"The DSA, in fact, seems to despise the Democratic Party. Darializa Avila Chevalier has called Joe Biden a 'rapist' and wrote 'Fuck Kamala Harris'..."

"... on social media. She proceeded to be nominated for a House race in New York last week by Democratic voters who presumably do not all share those feelings. The DSA now includes a growing caucus of supporters in Congress, has mayoral candidates well positioned to win in several big cities, and has plans to throw its weight behind a yet-to-be-determined presidential candidate in 2028. The DSA’s feelings about Democrats encompass not only the party’s leadership but also the philosophical commitments that have guided it since the New Deal: a mixed economy undergirded by democratic values. Chevalier, for instance, joined a post–October 7 celebratory rally and portrayed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a defensive response to Western 'bullying.' She previously called for seizing land and the means of production and has repeatedly praised communism. These positions are not holdovers from the idealism of youth or a bygone 'woke' era. They are a by-product of the DSA’s core ideology. The DSA has become a force in Democratic Party politics even as it has grown more hostile to the party, more illiberal, and more dogmatic...."

The problem for the Democrats.isn’t that socialists aren’t being democratic. The problem for Democrats is that they themselves have become undemocratic and socialistic.

This is something of a mess. Tulsi Gabbard, in departing the Trump admin, claimed she had proof that the CIA built bioweapons labs along Russia’s border with Ukraine. She’s probably right. Putin’s invasion might well have been partly in response to these bioweapons labs, similar to the Wuhan bioweapons lab that set loose COVID.

The big cities are becoming further detached from reality, embracing policies that guarantee decline. NYC has already needed a state bailout; more will follow. Other left-wing cities will soon find themselves in the same position.

Here's a fun fact: cities are creations of the states they are located in and state governments have the authority to dissolve those city governments and take over or completely reform them.

In analyzing the DSA wins, we have to keep being distinctly aware that the Democratic voters do not know what we know. It's just like Covid. We knew about the Great Barrington Manifesto; they did not. We knew about Scott Atlas; they did not. We knew childrem were more endangered by not being educated that by possibly being exposed to a virus to which they were extremely resistant; the Democratic voters did not.

And so, just as with Covid, dangerous people come to power and dangerous policies will get enacted. And, just as with Covid, the Democratic voters will not know what is going on. The Jews are the canary in the coal mine, as usual. 33% of New York City Jewish voters, voted for Mamdani. Because they were antisemites like Tucker Carlson? No, because they were ignorant and convinced they knew. And they are the archtype of the ignorant Democratic anti-American voter. They don't know at all and they think they know better, And they aren't on a path to learn.

Again looking at the unfairly persecuted Jews, what do we see? If you read The Times of Israel which is a left paper, you'll find them insulting Netanyahu, insulting their own right, insulting the US right. But you won't find them even asking why 33% of the Jewish voters in NYC voted for antisemitism. Somehow the Jewish left, in America and Israel, is unable to cope with the left becoming openly anti-semitic. I don't really understand it myself but I know from reading the Times of Israel since October 8th, 2023 that those on the left in Israel on October 7, fought for Israel starting on October 7 and have so fought ever since but their thinking has not caught up with their their actions. They think ZionismBad as they enlist and fight for Israel. And the Jews in NYC think ZionismBad and vote for Mamdani as they get insulted on the streets and their politicians like Lander are used as Judas goats.
So the question is how to reach an ignorance so entrenched that, as in the case of the lefty Jews, it cannot acknowledge what the left has become,. But the wedge must center on the fact that among voters as opposed to among the nomenklatura, the rising new class, this is really an entrenched ignorance, not really an entrenched hatred of America in the case of Americans nor an entrenched hatred of Israel among Israeli Jews.
Things are not as they seem. The times. they are 'achanging.

I thought the DSA had been very clear about this. They intend to run as Democrats to make use of the party infrastructure, align with Democrats on issues that are consistent with their objectives, and the replace the Democrats when their numbers are sufficient to do so. They consider themselves separate and not yet equal. Theirs is the strategy of conquest from within. They'll abide by the rules only as long as they need to, and then eventually force what remains of the party to abide by theirs. Sounds a lot like the religion of Peace, not so?

Since I went thru this myself, as a wet behind the ears kid new to NYC from a Midwestern college campus, I’ll speculate that this is what is happening. Another generation of kids migrated from the Styx to NYC expecting instant careers and wealth as promised to them by their school system indoctrination: “Just do as we told you and you’ll be successful. It’s practically owed to you.” They discover, upon alighting in NYC, that their liberal arts indoctrination doesn’t guarantee them a job or an income substantial enough to afford life in Manhattan. They feel cheated and lied to. (But it takes a long time for them to realize that it was the school systems that lied to them.) Most of us naive kids learned remunerative job skills and grew out of this indoctrination. Some don’t.

The unlimited nature of their quest deprived them of guardrails. So they have no mechanism to tell the DSA to rein it in. All they can say is that they agree with the destination of DSA politics, but they think the DSA is operating at an imprudent speed. They have no principled opposition. They merely disagree on tactics.

A foolish argument from both sides. Hate is a normal, inextinguishable human emotion. Next to jealousy, probably the most dominant of human emotions. It isn’t a characteristic isolated to one political faction. You might as well argue that people shouldn’t poop.

Their influence is real in specific cities/primaries. Success often depends on low-turnout local races and progressive discontent rather than broad appeal. Losers like Freder have to infer “hatred” in Trump’s policies because of course Trump doesn’t hate democrats he mocks them, which hurts them more. They so WANT to be hated by Trump and Republicans but I’m not emotionally unstable enough to hate someone over politics. And that’s another reason to mock Freder’s side and his feeble rhetoric.

Shouting Thomas said...

“Unaliving your opponents doesn’t belong in politics.”

Maybe on a moral level, you’re right, but it seems to have been a very dominant, effective political tactic for thousands of years, certainly since Julius Caesar, and long before. It was certainly an effective method of silencing Charlie Kirk.

Jamie said...

"Party labels have stopped being very meaningful."

Ding ding ding! Though... not the point I think IEE was trying to make. The point is that the DSA is wearing the skin suit and demanding respect, and more ordinary, less radical Democrats are realizing that the party label "Democrat" is tying them to the out-and-proud commies, willy-nilly, with (potentially) electoral results. The more ordinary, less radical Democrats are poised to lose control of what their party label means, as well as of political power.

The questions are, do *enough* of them realize it, and will they do anything about it? If neonazis were making a play to take over the Republican party - well, the thing is, that doesn't happen, because when neonazis try to assume the mantle of "conservative" or "Republican," the American right repudiates them, every time. Democrats take grinning handshake pictures with their far-left wing, in hopes of absorbing their small contingent of voters into the party* - but in this instance, it seems to be working in reverse.

* Which implies that the party at large doesn't have a problem with what their far-left wing wants. Whereas Republicans do not recognize neonazis as "their far-right wing" at all - they curse them to wander in the desolate wilderness.

Eva Marie said...

“Maybe on a moral level, you’re right, but it seems to have been a very dominant, effective political tactic for thousands of years.”
By definition politics does not include assassination.

Hassayamper said...

By definition politics does not include assassination.

Von Clausewitz said war is diplomacy by other means. Can we not consider assassination to be politics by other means?

Assassins play a dangerous game, though. When one side uses it against the other without suffering retaliation, it is usually because the other side has a more powerful and prosperous position with more to lose from a civil war, and not because of any inherent moral code or constitutional predisposition against violence. When that changes, the side that initiated violence promptly finds itself on the wrong end of the knife or gun, and is soon wiped out, as Robespierre and Marat discovered. The assassins of Julius Caesar were pretty thoroughly routed by Antony and then Octavian in the subsequent civil war, and their Republic was replaced by an Empire that lasted for a millennium and a half, if you count the Byzantines. What is left of the Borgias, or Haschischins, or the likes of John Wilkes Booth?

If the Left keeps pressing this issue to the point of generalized anarchy, they will be exterminated to the last man. We don't have a billion firearms in this country only for hunting.

Both parties have an Establishment or managerial side and a populist or insurgent side. Chait is an Establishment Democrat and doesn't understand that most people on both sides have lost patience with the Establishment.

Lyndon Johnson gave Democrats what they wanted, but he came to face massive opposition from his own party. It's no surprise that ineffective, hapless Joe Biden isn't popular with younger, lefter Democrats. Ineffective, hapless Jimmy Carter also faced opposition from disaffected Democrats.
