When politicians make claims, how often do they cite actual sources? How often does the press report that they didn't? How reliable are the sources that they do cite? If Trump had cited one of the reports about election fraud, wouldn't the newspaper still have said "without evidence."

I was reliably informed that as soon as Republicans controlled Congress, all of the surveillance tapes would be released. For a brief window of time, they were. But since then, the subject has been dropped into the Dome of Silence.

I laughed when K. Welker said that "I traveled all the way to Wisconsin". I went back and listened again, because I thought she said it more than once. I was right, not once, not twice, but three times. It reminded me of the famous quote when the Hindenburg went down - "Oh the humanity". I see that the interview was in Chippewa Falls, so she flew from DC to Minneapolis - woot woot!
In Clint Eastwood movies the drifter stands in front of 5 laughing town guys and they trade insults for a moment. In Trump interviews the only thing missing is the final shootout where one or the other side dies.
The substitute is having your staged event with POTUS ended by having him leave. That makes the event ambiguous. POTUS does not consider you worthy, but you can try to claim that you won by driving him off.
Trump’s willingness to engage in interviews with an obviously hostile press is quire remarkable.

The way the elections are run in California --
1. The voting rolls are a mess, there are maybe 800K invalid voters due to death, moving away, duplicates:
"The numbers most often cited by groups advocating aggressive voter-roll cleanup are: About 873,000 long-term inactive registrations that a recent lawsuit alleges should have been removed under federal law. These are not necessarily fraudulent registrations; they are voters whose records remained inactive through multiple federal election cycles. A 2025 study by the Public Interest Legal Foundation estimated approximately 94,500 deceased registrants, 57,700 interstate duplicates, and several thousand additional questionable records."
2. Ballots are sent out en mass. Literally millions of ballots sent out, filled in, and then are placed inside envelopes and returned through the USPS or drop boxes. Each mail in ballot is "verified" by a person by comparing the signature on the ballot envelope with the signature on the voter registration file. Allowances are made for the fact that people's handwriting changes over time. Where there is a question about the authenticity of the signature the ballot is separated and the is person notified and allowed to come in to rectify their ballot.
California law also has provisions for ballots with missing or illegible postmarks. In certain circumstances, if the voter signed and dated the ballot envelope on or before Election Day, the ballot may still be considered timely. Ballots are received for a week after election day.
3. After signature verification envelopes and ballots are separated. Ballots, which at that point are not identifiable, are processed and counted. Envelopes are stored for about 6 months and then destroyed. Ballots are stored for 2 years.
4. Recounts are possible to verify the count totals but obviously have no efficacy in identifying fraudulent ballots.
