"She was a noble and polite girl, a Christian. But all of a sudden she acted like an animal."

Said Mario Cisneros, quoted in "'Don’t Worry About Me': Attacker’s Father Thought She Had Turned a Corner/Pamela Cisneros was killed by the police in Times Square after she stabbed two people, one fatally. Her father said she had stopped going with him to her mental health appointments" (NYT gift link).

"Don't worry about me" is what the daughter said to the father. I originally read the headline to mean that the father was telling us not to worry about him. I do feel sorry for the father. Imagine seeing your daughter, "a noble and polite girl, a Christian," suddenly acting "like an animal," becoming a knife-wielding murderer, and now dead.

Yeah, but she randomly killed a 32 year old bank VP who was just returning from maternity leave. That is one that matters. Horrible.

As I said yesterday, we have reached the the dubious moral point where we refuse to treat the insane seriously.

Mental illness is truly a bitch. I can only imagine how helpless her family felt.

The three questions:
- was she actually making those appt's she didn't want him to attend
- was she prescribed meds?
- and taking them?

I’m not putting the plight of the perpetrator over the dead or injured stabbing victims here. At the same time, we really haven’t gotten a grip on how to deal with the severely mentally ill, especially when they cycle. Better people than I have failed to get a handle on it.

Leftists cheer another murder of someone they randomly hate.

protip (for daughters and fathers Both!):
try NOT killing people, and NOT attacking the police.. it MIGHT help!

The corrupt democrat party establishment (top-down) (crime syndicate) inspire mental illness.

of course, this poor little lady was OBVIOUSLY just suffering from a hormonal inbalance.. and thus can NOT be blamed for anything

no woman can be blamed for her actions, because NO WOMAN has agency, because ALL women are hysterical
Support Lindsay! Support ALL women that murder!
women NEED our love and care, because ALL women are SO STUPID, that they JUST CAN'T CONTROL THEMSELVES

The corrupt democratic party are on the march to allow all crime and de-criminalize crime with their "Not fit to stand Trial"
BS.

Unwell women. Lot of that going around.

Thank you ACLU.

Drill Sergeant: The woman had been taking monthly injections (at least); those are the appointments her dad had Ben taking her two before she said she’d handle it on her own.

But (from the article):

“He said he did not know what type of medication she had been receiving or what condition she was being treated for, and it was unclear whether she had taken medication recently or received mental health treatment. But in recent months, Mr. Cisneros recalled, his daughter had said she did not want to rely on medication to feel normal.”

Her landlord said she paid her rent on time, no fuss, and that he never heard a peep from her.

The article also said that at one point, years earlier, she had attempted suicide-by-train. Troubled past, apparently in cycles. Not untypical.

Was it planned? It's a small step from entertaining abortive ideation in the privacy of her head to taking affirmative action to relieve her "burdens" of state. That said, we need reasonable blade control.

the VP who was murdered

Ann Althouse said...

It's not either/or. If you care about the innocent victims out there, you should want better ways to deal with mental illness.

Capitalism in NOT a system of government. It is a non-coercive system of commerce and freedom.

The democrat-socialist authoritarians - HATE capitalism, trash capitalism non-stop, and are promising to stomp it out.

What will they use to fund their fascism?

Peachy+2 said...

One way to care about mental illness - is to stop promoting and inspiring it. (Democrat party we are looking at you)

There are diverse precedents for invisible recidivism of criminal and criminal-adjacent minds, thus Planned Perphood to abort, and institutions to sequester, respectively.

The disgraceful murder-lust evil of the corrupt left - again goes un-noticed by some.
Not by me:
Not by ---
Hon. Vickie Paladino of NYC

"Zohran/hasan/Ilhan fans now just directly calling for gangs of people to murder bank employees — as their ‘job.’

Understand, they want us dead. They aren’t joking.

There is no way to share a civilization with these people and something will have to be done."

If I were a big biz in NYC - I'd leave.

Althouse,we *had* a better way, until people and institutions like Thomas Szasz and the aforementioned ACLU destroyed them.

No, of course those ways had numerous problems, but as seems universal with the left, they destroy what exists in preference to some imagined Utopia that never comes.

It seems like the only people that can be institutionalized for mental illness are those that are copping a plea for strangling their three children or obeying Slenderman.

"She was a noble and polite girl, a Christian."

Was she a 'darn good mother'?

We can have sympathy for the mentally ill while still acknowledging that the set-point between freedom and public safety has swung too far to the left.

The exact truth about the mental institutions in this country is that they were set up by people copying English institutions which were set up to permanently confine the mentally ill so that they could not reproduce. It was thought that enough institutionalization would end mental illness because mental illness was genetic ally inherited and institutions would end the inheritance. That's why people were found who had been in there for forty years who merely had Downs syndrome or who had gotten pregnant out of wedlock or who were deaf. A better solution than completely closing down the whole system would have been testing and reviews. The goal would not be permanent institutionalization, regardless. But it would include involuntary confinement for those who were violent or delusional and would not take their meds. And the confinement would not be a repeated two weeks during which they took their meds and emerged from their delusions, only to stop taking meds as soon as they were free so that the whole cycle of delusions and violence began again.

I have sympathy for the victim and her family.

I'm also relieved the police were able to shoot the deranged killer dead.
Otherwise - the court/legal system in NYC(D) would simply let her go.

How about revoking her shrink's license to "practice" medicine?

RCOCEAN II said...

So, the killer was white so the NYT's treats it as a "mental health issue".

Had the killer been black, and shot by the police, the NYT's would've turned it into a race issue. Most of the blacks who commit these types of murders, are also mentally ill, and you could write the same type article. "They didn't take their meds, etc." But the MSM will always focus on race when they can.

Peachy+2 said...

I doubt the media(D) - will take a deep dive into Cisneros' on-line social media activity.

RCOCEAN II said...

As I've written elsewhere, if you watch the video the police could have easily tackled her from behind and taken her alive. She looked to be about 5-2 and 160 lbs. And was stupidly waving her kitchen knives in both hands. One taser shot hit her purse. The other hit her fat stomach.

hombre said...

This is an example of the ongoing tragedy of mentally ill people on the streets. Think of the difference that could be made with the money used to support illegal immigrants and to line the pockets of politicians and their consorts.

hombre said...

RCOII (10:54): “Most of the blacks who commit these types of murders, are also mentally ill….” This claim could use some clarification since a majority of the murders in this country are committed by black people.

The Everything Is Preventable outlook reeks of a Disney view of life.

Mental health diagnoses & treatments aren’t that well developed. But they are oversold as Cures. Patient compliance is spotty as well.
