Anyway, I think Maher came in wanting to reduce Pratt to the nothing he believed he was — a washed up reality show star who's pissed that his own house burned down — but Pratt prevailed and I think by the end Maher either felt supportive or wanted to manufacture some last-minute evidence that he had backed the winner.

I'll have to watch that later. I'm going against all the big name prognosticators and calling it for Pratt. I think he can knit together a 50% +1 day (assuming fraud is minimized) and the votes should be counted today. The left waited too long to counter him and he gained momentum at an advantageous time. He's spent the last two weeks in East LA, Watts, Jungle Town and Rolling 60s territory, places 90% non-white where the other pols never go. He drew massive crowds everywhere and his key, as he has said over and over, is "Moms want a safer city." Brown people are going to send the DEI hire packing.

Call me crazy, but if a woman had large breasts and then, at a later date, her breasts are smaller there would seem to be only two choices. One, she had breast augmentation and then decided to have the implants removed. Two, she was naturally endowed and decided to have breast reduction surgery to relieve lower back pain. Neither one of those situations are in the least bit embarrassing. In fact, celebrities get on social media to announce that they have done one or the other. If Maher thought he was going to "destroy" Pratt with that question then he is an even bigger idiot than I thought he was.

Manchin showed his true colors (yellow not blue) when he started to stand during a Trump state of the Union speech in his first term. He started up and then sat back down when Shumer's basilisk stare (I kid) threatened him. Manchin had the opportunity when he was the decisive vote to put Shumer's balls in a vise and squeeze until the New York senator turned red, but he just meekly went along. He was born a democrat machine politician and didn't even know what the policy positions of either party actually were.

LA is not my city and I knew nothing about Pratt until very recently. But we listened to an interview with him while we were en route to Toronto, and... I did not expect him to acquit himself so well.

I generally like Maher, but he does have a "bad little boy" streak that I suspect comes out more when he drinks and smokes. Plus, he is a torn man. He sees himself as a solid Democrat but he is constantly pulling his hair out about the way that the Democrats, especially in Los Angeles, have gone way too far left.
Maher tries too hard to convince people he's smart. That seems to be a thing with many atheists. I'm not sure which comes first, the pretentiousness or the atheism. I'm a hard-core agnostic, which is like being a meat-eating vegan. I assume I'm wrong, I just don't know which way.

I agree with Howard at 10:52. All the weird stuff about Pratt came up, but in a conversational way. Pratt presented himself well, and Maher offered him an opportunity to present himself well. Maher doesn't indulge in Perry Mason moments. He has his opinions, and he lets his guests put forth their opinions.....I'm not particularly supportive of Maher's opinions, but he generally gives all his guests a fair chance to express themselves.

I had to google this, since I have no idea who Spencer Pratts wife is, let alone "the tit story". Seems she got a gigantic boob job, then found the big boobs were giving her back pain, so she got them reduced.

As a former L.A. resident for four decades, I can assure you L.A. voters are not capable of helping themselves out of the pit they have dug, and the Dem machine would never let them. It would take an incredibly strong grass roots effort that just isn't the ideology of the people of L.A.
If Pratt did somehow get 60% of the real vote, the machine might not be able to over come that much, but that's what it would take just to end up with 50%. If he became mayor, the machine would destroy everything he tried. There are too many people making too much money off of the corruption.
I agree with Howard. I like Maher and agree with him 80% of the time. I think Maher likes Pratt and was not trying to ambush him. Don't watch Maher regularly but see his clips all the time. He is pretty honest and will say things where his audience just freezes.

Maher's difficulties with the Democrats relate to the absence of a limiting principle in progressive politics. Most right wingers have guardrails on their freedom oriented agenda - no force, no fraud, no religious or racial discrimination, etc. People who cross those lines are to be condemned. Dems such as Maher have a utopian equality-based end point of some ineffable description and a willingness to allow the end to justify the means. That's why they can't condemn leftists like Sanders, Mamdani, AOC, or Warren. The extremists are presumed to have good goals but tactical impatience. The disagreement is merely tactical.

I think he's a reliable Democrat in what he puts on the air, especially in the past. I think Maher took a big chance. He was ordered to do a show on election day on Pratt and destroy him by insulting his wife and Jesus on air thereby causing Pratt to blow up in some way. But Pratt did not blow up. So the net is Maher gave Pratt a lot of coverage on election day when many people were asking about Pratt for the first time.
Really, Maher should have known that anyone who has been in the Hollywood life but not as a star has faced malice and pettiness about their life many, many times. Reagan, Trump Maher - the people who can handle the media of today are the people who were accustomed to Hollywood or the New York scene. It seems that the media are just another version of that kind of pettiness. The issues Trump and Pratt speak about are enormous - the life and death, no less, of a great country and a great city - and the "reporters" on their efforts are on the level of old-time gossip columnists - fat women in tent-like dress accessorized with rhinestone sunglasses. The wrong color lipstick is smeared on. It's pettiness all the way down.
