don't work.
Pierce the privacy shield.
A scalpel to disarm... reasonable arms control, and a vacuum to contain the carbon pollutants... climate change . Planned Perphood is an ethical Choice in sanctuary states operating with liberal license and in other states with due process.
Saw a video the Taliban took of executing some guy tied to a pole by blasting him with an artillery piece. It made a smoking hole in the victim that a basketball could easily pass through. When the corpse was lying there, a bunch of men came forward to mutter Islamic curses and throw rocks into the hole and on the body. I'm quite sure nobody seeing that footage thought it was anything they'd ever want to have happen to them, no matter how many virgins they were gonna get later. I'm betting that the number of suicide bomber recruitment techniques that involve showing a potential martyr exactly what happens to them when the bomb goes off is zero.
I don't see it being a deterrent to radical Islamists.
The purpose of the UCMJ isn't to deter radical Islamists. But the "U" stands for uniform.
He wounded 30 soldiers--who were unarmed because of "workplace rules." I think that those soldiers should be given the opportunity to volunteer to be members of the firing squad.
Bob Boyd--the jihadists revere the strong horse. They view our fastidiousness about executions as weakness.
Maybe someone should ask the 30 soldiers who were wounded and the families of the 13 who were killed how they feel about this. I suspect that Hegseth already has.
"The purpose of the UCMJ isn't to deter radical Islamists. But the "U" stands for uniform."
Sorry, Wince. I don't get it.
In the movie Breaker Morant, one of the Aussies on trial is questioned about a prior reprimand he got for putting Boer prisoners in open rail cars in front of the trains, so that when the Boers blew up the trains they killed their fellow Boers. He admits the reprimand but says "It worked, didn't it?" The judge sustained the objection but the point was made.
I think Wince's point was that the guys (and gals) in uniform are the important ones in the equation. To me they are. anyway.
Syed: Get off my lawn!
We're being treated to a round of agitation propaganda, thanks to the meatball handed to them by announcing a publicized execution. I wish the quality was better than it is.
Calling someone that is physically-fit 'musclebound' is asking us to disbelieve our own eyes, right there in the headline. Following up by imputing what Hegseth does or doesn't know, is cheap and immediately discountable as agit-prop.
Will 'not' executing Hassan cause the Islamic world to start behaving itself? No.
What I would like to know is, what is the distinction between the authority of military justice and Federal justice systems, when it comes to making decisions like this one? What authority can civilian courts bring to bear on matters of military justice? I notice that nobody is talking about that, so I suspect the answer is 'very little'. I suspect this tidbit is being held in reserve, to better stoke the outrage later when things don't turn out to their satisfaction, and they want to start squalling again.
But on balance, I've come around to the idea that the DoW should simply announce that Hassan has been sentenced to death, and that the sentence will be carried out at a later date, subject to the decisions of the DoW, and that it may or may not be publicized, and that it may or may not even be announced, before or after it happens.
By deliberately shutting down the information flow until they choose whether or not to release a death announcement, they've removed the motivation to complain. What are the whiners gonna do, complain about this, too? More importantly, how can the radical Muslims declare him a martyr when they don't even know if he's dead or not?
As I recall, Osama Bin Laden’s body, after definitive identification, was buried at sea just so there would be no grave to be visited by other martyrs. Seems like a good idea here.
Murder, rape-rape, rape, torture-torture in the pursuit of social justice are an ethical vice? A fetal conception? A novel deal?
Since when?
Matthew Syed started with his conclusion and worked backwards. Standard media fare.
#MartyrLivesMatter is a handmade tale in the service of silent Springs.
I got the Breaker Morant thing wrong. The prosecution had a witness testify about the reprimand. On cross, the Aussie's lawyer got the witness to admit that the measure stopped the problem with the Boers blowing up trains.
"I think Wince's point was that the guys (and gals) in uniform are the important ones in the equation. To me they are. anyway."
That's a good argument.

"We're being treated to a round of agitation propaganda, thanks to the meatball handed to them by announcing a publicized execution. I wish the quality was better than it is."
You don't think that Trump and Hegseth know precisely what the "meatball" would engender? That's the whole point. They want the lefties to scream loud and long about the barbarity of publicly executing treasonous murdering jihadis. It gets the attention of the base.
"A good tactic is one your people enjoy, keeping them engaged."
A private judgment. A private abortion. How many people would use the Planned Parenthood corporate charter to frame judicial administration, legislative action, executive enforcement?
Can they abort the fetus, cannibalize her profitable parts, sequester her carbon pollutants, and have her, too? Maybe, baby, maybe not.
Whether entertaining abortive ideation with affirmative action, vicariously while leaning in, as a judicial sentence, or in self-defense... own it.
Writes London Times columnist Matthew Syed in "America’s livestreamed execution is the ultimate gift to jihadists/The Trump administration must meet the Fort Hood killer and all terror with muscular indifference, not this gruesome circus."
I can tell you from first hand experience shooting Muslims in the face works wonders for convincing them to stop doing things.
In fact it is really the only thing that will actually convince them of anything.
500 pound explosives work too.
They certainly don't give a shit about words or anything you say.
Selective sensibilities, pride, and prejudice. We live in interesting times.
If they livestream it, will the firing squad have to wear masks? Or will there just be a single camera fixed on Hasan in his wheel chair?
Like 99 and 44/100ths of the American public, I don't much give a flying fig about what "Major" Hasan wants. That's the old Ivory Soap standard. We need to wash this guy out of earthly existence. Let him go to his 72 virgins, and let's hope they all look like Helen Thomas on a bad day.

It proves we are serious people and we mean what we say.
People who have grown up in America under the protection of white men and who have never been to the rest of the world do not understand what the rest of the world is like. At most they go to the tourist areas of other countries where they are confronted with opportunities to inject dollars into the local economy.
The rest of the world is racist, sexist, and not based on a Hellenic tradition. There is no enlightenment in most countries. If you grew up in an area where protestant christianity is the norm then you have no clue what works in the rest of the world.
Force works. Jail works. Executing people works.
If you buck power in China you quite literally have your organs harvested.
My wife and I have discussed high trust low trust societies many times. In China if you had something stolen from you it is your fault. You shouldn't be stupid enough to leave it out.
Muslims are even farther down that road. You have to kill many of them to get your point across. They are still living in the mindset of medieval wars.
If you are not willing to kill them in numbers Muslims will not respect you at all.

You completely misunderstand the Chatham House establishment.
They are importing military aged middle easterners to reconquer Britain as we speak.
They are the ones directing Zelensky's campaign to destroy refineries.
They are the only supporters of the Shia Mullahs left.
Selective, sensitive sensibilities. It's a Pro-Choice, Pro-Choice, Pro-Choice ethical culture. Things that don't work.
That said, safe, rare, and broadcast on the evening news and published in papers of record. LOL
Selective-murderers. #InGodWeTrust, not children... fetuses. #InStorkTheyTrust
Sounds like a mitzvah.
"atrocities in the Middle east"
Obama's Iran-Hamas Affair, human shields, and Hamasidoloters.
I think our society is in the mood for public executions. We have cancel culture and Me Too and so many ways to send a message to people who have spoken or acted in unacceptable ways. Cancel culture is like being sentenced to the stocks in Medieval Europe -- public humiliation intended not so much for the accused as for those watching. So, you'd think, people with this sort of mindset would be all for public executions since the death sentence sends a very precise message to wrongdoers about justice and the law.
Lebanon is removing its Hezbolla occupiers. Iran, its mullahs.
Gaza, too, despite Pro-Hamasidal support.

I disagree with you both. Aim for the heart. And head.
Of course. Publicized executions are a gift to those who think "martyrdom" will bring them a place in paradise. Look for the video file to circulate all over the Muslim world.
While Syed's snark isn't worth a damn, it is true that a president who came from reality TV doesn't need other TV personalities in his cabinet.
What Hasan believes and wants is completely irrelevant. Only justice for his victims is relevant. Putting Hasan to death will eliminate his ability to believe or derive pleasure from anything, which is the point. He snuffed out many lives, let his be snuffed out, along with his beliefs and desires. He only wins if Islam is true, and it isn't, and he will, by God's grace, find that out soon enough. Even so, may God have mercy on his soul.
As regards a live-streamed execution, no one is for invvanyone to watch it.
People should read what I wrote at 7:47. There are ways to turn the execution into a piece of psychological warfare that jihadists will remember for 1000 years.
If we have the nerve. And the imagination. And the will to ignore the Lefties, who will whine about anything the Trump administration does, no matter what it is.
As regards a live-streamed execution, no one is forcing anyone to watch it.
Fixed it. Sorry
Don't care. He should have been killed 10 years ago.
I think most of this talk of the glories of martyrdom is just that: cheap talk. With the exception of the dupes who blow themselves up, when push comes to shove most of these jihadists do their best to stay alive. Hasan might say he wants to die, but that's just an attempt to look good to his fellow jihadists. If he were given the choice of the firing squad or safe passage to anywhere he wants, I think we know what he would choose.
It does not matter. The propaganda will be broadcast on the evening news and published in papers of record. Automated Intelligence will assemble, animate an empathetic image on demand. The terrorists win.
Yeah the martyrdom thing seems to be promoted primarily by old white-haired jihadists. As in "Martyrdom is Supreme! You kids get out there and make us proud!"
Trump expressed wariness about this manner of execution. Of all the cabinet officials, Hegseth is the only one to stake out a position more hyperbolic than Trump. Maybe this is who he really is and./or maybe this involves politics.........I can't help but notice that many of the people who regard this as barbaric regard 10/6 as asymmetrical warfare.
Syed advises
Muscular Indifference meets Musclebound Void --
Looks like synonym? Similar meaning
France could provide Madame Guillotine sister to Madame Liberte and Trump could park it under Arch for periodic use such as this.
If a prisoner dies of 'natural causes', then he's not a martyr. Not so? He could have a heart attack tomorrow, in his cell. It can be arranged.
I'll tell you something interesting about the A.I.s on the web. When it comes to questions about Islam, they don't know nuthin 'bout nuthin. You don't even get a prompt.
As for Hamas

I expect plethora deep fake analysis
Would livestreamimg abortions from Planned Parenthood umbrella corporation aid or curb performing human rites for social (e.g. RAAT culture), clinical, criminal (e.g. rape-rape culture), political, and climate progress?
Execute him the way the Soviets used to do at the Lubyanka prison. Then dispose of the body at sea and do not mark the location. Do not televise. Do not take pictures. Keep no records. Make it be that he never existed in the first place.
It's often a good thing to give bad people exactly what they think want, and give them a (brief) chance to discover just how wrong they were.
Matthew Syed is an idiot
It will deter one of them.
The risk is that Persons will consider abortion executed at Planned Parenthood and Planned Perphood as homicidal Choices, the former as Capitol punishment, a human rite, a wicked solution in service of RAAT imperative #MeToo, and the latter as capital punishment for Planned or premeditated murder. Privacy, please. Let us bray.
Since Muslims claim to revere Moses, why not due it Law of Moses style? hang him on a tree until he is dead. Then chop the tree down and burn it. As a nod to cultural sensitivies, burn the tree in bacon fat.
Shorter Syed: "If Hegseth were not a hillbilly, he would know this."
Is Syed "Ritmo?"
"Were Boers bad guys?"
Well the Brits and Aussies were at war with them, so in the context of the court martial in Breaker Morant they were the bad guys. And they were the guys blowing up British trains and killing British soldiers.
The movie raises a lot of questions about moral certainties in the context of guerilla warfare.
Why do you ask?
"Imagine you’re about to get hosed so hard in the midterms that you decide to start doing televised executions."
Which you schedule for December, which is after the election.
