"I voted against my party more than another other senator on either side of the aisle."

Asserted Senator Susan Collins, quoted in "Live Updates: Collins and Jackson Clash in First Debate of Crucial Maine Senate Race/Senator Susan Collins and her Democratic challenger, Troy Jackson, faced off on Supreme Court appointees, health care, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and their approach to governing" (NYT).

ADDED: I think the quote should be "I voted against my party more than any other other senator on either side of the aisle." Perhaps the Times will tweak the transcription.

BUT: If she said “other” twice, the Times probably has it right. Who knows how they talk in Maine?

LOL.

It will be fun to watch democrats try to make their voters turn out for that shit sandwich.

All of the other other senators
Used to laugh and call her names.

She always votes with her party - the uniparty. She's not worth the trouble to keep in the Senate. She's used her power as Chairman and as a swing vote to stop MAGA and subvert Trump.

I note how the left always cries "bipartisanship! We need people willing to cross party llines!" when they talk about Republicans... but when it comes to the Manchins, Sinemas, and Fettermans there zero praise for bipartisanship then.

Which pretty much says it all, doesn't it. Collins is worthless, but if you can have her "pissing out of the tent" rather than in, i'll take it I guess. She's better than Fetterman. Not by much, but at least she'll vote for a GOP leader. Though with Thune, what's the difference between that and Schumer?

That would be a real test: would Collins, Murk, (Curtis is part of this group) etc. vote for, say, Mike Lee or Ted Cruz or even someone quietly conservative like the Kennedy from LA who talks a good game? I bet not. I bet Collins would stab the party in the back and caucus with Democrats if she had to vote for Lee or Cruz as Majority leader. Funny how no Democrat ever hints at abandoning the leftist leadership, mo matter how "moderate" they claim to be.

Vote for me. I help the people you vote against more than anyone else.

Of course it matters which party controls the Senate, if for no other reason than to short circuit democrat malfeasance.

Great. Another RINO who brags about being a traitor.

[Shrug] She's as far right as is going to be elected in Maine. If she is replaced it will be by someone who will vote with Republicans never, or so close as makes no difference. I believe in taking what I can get and not pretending that a more conservative individual than she is can be elected in Maine.

RCOCEAN disagrees with me. This is because he has no grasp of practical politics. I've worked on real campaigns back in the day; I don't try to get what cannot be gotten.

What's worse? Letting perfect be the enemy of good. Susan Collins is pretty wily as a politician, and she has managed to navigate a tricky terrain. Down-easters can be stubborn when somebody starts challenging the gold carats of their Yankee Independence. And that swings both ways - there will be Democrat voters that don't like the cut of Jackson's jib. Not enough, maybe. I think Collins has a pretty good shot though.

Which is why normal Republican really don't understand why she keeps getting elected. She isn't very Conservative if she votes with the other side more than anybody else, is she??? What she is saying isn't something she should be proud of.

There is only one vote that will matter: Yes or No on Guilty, in impeachment.

"Any" establishes non-posiitive context (question or negation). It implies every other senator instead of just some other senator.

Christopher B said...

My guess would be that she intended to say "any other Senator of either party" but realized that she swallowed "any" at the end of "than" and then repeated "other" to fill the gap. "Other Senator*S* of either party" would have been a clean way to correct dropping "any" but her focus on the originally intended phrase kept it singular.

This just demonstrates how serious universal suffrage is.

The danger of splitting states into smaller chunks. Maine now is as loony as its parent.

Impeachment requires 67 votes, highly improbable, but control of the Senate is needed to set the agenda and confirm judges. There is no conceivable way Collin’s losing would be better for Republicans.

Josephbleau gets it, wendybar and RCOCEAN not so much.
