Those who like to call out Trump for his narcissism got a big disappointment last night as the supposed birthday party was not a birthday party at all.

The event was called UFC Freedom 250, and, true to that name, it turned out to be about the UFC and the United States of America.

3 days before his birthday, Trump had said — quoted at USA Today — "You don't have to wish me happy birthday because I'm not happy about that birthday that I'm having. That's a number that I never thought really too much about. It's not a number I like, but I'm here, nevertheless."

And at that huge event on the White House lawn on the evening of his birthday, last night, I don't think there was even a passing mention of his birthday.

All I am seeing is a spontaneous welling-up of the song "Happy Birthday" in the crowd:

If that was planned, it was planned to seem unplanned. It's entirely unconnected to anything happening in the Octagon.

Trump walked out of the White House with some fanfare, but he was side-by-side with Dana White, and that thwarted the hater's interpretation that Trump expected it to be all about him.

He took his seat ringside and mostly just sat there smiling. At the end, he entered the Octagon, but not to be celebrated. He was congratulating the fighters and giving them a photo-op to celebrate themselves.

rehajm: You can still see the UFC at the White House program on Paramount+, so you might still want to hit up your nephew for sign-in and password. Just search for UFC and you will see "UFC at the White House" pop up. I checked this morning out of curiosity when I saw your comment.

UFC is not my cup of tea, but I don't begrudge anyone else enjoying it. Now, would I want to that installation to be permanent? Nope. So what?

Anyway, for those who missed it or want to relive it, see above.

I’m not a fan of fighting sports nor events such as this. However, I don’t understand why those that are fans and are American are somehow supposed to be unwelcome at the White House. I may not be a fan, but I’m not a pretentious asshole that thinks “The People’s House” means that people are not welcome to be at the house. If King Charles can visit, then so can UFC fans, even more so because they are Americans.

I guess people would be happier if it were “American opera,” an art form that could not survive a week if it depended on actual fans.

Actually, I almost wrote that I didn’t complain about Biden’s drag shows, because I didn’t. I do think having a topless trans walk around children is dumb and dangerous, but the notion of celebrating Pride stuff at the White House is just representation. UFC and Pride both have elements that I’m not a fan, but it doesn’t mean others can’t be.

Note, I’m using the word “pretentious” correctly. I don’t pretend to hold the White House as the sacred “The People’s House” and then claim what people aren’t allowed. To be very honest, I find the phrasing “The People’s House” to be Marxist’s tripe. I also recall that Hillary’s (who was in the news this weekend using the phrase) husband is who blocked off most of the grounds around the White House after Oklahoma City bombing. Before then, the White House was much more accessible to the people. Just like the Capitol used to be more accessible before Nancy Pelosi called it “The People’s House” and then guarded it with razor wire and the National Guard.

🚨 THREAD: What do Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, John Bolton, and Elaine Chao have in common? They were all paid by a Marxist-Islamist Iran group that was designated as terrorist until 2012.

No, this is not a joke.

Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MEK) was founded by leftist Islamists to oppose the western-backed Pahlavi, and participated in his 1979 overthrow. Khomeini barred MEK afterwards. MEK was implicated in multiple bombings, including that of Americans, and remained an openly armed group until 2003.

Since they got de-listed as a terrorist organization in 2012 on procedural grounds, MEK and their fronts have been actively recruiting US politicians selling themselves as a moderate alternative to Khomeini. But RAND Corporation says MEK meets the qualifications for a cult, citing criteria such as forcing their members to work 16+ hour days and forced divorces.

Polls of the Iranian-American community shows that they do NOT accept Rajavi, MeK's leader, as legitimate, with a 46-point net disapproval - numbers nearly as bad as the existing regime.

As Pence's former Chief of Staff, Marc Short, has already weighed against Trump deal, it's helpful to recall this.

In 1835, President Andrew Jackson was gifted a massive, 1,400-pound wheel of cheddar by a New York dairy farmer. He let it age in the White House foyer for two years before inviting the public to devour it in February 1837, leaving the White House notoriously smelling of cheese for months.

In 1835, New York dairy farmer Colonel Thomas Meacham crafted a gigantic wheel of cheddar. It measured 4 feet in diameter, 2 feet thick, and weighed a staggering 1,400 pounds. The cheese was ornately decorated with inscriptions like "The Union must be preserved" and was towed to Washington, D.C., in a cart pulled by 24 horses. Jackson kept the cheese sitting in the White House Entrance Hall for two years. As it aged, the pungent aroma filled the halls and the building.

On February 22, 1837—just before the end of his presidency—Jackson invited the public to the White House for a reception, where the mammoth cheese was served alongside apple cider. Thousands of people, from elite politicians to everyday citizens, swarmed the White House. The cheese was completely devoured in just two hours. The aftermath was legendary: the carpets were soaked in grease and cheese, and the lingering dairy smell required his successor, Martin Van Buren, to heavily ventilate the carpets and repaint the walls to get rid of the odor.

In Trump's case, his ego works for us. I think he's motivated to be a great figure in history, but unlike some, he will never get that easy through widespread praise just for representing some ideal alone. He knows this, and accepts it.
This leaves him only one path to greatness: indisputable accomplishments. He needs to actually do things that history and its writers will not be able to dismiss. In my opinion, that's what motivates Trump. He wants to accomplish great things, and he's got little time, and a lot of enemies determined to stop him.

As for what comes after Trump? I think that depends on what he can get done, although what he has accomplished already is unprecedented, and previous thought impossible. Not a bad run, and the whole time the Democrats fighting it all every step of the way.
The voters under a severely compromised and insecure election system is another matter entirely. It's obvious why the Democrats and RINOs fight election integrity so hard, and why the media lies so vigorously. Winning on honest assessment of issues and performance would be impossible for them.
