Says an online petition seeking an end to the use of anime in political satire, quoted in "Trump draws anger in Japan with ‘disrespectful’ cartoon fakes/Fans of anime have called for action against the US president, who posts AI-generated clips of himself as their comic-book heroes" (London Times).
The Air Pirates were a group of cartoonists who published two issues of an underground comic called Air Pirates Funnies in 1971. The comic featured a satirical version of Mickey Mouse (never referred to by his full name) who was positioned as a symbol of conformist hypocrisy in American culture. The comic also depicted other well-known Disney characters engaging in adult behaviors such as sex and drug consumption.
Air Pirates founder Dan O'Neill wanted the comic to be noticed by the Disney company and arranged for copies to be smuggled into board meetings. Disney executives became aware of the comic and sued the Air Pirates for copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and unfair competition....
You can read issue #1 of Air Pirates here. Cover shows the treasured intellectual property rodent replete with the full name Wikipedia says Air Pirates never used:
BONUS: I was inspired look up this passage in the Bob Woodward/Scott Armstrong book, "The Brethren" (which wasn't as on-topic as I'd remembered but makes a relevant point about the humor of desecration):
Rehnquist slipped into the conference room one day and took his seat.
He pulled a magazine from his stack of papers. The National Lampoon, a humor magazine, had just released its February issue. The centerfold was entitled “Amicae Curiae”—Friends of the Court—and it depicted, in a color cartoon, all nine of the Justices engaged in a variety of sexual activity.
The Chief, naked except for holster and pistol, was on the floor licking the boot of an otherwise naked young woman.
Brennan was standing in front of two very young girls holding his robe open.
Stewart was measuring the throat of a young woman with a ruler, apparently in preparation for oral sex.
Rehnquist, clad in a woman’s bra and red garter belt, was parading before the others cracking a black whip.
White, a blindfold partially covering his glasses, was apparently engaged in some taxing sexual activity, though the cartoon did not make it clear what that activity was.
Powell was kneeling naked, his hands bound together, while a black woman in underwear marked “Exhibit A” flogged him.
Marshall stood by the side of the bench doing nothing but looking up at Douglas, who sat alone on the bench with a naked young boy at his side.
Blackmun was sodomizing a kangaroo.
Chuckling, Rehnquist passed the issue around the table. Most of them laughed. The Chief [Warren Burger] was angered both by the cartoon and the fact that it had been brought into conference.
Afterward, Marshall sent a clerk to buy extra copies for his college-age children.
Brennan proudly told his clerks that while every other Justice was portrayed engaging in some sexual activity, he was pictured protecting several young children by blocking their view with his robe.
His clerks decided that they owed it to him to explain “flashing.”
Blackmun told his clerks how funny the centerfold was, especially the portion depicting Rehnquist “in drag.” The only problem, Blackmun said, was that he couldn’t figure out what he was supposed to be doing with the kangaroo.
The clerks drew straws to see who would tell him.
ADDED: The more grim, puritanical, humorless, imperious, and repressive you are, the funnier it is to make fun of you.

Censorship is always the answer, aina?
Trump pushes all the boundaries and all the buttons he can. The next president will bore the hell out of people.
I tell ya, they don’t get no respect.
They love Trump in Japan by the way.
This is a really stupid story for stupid people to read.
The inability to stand being mocked is going to end the world.
…Americans may see London Times and think foreign press different than us US press but in DC all the same. This is their turn to help the leftie faithful get through another miserable morning…
The British media is owned by the same people that own the American media
AI is democratizing satire, making the mockery of bloated egos via AV production available to the masses. Anyone with time and modest resources can be a satirical content creator. The highest use of AI satire should be mocking the State Fellator and former satire eminence SNL. If the mockery of SNL is funnier than the show itself then mission accomplished!
Having just retired that might in fact be the best use of my time and sick sense of humor. I trained AI to do my job. Now training AI to mock inflated egos could be my job.
Er… my hobby. Not sure if mockery can be monetized easily and be a “job.”
Today the Left and a satire publication wouldn't begin to think of doing similar cartoons featuring Elena, Sonia and KBJ. FACT.
I am completely ignorant about Japanese cartoon art, but the Japanese have been famous for cartoon porn for centuries. How is a spoof a "desecration?"
I don't think people realize how easy it is to use Ai to make pictures and video. Here's the steps I used to create my "don't be a Monica"
clip
1) open Grok. Free X account is fine
2) use search to find a Pic of bill & monica
3) import the Pic to Grok by clicking on it
4)write the prompt "Monica smiles at Bill and says I'll swallow anything. Bill grins, flashes a thumbs up and say I'm Bill Clinton and I approve this message. Add a don't be a Monica caption"
5) click, wait 30 seconds, enjoy.
I use the don't be a Monica line and video on gullible people at Bluesky daily

Marshall stood by the side of the bench doing nothing but looking up at Douglas,
The brave envelope-pushers knew that bravery requires knowing when to strategically play it safe.
Achilles beat me to it. Trump is HUUUUUGGGGE in Japan.
We don't know how real this movement and this outrage is. It may be something the media created as much as discovered.
Japan likes to be a Western society and also a non-Western society defending itself against the incursions of the West. Japan has a long tradition of great prints, but manga seems like a product of Japan's Westernizing era and anime more like a product of postwar Americanization. Astroboy (the Mighty Atom) is more a product of the post-occupation era than anything ancient and purely indigenous.
Reads like a 'things that didn't happen' story.
I remember that issue of National lampoon. The database says it was Vol. 1, No. 47, (February 1974), "Strange Sex."
A thought occurred to me while I was mowing my lawn. I very much doubt that Trump creates these Anime style clips, he is just reposting them. Someone else, probably a fan of Trump, is creating them. I am reminded of my friend whining about Trump attending sporting events.
Somebody files a lawsuit and the mediaswine tell us the Japanese are upset with Trump. BFD!
Wow, haven’t thought of Last Gasp comix in years. Such a wonderful stable of artists: Gilbert Shelton, S Clay Wilson, R Crumb ( of course), Bill Griffith, Justin Green, ….
Fans of anime need to get over themselves.
They also need to get a life.
I remember encountering a pornographic flipbook (referred to as a Mexican Bible). The one I saw had Popeye, Bluto, and Olive Oil but I was told Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto were also available.

Yes, Trump should post a riff on Dream of the Fisherman's Wife. Trump the octopus giving America an orgasm. CC, JSM
