There was a time, until 2024, where Obama felt his presidency had been vindicated, in spite of Trump I. But following Trump’s reelection, I think even Obama has come to realize that a large part of his legacy has been repudiated, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the towering monolith in his honor serves as a reminder of that humiliation to him.

That reminds me of the poster in the rear window of an SUV crossover parked at the Freedom From Religion Foundation ("Freethought Hall) in 2008. It was a photo of Barack Obama, looking upward to his left, with a saintly halo from back light. It was rather like iconography, underscored with the word "HOPE."

Tell you what, boy. You take any transcript of an Obama speech - and any transcript of a Trump speech - and count off the number of I, Me, Mines and report back on what you find.

Obama never had a real non government non NGO job so his library was organized like government and NGO spending. He spent 6 times more than the Regan library in inflation adjusted $ but it was poorly controlled and will not have a good life cycle. He is embarrassed now because it shows he lacks skills. Next he will be dismissive about it and rarely visit.
6 times the cost is a good estimate for the DEI Woke premium for mandatory minority contractors. Perhaps a bit high, 2 to 3 times at minimum.
Obama got a 99 year lease on 19 acres of prime Chicago lakefront property for $10. A billion dollar gift from the city, and he won’t pay property tax, unless a token.
If Obama was smart he would have donated his Hyde Park mansion as a library and he would have looked like a humble genius.
And after donating his mansion he could have got donations to buy up little areas around Chicago. Michelle’s dad was a pump operator for the Chicago Water District, he could have a little few acre park where he worked, and a park along the tracks on Roosevelt between the Ryan and Ashland where black mechanics ran the train yards in the ‘40s. He could have been a black hero instead of being ashamed.
Can you imagine what it would get you to buy the place where your wife’s dad worked all his life and make a national historic monument out of it? Imagine what that would get a man.
