Does Obama even know what cheesecake is?

I've listened to this 20 times:

I believe he's trying to talk like a standup comedian. I feel as though he's been coached on how to sound like a standup comedian who is also the Obama who once presided over what's now supposed to be remembered as a golden age.

That's not easy, but when he gets to his big punchline — "He's got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory" — it's like he doesn't even know what cheesecake is let alone have any familiarity with the restaurant chain a lot of Americans regard as a pretty nice place to go out to eat.

You don't get the full effect of the snobbery of looking down on the Cheesecake Factory, because he flubs the word "cheesecake." He's reading the teleprompter, presumably, "Cheesecake Factory" comes up, and he stops midway through "cheesecake" — "like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheese" — pause — "Cake Factory."

Is it a good joke, though, other than that? Most of us know the interior design of a Cheesecake Factory. Sort of. But Saddam Hussein is a figure from more than 20 years ago. What's the mental picture here? Saddam Hussein's palace... yeah, it must have been ornate....

But then Trump got elected. Twice. And Saddam faded 10 more years into the past. What is he to young people today? Another one of those generically bad guys like Hitler and Genghis Khan?

But there are plenty of well-known figures who embed themselves in gold decor.

What is this contempt for gold?

"What is this contempt for gold?." It depends on whom you ask. Mark Twain and Charles Dudley Warner? They didn't like it. Mark Spitz? How many gold medals did he get? He must have liked gold. However, all that glisters is not gold.
Obummer stays true to form.

The thing is, when you set out to denigrate a class of people, you have to first provide some evidence that you are actually in some possession of understanding and insight about them. That's what standup comedians provide, some humorous insights. Like Hillary, all he knew about the 'Deplorables' is that they were the target.

As much as they hate Trump, why are they imitating him? Don't they know it's the sincerest form of flattery? It's a giant 'You Won' signal.

In Florida, in a beach town, about half of the new homes are modern, cube like structures with flat roofs and a hodgepodge of mixed siding materials. Think McDonalds! These homes are seriously ugly. The other half are foreigners building massive new mansions that resemble wedding cakes. These homes are outrageous looking. My little house was a Sears kit home built in the 1920s. It is white, stucco and has a clay tile roof. It is very normal but it looks so out of place next to the monsters.
I think the phenomenon is known as "copy paste architecture."

What I think is happening is that somebody (usually a woman) with a lot of money takes a few pictures of houses they like, combines their "best" features and goes straight to the building contractor. No need for an architect.

I think this is also happening to the White House. Trump is designing the new ball room and it's going to look retarded.

Peachy+2 said...

I think democrats hate Trump's supporters more than Trump himself.

That's why so many leftists are out there non-stop - demanding MAGA be harassed, rounded-up, arrested, jailed, re-programmed, murdered, etc...

Barack is just jealous. He wanted a ballroom but was too timid to ask.

He’s also jealous at all the great things Trump has accomplished. Remember when Barack said, “Those jobs aren’t coming back?” Audi has just announced that it is building a giant plant in Macon, GA and will close their auto plants in Canada and Mexico.

It’s accomplishments like that the point out what a failure Obama was.

Yeah, the gold trim looks bad but Trump has done great and substantial things. And if we want to talk about architectural taste, that library in Chicago is a disaster.

AMDG said...

Has Obama looked at his library? Approving that monstrosity, which has taken the title of the ugliest public building from the Boston City Hall, disqualifies him from judging any architecture. That’s chutzpah.

I agree with Dave Begley. He sounds very jealous of all the WH renovations, in particular. It’s hard to believe he’s truly bewildered at the building of a big beautiful ballroom. The guy who claimed he could tame the seas couldn’t do what Trump has done. He likely never even thought of doing it.

A thought had crossed my mind that President Trump should endorse the Cheesecake Factory. Then I realized that it would be the kiss of death and decided he should keep quiet.

Then Bob Boyd pointed out that Obama had probably done most of the damage anyway with his joke.

So screw it. President Trump should go ahead and say something like {Snark about Obama and his poor joke} "I like Cheesecake Factory. Gonna have them cater the first big shindig in the new ballroom. In fact, when we finish tonight, let's all head over there. Dinner's on me. Wanna put a thumb in Obama's eye? Metaphorically, of course. Eat at Cheesecake factory"

It will sure piss off half the country but it will bring the other flooding it. Would the gain offset the loss? I'm guessing maybe.

I wanted to put a Starbucks in the lobby of the new ballroom but they won't let me. How about that? Exactly. Mental image glitch here. Saddam Hussein opens a Cheesecake Factory... what am I picturing here? A Cheesecake factory with a torture room in it? Wood chippers? Sort of macabre. Yes, law school faculty are involved in law reviews, though the journals themselves are primarily run and edited by law students.

Ways Faculty Are Involved

• Submitting Articles: Faculty members regularly submit their academic articles, essays, and lectures to law reviews for publication.
• Advising Students: Students writing independent research papers or "notes" for the law review typically choose a faculty advisor to help guide their research.
• Institutional Oversight: Law schools and their deans remain institutionally and legally responsible for the actions, funding, and general integrity of their campus law reviews.
• Informal Guidance & Mentorship: Faculty members often assist student editors by answering substantive legal questions or helping evaluate complex scholarship.

Key Distinction

Unlike academic journals in most other graduate fields (which are peer-reviewed and managed by professional researchers or faculty), North American law reviews are unique because the editorial decisions, copyediting, and daily operations are handled almost entirely by student editors.

The term originated in the early 20th century as a polite, publicly acceptable code word for photos emphasizing a woman's sex appeal when discussing such imagery openly was considered taboo.
While it has a few distinct historical and cultural meanings, it primarily exists as the female precursor to the male slang term "beefcake

OTOH Obama's Oval Office epitomized sophistication -- a mix of frat house sofas and Motel 6 coffee table. The boxy coffee table looked like it was a reject picked up off the street, featuring a bowl of apples no one would ever eat.

Yes, and the atmosphere was always relaxed, so relaxed that sometimes the Chosen One's feet would be seen comfortably resting on the Endeavor desk. Nothing feels better than propping some shoe leather on the desk from time to time.

In Indonesia, one of the big etiquette points given to Westerners is that one should never show the bottom of their shoe to another, as in crossing your legs or propping up your feet, in conversation. It's a sign of deep disrespect.

Bill Clinton went on tv to complain about what Trump was doing to the Whitehouse. The democrats feel that interior design is a key issue of policy disagreement for the midterms!

"The democrats feel that interior design is a key issue of policy disagreement for the midterms!"

There are way more disagreements (of way more significance to the country) than that.

Interesting, that this is what they choose to focus on, is it not?

They're trying to make sure we don't vote for Trump in the midterms.

This imposter can't speak well unless he reads from a teleprompter other peoples words. This imposter can cry and thrash all he wants, but Trump is the best President in my lifetime, and Obama is the worst. Obama lied...people died, and he tries to blame everybody else. Typical lying Progressive, that likely never worked an honest job in his life.

Funny, AND true. Just watch the Progressive news. All the same. Same topics, same wording, same hate for Trump. That is ALL they have to run on, because it is the only thing I hear. How they are going to impeach him, go after him after the Presidency, and go after all the people who worked with him. Not what they will do to lower gas prices, egg prices and all the other prices they pretend to cry over today.

Democrats and Barack Obama told us American manufacturing jobs “are just not coming back.”

President Trump just announced Audi is building a $4.2 billion manufacturing plant in the United States.

Turns out putting America First works! 🇺🇸

The Cheesecake Factory nay experience an uptick in business from Conservatives after Obama's disdainful comment, like Goya, Hobby Lobby, Chick Fil A did. Hope so.

What an unnecessary and snobby diss Obama made on a mainstream restaurant and Anerican business.

They say that if you have to explain the joke, it is a bad joke.

It took me until this morning to understand the joke.

Now that I understand the joke, I will also add that some jokes are just bad.

This fits squarely in "Don't make me call my bluff!" territory.

No kidding.

Whoa -- hold on a minute. Not even Obama deserves that!

Obama and the liberal media don't have contempt for gold, just gold that is on display. They like their gold in bars kept in safes.

I enjoyed my meal at CF last night, ordering off the Skinny menu (dishes under 1000 calories). I didn’t get the joke, and still don’t. Why dis CF?
