"The Austin Police Department responded to a 911 call at 3:51 a.m. Friday about a teen in a parking lot
possibly brandishing a gun. Officers responded to the scene and found the 17-year-old, a Black male, on the playground at a community park in the 10100 block of Baden Lane, Davis said at a press conference on Friday afternoon.
Body cam footage released by APD on Friday shows officers approaching the playground and telling the teen to keep his hands up repeatedly. Shortly after, the teen
appears to lift his shirt and reach for his waistband, and officers immediately fire multiple times, causing him to fall to the ground. Officers shoot again in response to the teen apparently moving on the ground.... Officers didn’t find a gun on the scene.
A water bottle was in the teen’s waistband, Davis said."
How does that sound like suicide by cop? "APD said it determined that the initial 911 call came from the teen’s phone.
Audio from the call shared by police starts with the dispatcher asking if the caller needs police, fire, EMS or mental health services. The caller responds with police."

You're misreading my intent. I ask the question after giving most of the story, then I answer the question by giving the crucial last part, that the young man made the 911 call and gave reason to believe there was someone there brandishing a weapon, then posed as the person the call was supposedly about. Once you get to that part, it seems rather obvious.
Another thing is that he sounds too calm on the call. The tone of voice seems more like someone who was giving up on life than someone who was worried about crime.
The left have built a permissive structure to harass and intimidate and generally f*k with police.
I’ve had cops pointing guns at me and I can tell you that it never occurred to me to do anything other than comply slowly. How anyone would consider resisting is beyond me. They aren’t just kidding around when the guns come out.

If you're a black male who wishes you were dead and you see the drama and publicity around a black male who drowned, I think you might think suicide by cop would be a nice way to go. Al Sharpton and Ben Crump show up with your family and they might actually get some money from the City of Austin.

At night, in a suboptimally lit place, wearing black. I'm waiting to find out who made the call. If the kid did, then it does look like suicide by cop, because he moved fast, in a way that looked like he was reaching for a handgun, in front of 2 or 3 cops spread out, primed by the call.
If it wasn't the kid talking on the phone, but using his phone for the call, then another scenario arises.

LOL exactly the opposite. If cops are threatened they are trained to respond with deadly force, and only to stop when the threat is over, which means dead. That's why the Austin cops kept shooting after the kid was down. They thought he moved, kept shooting.

He called the police. He made up a story about having a gun in his waistband. He reached for his waistband. Suicide by cop.
Now all the family members who drove him to this despair, or delusion, will make millions off his death.

The Ada County Coroner’s Office has identified the man killed in a police shooting Thursday near a canal and gas station at the South Cloverdale and West Overland roads intersection in Boise.
Daniel Konovalov, 32, of Boise, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:13 p.m. as a result of “multiple gunshot wounds,” the coroner’s report said.
The incident began Thursday when a man called 911 at about 9:51 a.m. saying he “wanted to commit suicide,” according to previous Idaho Statesman reporting.
According to Boise Police Capt. Josiah Ransom, who spoke with the media on Thursday after the incident, the man “immediately presented” a knife and did not comply with officers as they tried to de-escalate the situation. Officers tried two “less lethal” blunt-impact rounds, Ransom said, to no avail.
When the man continued to approach officers with a knife, two officers discharged their weapons, Ransom said, and attempted life-saving measures after shooting Konovalov.

Poor cops. They will traumatically live with this, go through the court system that hates cops, and maybe have to move to protect their families. I track these cases but obviously don't disclose relocations. There are many more than you know. It's like a train conductor hitting a suicide on the tracks, only he does not get persecuted.
The reason why they empty their bullets is because in a dimly lit space, they have to make sure he's dead.
Not to worry, Austin. Ben Crump is on the way. And he will find whatever family failed this poor kid and get them appointed representative for the lawsuit.

The professor is misreading her self-awareness. Regardless of her intent, the rhetorical game she was playing made her sound dim. So does her follow-up of, 'Oh, he sounded too calm on the 911 call.' Too calm according to what? Her sensibilities? What gives the professor's sensibilities authority here? The professor does this fairly often: say something dim, then get huffy and insist she was misunderstood. It is us who failed to grasp the clever (read: dim) little game she was playing.

The professor’s post is understandable to a person of normal intelligence. The only objections here come me down to “She didn’t say exactly what I expected in exactly the way I expected her to say it”. Even after she explained her perfectly comprehensible statement, the only other objection is that she said something more nuanced than “cop shoot perp — me like”.
Also, noting that the deceased sounded “too calm” is her opinion , and I don’t see how giving this opinion is “huffy”, or even how at could be misunderstood by a reasonable person. I believe she noted his calmness as a possible reason the police didn’t think he was the person who called, as such a gulf between a calm demeanor and a wildly erratic act of.self destruction is incongruous
Rco in the firearms community, the phrase you were looking for is stop the threat. There’s no such thing to shoot to wound. There is no such thing as shoot to kill. If you’re in a position, where the best action is to shoot your goal is to stop the threat.
