"At some point in the not too distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points, and assume total control of their Oil and Gas Markets..."

"... much like we have with Venezuela, which is working out brilliantly for both Venezuela and the United States of America. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening. Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others. The Naval Blockade will remain in full force and effect until this Transaction is finalized — Time and place of the signing to be announced shortly.

DONALD J. TRUMP
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

So "discussions" have been approved. That doesn't sound like an agreement. But there is "this Transaction." That too doesn't sound like an agreement, and yet it is something that can be "finalized" and signed, which does sound like an agreement.

Trump has shown he's not restrained by what people will say about his actions and policies. He's willing to do just about anything that makes sense to him, like it or not. None of us know what the intelligence is about what's feasible, how the various scenarios war-game out, what the regime is capable of, and what other nations are offering or threatening. Whatever all that is, it has Trump wanting to avoid bringing the hammer down unless all else fails. We don't know the calculus, but I'm confident the restraint is not due to weakness, but rather strategy and long term outcome in the bigger geopolitical balance. It's fascinating that Trump is the one being more restrained than a lot of us want.

With Islamists? It turned out exactly as expected. We only get Trump's public version, and that may have nothing to do with what's actually happening. 1st) It's gamesmanship. 2nd) There is no secure leadership in Iran to make decisions that stick and control all the factions and their weapons. Caesar wanted to be permanent dictator

That is a slander of a great man.

Caesar wanted to restore the strength of the Republic and give up power to newly elected consuls as soon as it was safe to do so. He only crossed the Rubicon because his rivals and enemies in Rome were already scheming against him, with a conspiracy to use the Roman equivalent of lawfare to do what the Deep State scum did to Trump under Biden - the difference being, the Roman version would have involved torture and death, so he really had no choice. He refused a royal crown three times! But his rivals figured the fact that his fans and followers loved him enough to offer him the crown was reason enough to murder him.

History could have been much different without the assassination of Caesar. There might have been a Roman Republic mission to the moon a thousand years ago.

The overwhelming majority of Pakistanis are Sunni. Shia Muslims do not rule the country.

I note that a lot of people here who call Trump an absolute idiot, also refer Iran as though it was a country with a functioning central government - as in "Iran will do this" or "Iran has played Trump again." The likely reality is that there is no cohesive functioning central government in Iran. It strikes me also that Tump may be shredding the internal cohesiveness of what is attempting to function as a central government, and couldn't care less that his U.S. detractors are counting the number of times he "lied" or "said the deal was done." Or whatever. I read one commenter saying that Trump saying that "A deal is imminent" is likely a move to cause internal strain between the various parties and factions in Iran. I don't know. But I do know that Trump's detractors don't know either.

Hassayamper: "History could have been much different without the assassination of Caesar. There might have been a Roman Republic mission to the moon a thousand years ago."

Really? Wouldn't the Republic have continued to rely on slavery? And slavery is an innovation-killer. One of the answers to my favorite historical questions - why wasn't the printing press invented much earlier - is because the Romans had slave scribes to do all the copying. No incentive to come up with labor-saving devices.

And any improved efficiency from a continued Republic, fighting for family and honor rather than fear, would have been used to conquer even more ground and take even more slaves, exacerbating the innovation-killing effect.

But you apparently have thought about this. What's your counterhistorical chain of events from a surviving Caesar to Luna Nostra? CC, JSM

I believe there is truth to this. We don't know who is in charge or whether anyone is actually in charge. How the fuck do you negotiate with a failed state? The official Iranian channels say they have no clue what Trump is even talking about regarding a peace deal. So is Trump making it all up to sooth the markets or is the US negotiating with scam artists who have no actual authority in Iran? Who the fuck knows.

It ain't good. I do not know where the breakdown occurred but I know its well past the promised 6-weeks so we know with certainty there was a breakdown. You can try to polish this turd how ever you like but it ain't good.

How come you have been wrong about everything then?

Iran was out of the fight months ago. Nobody even knows who is going to sign the agreement for them.

Trump has drug this out long enough to end any thought of BRICS currency and to make sure everyone is buying oil with dollars.

Now there wont be any question. The dollar is the reserve currency and the globalist effort to take out the dollar is finished. The EU capitulated a few days ago.

I bought gas for 3.50$ today. Trump can wrap this up just in time for driving season to end in September and to start seeing < $3 gas by midterms.

The Abraham accords will probably still be in the news around then and Ukraine will be joining the EU after Russia secures their land bridge.

I know your question was rhetorical but I want to rub salt in the wound.

Iranian and Venezuelan oil are going on the open market now. China is going to have to buy oil with US dollars. That means the supply of oil available to people using US dollars is far higher and the price for oil bought with US dollars will be lower.

Chinese military equipment will no longer be a substitute for buying oil. The Chinese will pay dollars for oil and the US will pay fewer dollars for oil because more is available for dollars.

It is a really simple concept. The price of gasoline will see decade lows and it is because Trump has dealt with the structural problem that kept our gas and oil prices higher than they should have been.
