What is this "leverage" they now have that they didn't have before when they had a navy, an air force, a huge supply of missiles and drones and were about to take delivery of hypersonic glide vehicles from China?

The world needs the Strait of Hormuz reopened. This should have happened months ago, but today’s outcome is the best option now available.
That said, the Iran war has been a disaster. There is no agreement on nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles, or Tehran’s support for proxies. One of the world’s most brutal regimes remains firmly in place—and is even being paid off.
This is the biggest foreign policy failure of the Trump administration by a wide margin.
If I was really interested in keeping the Chinese and Russians beyond arms length, evolving Iran back into into a strategic partner would be a strong move.

I don’t. Everyone forgets that Trump’s entire rise to prominence was about his ability to make deals. He wrote a best selling book about it, he played it for a popular TV series. I have doubts about this “deal,” but I have no doubt that if it falls through that there will be a single bridge, power plant, or oil facility that will be left intact.
If anything Iran will lose the leverage it has had as a result of keeping all those ships trapped in the gulf. If this cease fire lasts, those ships will all escape now in the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile the US Navy has diverted or taken more than 150 Iranian ships. Many others are hiding in port. Iran can't afford that very long. And things could get a lot worse for them while America enjoys the summer and its 250th Anniversary.

A lot of commentary is that this deal is on Iran’s terms. It seemed like we had a successful strangulation strategy-blockading Iran while transiting some oil from our allies.
Of course we are privy to little. But if this deal is as bad as rumored then I wonder if blackmail is involved-captured Seal Team, threats of Eorld Cup terrorism, etc.

This is the worst analysis. We don't get any oil through the strait. It affects the price of oil, of course. It affects our stock market. These effects are minor compared to what it's done to Iran's economy.
Iran can do a little economic damage to the world. But the world can do a huge amount of economic damage to Iran. We've closed their strait. And we've got world financial markets to shut Iran out. Including China (!) and almost all of Iran's neighbors in the Middle East. So the economic damage to Iran has been huge.
The military damage to Iran has been severe. Their army and navy, wiped out. They've got drones and that's about it.
All this happened to Iran because they would not give up their pursuit of the nuke. A nuke-armed Iran, with terrorist proxies, blackmailing the world? Nightmare scenario. Add on the Democrat's open border policy? Iran could just smuggle a nuke into the USA and park it in D.C. or New York City.
I appreciate the Trump administration taking the Iranian nuclear threat seriously and doing something about it.

Checked this morning. Still no real traffic through the Strait. However, like most of the messaging about this war/deal; there was talk of signing a MOU in hours, then some time later this week in Geneva. If I was responsible for a crude carrier, I’d wait for the signed details.

Getting the strait re-opened is the easy part. After that, it's 60 days to reach a nuclear agreement. That's something Iran doesn't want to do, at all. We've got to get all of their nuclear material out of the country.
We've frozen $100 billion to $120 billion in Iranian assets around the world. Only $2 billion is frozen by us. China has frozen $20 billion, Iraq $9 billion, South Korea $7 billion.
The big carrot in these negotiations is to normalize relations, get all of this money unfrozen, and to invite Iran back into the world community. And to reestablish diplomatic relations. The stick is that we can (and will) destroy their country some more.
A major problem is that the leaders of Iran (the IRGC) are scumbags and war criminals. They've robbed their own country and killed their own citizens. We've killed a lot of these guys, but Ahmad Vahidi is still running around. There's a Red Notice on his ass for murdering Jews in Argentina back in 1994. He's the guy who had Soleimani's job (head of Quods Force), before Soleimani took it.
I'm sure Vahidi and other members of the IRGC have no desire to normalize relations, or stop being a terrorist state, or give up their plans for nukes. They want money to fund further terrorism.

The UAE was contemplating freezing Iranian assets back in March, according to the WSJ.
There was no announcement, but apparently they did freeze $20 billion in IRGC assets.
The UAE has approached Bessent about a "currency-swap line of credit" in April. The Emiratis emphasized that they had so far avoided the worst economic effects of the conflict but might still need a financial lifeline, the officials said.
The UAE has agreed to unlock $20 billion, Al-jazeera is reporting. Which means they locked up $20 billion earlier this year. UAE denies that it's released any funds.
“The United Arab Emirates has categorically denied reports circulating in some international media outlets regarding the transfer or conversion of any funds from the UAE to the Islamic Republic of Iran, including claims concerning $3 billion,” the ministry said, adding that “no frozen Iranian funds have been released, transferred, or moved through the UAE.”
