I disagree! First, feminists hate all men. But they loathe Trump! Second. Feminists are obsessed with bodies. Whether it's rape and sexual violence or birth control and abortion, feminists are constantly stressing women's rights to control what happens to their bodies. And women, obviously, experience more societal control over their bodies (dress codes, whether they can breast feed on the subway, etc.). So, given this obsession, it doesn't seem unnatural to talk about men in this way as well.

I worked on Reagan’s 1984 re-election campaign, having evolved from moderate Republican to enthusiastic Reaganite during his first term. I think TDS is nastier, more widespread, and more visceral than anti-Reagan sentiment in its day, but I don’t recall anyone at the Times given Reagan’s policies the benefit of the doubt.
I think one big difference between then and now is that forty years ago Democrats rightly believed that they could not win elections without working class voters, and today my perception is that a portion of their TDS is contempt for the middle class and working class voters who support Trump. In MoDo’s world those serfs are supposed to know their place.
