Lazarus said...: Watching the Norwegian film "Sentimental Reasons" with Stellan Skarsgard. It's very well done, but not really gripping for me, and definitely not good "second screen viewing." At one point some old-fashioned jazz featuring a clarinet starts up. It's the beginning of a flashback to the 1940s. I think everyone watching the film must have thought "Woody Allen music" ("Annie Hall" is near the top of the director's all-time top ten list). Also nice to see an oft-recurring theme of amazement at how friendly Americans are, how open.

After a month or so, I guess we all know sooner or later, some poor sap is going to be arrested upon return to England for something he posted while enjoying the World Cup party.

At the request of her son she visited a well known MMA gym to buy a t-shirt, and they were showered with gifts even though she spoke little English. Even those cultured Europeans like MMA. Big Mike said...: When I first started commenting on Althouse (1) the blogger tool checked that any open HTML tags were correctly closed, (2) there was a PREVIEW function that let me look for typos and other issues before posting, and (3) I could see a trash can icon that let me delete a comment that had problems. That remains to be seen. Trump is trying to broker a 300billion deal. The Chinese inked a 400billion deal in 2021. There is a reason the Iranian hardliners aren't happy with this. I'd think the Chinese can't be all that thrilled either. It will take years to find out if Trump's reach has exceeded his grasp on this one.; 6/20/26, 3:37 AM

There’s another thing I’ve written and spoken about that Dr Fauci didn’t tell the truth about but nobody else flagged.
As he was going on comedy shows and testifying to Congress early on that Covid was “ten times deadlier than flu,” he actually co-published a scientific paper stating the opposite: Covid was about like a bad flu season.
At the time, I called his office for an interview — and although he was never shy, he wouldn’t agree to an interview with me.
I then asked his office to explain which of his statements was correct. One or the other had to be false, by definition.
Fauci’s office declined to answer.
