I love it. Watch the Commies squeal. The depiction of Mayor Largemouth Bass is perfect.
perfect
It properly respects the source material in every way.
Framing the DNC machine in the final stage of the House of Bourbon is spot on.
I went with “Brilliant use…”, with the proviso (unlisted) of whether or not it’s politically effective. Pratt is GOP, so whether or not it’s effective in LA is probably irrelevant.
But, I’ve often thought of the Democratic Party as the Batman villains. The Dems are always on the side of criminals and gangs. Seems to turn them on.
In Georgia political ads they are called “failed career politicians”.
I was watching Adam Carolla's interview of Spenser Pratt. Pratt is living in an Air Stream on his burned out lot in Pacific Palisades. He has some good ideas for LA. And LA needs them.
There is exactly one house being rebuilt on the beach in Malibu.
When you elect leftists you get LA.
Spencer Pratt has evolved.
Joe Rogan as police commissioner?
Weren't you all lamenting, just the other day, how it is the left that is fomenting violence and encouraging assassination attempts. And then Althouse spreads this garbage (as an academic exercise of course, she even set up a silly poll).
Of course, you love it.
Bass with Joker makeup looks a lot like I think Tim Walz would look like with Joker makeup.
It fits for LA, as the Hollywood theme is routine.
For good or bad, the satire is indistinguishable from true life -- see real content circa the 2020 BLM "take a knee" in African garb and SF poop/shoplifting through the 2022 Sam Brinton and Mary Poppins Ministry of Disinformation era. KBJ still keeps hope alive with her surreal 8-1 losses.
What has been interesting is the way the Democrats have tried to villify Pratt. Saying that he 'lives with his parents', which is true, but as I understand it, because of the fires. Moving in the trailer was a good idea, but again, it's downplayed as a publicity stunt, treating the stunt as more noteworthy than the reason for it: abysmal response from the government, dragging out permits and trying to wear out residents to keep them from rebuilding, so that the acreage can be rezoned for apartments. And so on.
They really don't feel particularly compelled to be responsive to the frustrations that are being felt as a consequence of LA's and California's policy choices. We'll see.
I was talking to a couple of native born Californians yesterday, now in their 70s. They're doing the math, they've looked at a couple of Del Webb communities in neighboring states, they dread moving but they are seriously thinking about it and investing their time in doing the homework. If California has an exodus collapse, it will have a profound effect on the US.
Not for me, but I'm not the audience.
There’s plenty of violence in the Batman movies so the tomato throwing is minor.
But what was Marco doing in the ad?
Was that Hugh Jackman in the ad?
"...And then Althouse spreads this garbage..."
How many real-life violent events have come to pass against Progressives minding their own business, Fredo? Politically-themed violence from conservatives, for the crime of being liberal? Is the number greater than zero? I haven't heard of any, have you?
I vote for LMFAO! "Whiteface on a black woman"... Uh oh, somebody did a racism!!!! So close to Juneteenth and Black History Month, too!
If Republicans were the targets gettijg assaulted at a banquet everyone would say it was an obvious call to violence and how dare the nasty violent left produce such dangerous filth. If *Trump* were the target it would be viewed as an "assassination threat" and they would be prosecuted.
Great ad. Pratt has had a number of great ads now. But it won't help. LA is about to go full Mamdani and elect a socialist, Nithya Raman.
LA does not have much margin for error as their civil society is degrading by the week. Raman will have the effect of pushing it over the edge. Good luck to all Angelenos.
Note well the full spectrum of races and ages throwing the rotten tomatoes. Looks like LA.
The year in review.
No, Freder, we love it because it's not really an ad but a documentary of what your team is doing to LA, California, and our nation.
@Freder --
The left has been in a breathless TDS rage since election night 2016. They laid out their goals by early 2017 per Madonna's "blow up the White House" and the fake severed head and the NYC Shakespeare play with a simulated assassination of Trump.
Real TDS actions have been nonstop ever since, to include 3 attempts against Trump, Charlie Kirk, structured lawfare, kangaroo courts, and much, much more.
Generating a film-themed satire in the land of filmmaking hardly compares. The left loved Harvey Weinstein before Trump. The left gave Polanski a standing ovation in 2003. The left fully accepted Trump as one of their own before 2016.
This era is about violent, tyranical, corrupt lefties enforcing Party discipline against NYC centrist Trump during a war of retrenchment, not the right wing.
The message is brilliant - the CA elites are lying liars that lie, and the peeps have called Pratt to lead the revolt because they are not having any more of it. The animation is amazing.
Honestly, how could Bass ever compete with or combat Pratt’s messaging?
Yes bass the communist revolutionary who has become the wesley snipes character in demolition man
Fredo masturated for 36 hours straight when he learned that 12 Normies burned to death in the Palisades Fire. Not that “straight” and he belong in the same sentence
Alexandria the attack on rand paul, the attack on law enforcement since 2020
Whatever you may think of clowns and mimes, they are rarely considered racist as a group like 19th and early 29th century American "minstrels".
IOW, white face and black face are not the same.
No Freder, playing by your rules now!
Also the world of that dystopia wirh ralph fiennes
Isn't it interesting that all these highly evolved, virtuous progressives are now openly on the same side as Mamdani, Bass, Wu, and other nutjob Democrats who protect and work to release actual murderers, rapists, and other violent criminals. And yet, here they are lecturing us about a satiric tomato-throwing fantasy video as "violence". Now THAT is funny.
Marco is doing his DJ thing.
accurate.
I don't like it. It's too online. I don't think there's anything wrong with portraying Bass and Newsome as out of touch aristocrats. But it's weird to include Kamala and the Marco gag. He first ad in his trailer was much better.
I think libel law needs to make it easier to sue people for AI portrayals. Even if it's parody or criticism, if they want to use your likeness, it should actually be you.
There is such a law in la (which newsom has violated)
Shouting Thomas said... I’ve often thought of the Democratic Party as the Batman villains. The Dems are always on the side of criminals and gangs.
And they look like freaks.
https://open.substack.com/pub/ngocomment/p/exclusive-seattle-far-left-activist?
Poor greedy leftists. I hope their delicate corrupt feelings aren't hurt.
I think the ad needs a lot of work. It looks rushed.
Portraying the democrats as elite hollywood royalty - I like it and it is way past time.
Hunger games.
Put a bullet in Trump's head.
Throw a tomato at Bass.
Exactly the same.
Both sides.
End of story.
Because local stations would air it unlikely
That said - the ad on balance is effective. and true.
Democrats are taking our tax dollars and building their corrupt society with those tax dollars. Everything on the left is a pocket lining scam. cultist democrats are OK with it - because they hate Trump.
Did it excite YOU, ann?
Wetten your pussy for your hard lil man?
Violence.... mmm, sexually entertaining?
You are a sick fuck.
Glad you two found each other.
Sick violent fucks.
The tomato throwing part is very satisfying.
My answer — as perhaps you can tell — was "Excellent but devolves into physical violence that distracted me from the message."
It's worse than what James Comey was indicted for. More like the severed head of Trump held up by Kathy Griffin.
I went cold when the "revolution" began with striking the oligarchs with objects, specifically objects that resemble blood. I especially objected to showing Kamala Harris hit in the eye. That's too close to things that could happen in real life.
I voted against the acting out of violence, which I think is a poor choice for a political ad, given the emotions that tend to run hot, especially in these polarized times. I think Pratt looks stupid masquerading as a super hero - his A.I. character doesn't pull it off, and his real-life persona doesn't appear to align with Bruce Wayne's maverick nature, either; it's just a recognizable thematic element. Bass as The Joker is much more convincing, as is Gavin.
People won't be voting for a dark superhero. They'll be voting for leadership, and leadership is mostly ideas translating into action. This is just pandering to frustration. Why not put some rapier wit on the line? Why not point out how quickly you'll lift Angelenos out of their despair? I always think it's much better to show how you're a better thinker, if you want to persuade people to vote for you.
There used to be an old Pace Picante Sauce ad where cowboys sitting around the campfire run out, and the cook gives them a bottle of something that is not Pace brand, made in, GASP! NEW YORK CITY! The tagline of the ad was one cowboy quietly saying, "Get a rope."
Well, the issue of governance is more important than picante sauce. I'd suggest the ad does not go far enough in its treatment of scum politicians and perhaps tar, feathers, and a fence rail should be involved.
Labrea probably has enough tar
"I think libel law needs to make it easier to sue people for AI portrayals. Even if it's parody or criticism, if they want to use your likeness, it should actually be you."
A disclaimer saying it's AI would do the trick without chilling expression. And what about political cartoons, or that 80's political ad featuring an actor who looked like Tip O'Neill?
"It's worse than what James Comey was indicted for. More like the severed head of Trump held up by Kathy Griffin."
Except here nobody is portraying or calling for anyone's murder. They're throwing tomatoes, not hand grenades.
I don't like the tomato throwing, especially by kids. It's not necessary to drive the message home, IMHO. That aside, until a high-ranking Democrat survives three a**a**ination attempts, the Leftists complaining about this commercial can go piss up a rope.
In the middle of the ad, when the Pratt character holds a baseball bat or club or something, I thought , "Oh, no, this is going to get violent and go off in a bad way," but then when they were just basically having a food fight with tomatoes, I was relieved and thought it was a good ad. Throwing rotten tomatoes is a long standing tradition of protest in the theater, is it not?
It's a cartoon. Little kids throwing tomatoes is violent?
A squishy tomato is not even going to cause injury. Perhaps a good eye wash will do.
The REDDIT leftist demcoratic MURDERED Charlie Kirk with a real "hey fascist catch" bullet.
This is absolutely not on the same level as a severed head.
"People won't be voting for a dark superhero. They'll be voting for leadership, and leadership is mostly ideas translating into action. This is just pandering to frustration. Why not put some rapier wit on the line? Why not point out how quickly you'll lift Angelenos out of their despair? I always think it's much better to show how you're a better thinker, if you want to persuade people to vote for you"
He has other videos and communications. One message per ad is a good way to get your point across or else you risk muddying the waters.
What Mason G said. It's throwing tomatoes, not raising a severed head. It is lighthearted.
Fact is, however, Trump supporters want no actual physical harm to come to Kamala or Newsom as putative front runners crowding-out any potential normies.
"I went cold when the "revolution" began with striking the oligarchs with objects, specifically objects that resemble blood. I especially objected to showing Kamala Harris hit in the eye. That's too close to things that could happen in real life."
I thought Wisconsinites were of tougher stock.
A PROPAGANDIZED LEFTIST REDDIT white male - was groomed by the corrupt left - and he shot and killed Charlie Kirk.
"specifically objects that resemble blood"
It's a vaudeville, lady. There's a reason it's called rottentomatoes.com
A thrown squishy fruit will not maim or kill. it will humiliate.
Why do you platform violence?
Google Melissa Hortman and her husband and what happened at their homes. It was a political hit, not an attempt.
Shame on you for exposing your sick fuck audience to this "excellent" entertainment....
Have you tried reading books? Does meade let you, even if he can't read or think himself?
The Hugh Jackman cameo is nice.
I think it would be better to end it at about 1/3 through before the super hero and resolve. The beginning makes you want to pick up the tomato (vote). The end makes you think someone else will do it for you.
I liked the image of the "normals" who are fed up with democrat corruption and ineptitude - throwing fruit.
"I don't like the tomato throwing, especially by kids. "
One of the most contentious issues currently is that children have to walk through homeless encampments in parts of Los Angeles to get to school.
Whomever said this is a bit "too online" is correct. Pratt most likely won't win. He doesn't have the numbers nor the graft to make that happen in a place like LA.
In CA, and especially L.A. where I lived for 40 years, the truth is the most damning, and the best political weapon, but it still has to go up against lies, and California voters are easy marks. That's the very reason I left. I could see that they were going to be fooled over and over, and they have been.
CA voters with the highest gas prices in the nation actually voted to raise gas taxes. How are you going to fix that?
In blue cities - the corrupt democratics are using the homeless and the durgged-out for votes. No chain of custody makes it easy for their cultists to say "You have no proof"
90% of Californians want change, but only 40% will vote for it.
I'll put it a different way: I condemn incitements to violence that play off frustrations and that can spur people into action. It's pandering and manipulation. We are seeing the fruits of that now, every week at least. Suggestible minds acting out - and glorification of same.
Actual hostility on the part of truly beleaguered citizens against the politicians who have been preaching political violence - I would find hard to condemn.
Please pass the ketchup! Best use of tomatoes in a long, long time.
Most states are redder than we think. The corrupt left have been successful with their voting cheat machine.
“CA voters with the highest gas prices in the nation actually voted to raise gas taxes. How are you going to fix that?”
I have a good friend who lived in Carlsbad, Ca. and who sold his home and moved to Helena, MT after that vote.
He said when a state’s voters support a tax that was so not in the voters’ best interest, you can’t fix that and it’s time to move on to greener, more intelligent pastures.
It was in 2018. I moved out right after that vote too, although I decided earlier.
The vote rejected a bill to repeal previous gas taxes, and require future ones to be voted on. They voted against their own power to decide, and now they pay the most and are getting unwanted new taxes added. To be in CA and vote to trust the politicians more is about as dysfunctional as a citizen can be.
This ad was not done by Spencer Pratt. It's a viral ad by one of his supporters. Spencer's campaign did not produce it. Does that change your perspective?
Virtual Republicans throw AI generated tomatoes at images of politicians who tried to burn them to death versus real Democrats attempting to commit actual murder against Trump and other Republicans. Althouse clutches her pearls and drops gracefully down upon her fainting couch.
Shorter Althouse: Democrats should have an exclusive monopoly on violent political imagery.

Scary stuff. Part of the reason the left are so successful in deceiving voters is they way they present it.
If Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom were buried under a truckload of tomatoes in an accident on the I-5, would anyone really find that to be a tragedy?
Corruptocrats are held to a different standard.
I recall someone attending a Kathy Griffin comedy show?
How could you.
Fredo's grandma died in a freak tomato attack, so cut him some slack.
Fredo masturated for 36 hours straight when he learned that 12 Normies burned to death in the Palisades Fire. Not that “straight” and he belong in the same sentence
Had to look up "masturate" just to make sure it wasn't a reference to Somali day cares in Minnesota .
How old are you Big Mike? From the level of maturity in this comment I would guess 12 or 13. Calling me gay is so mature.
Charlie Kirk gets a bullet. A real one. His young children will grow up without their father. All because modern leftism is actually nazism.
the left lie and say "you killed him, not us"
I have nothing to say to that but F*CK all LEFTISTS.
oh no! Cartoon tomatoes. Those poor poor sad humiliated delicate leftist criminals.
I agree the Comey indictment is too much, although I haven't seen what the grand jury did; there are zero threats of death or even injury in this video. The threats only include ridicule, embarrassment, needing a bath, and, admittedly, assault.
If it’s predetermined I’m going to lose an election then I’m going down swinging.
Y'all do realize it's not the campaigns ad, it's an ad created and distributed by third party supporters.
Relatively harmless, non-Democrat violence. It and the superhero stuff interfere with the best message.
Some things are a hit with one's own ideological audience, but don't go over well with the mass public. You have to get through to people who have never heard of the Quality Learing Center, for example.
With some tweaking this is the kind of ad Republicans should run depicting the destruction wrought by Democrats. Stop short of making them victims.
Yancey,
"If Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom were buried under a truckload of tomatoes in an accident on the I-5, would anyone really find that to be a tragedy?"
I certainly would - - What a waste of perfectly good tomatoes!
They grow tons and tons of tomatoes in California. At harvest they ship lower grade sauce/ketchup tomatoes from the fields to the processing facilities in giant plastic or fiberglass tubs. The tubs are as large as the bed of a truck and needed to contain the leaking juice.
Bass and Newsom might 'take a bath' in tomatoes akin to kids playing in a McDonald's ball pit. It'd match the clown face makeup in this ad.
Attack of the killer tomatoes
Thats where the seed pods in body snatchers
I watched it and still have no idea what Spencer Pratt is. Do they sell tomatoes or something? Some cool effects, but as an ad it’s a fail.
The violence won’t end until Dem politicians are subject to it. That’s just the way it is. Regrettable.
I preferred the ad where he quotes video of a poverty pimp woman bragging about creating 64 beds for the homeless for $16 million dollars and rants about it. The real person saying ridiculous things was more convincing than the parody approach.
It's worse than what James Comey was indicted for. More like the severed head of Trump held up by Kathy Griffin.
Tomatoes
Severed Head
Seashells
one of these is not like the other
I like...
the burning Hollywood sign
the music
the evil Joker clown make-up
the DSA foot soldiers
the thrones
that damn laugh
Kamala drinking alcohol straight from the bottle
(this is all in the first six seconds)
the damn French wigs
"if you were a transgender migrant, I could get you a free pussy"
the little bit of cake on his lip
all the elites laughing and not giving a damn
"let's move the drug addicts closer"
(I think the puppet is the socialist in the race?)
Kamala drinking more alcohol
"Bass has already solved crime, I endorse her"
Joe Rogan as Commissioner Gordon
he's so sad
"save us, SP, you're our only hope" (implicit)
Wolverine, undercover as a lumberjack, begging for help
non-violent jujitsu moves against tyrannical cops
"this is a machine"
"if we want to burn this town to the ground"
tomato in the face!
screaming tyrant
little boy with fruit weapon
musical shift
shout out from Marco Rubio, very important
construction worker rebellion (aka hard hat riot)
French elite getting hit with a pie in the face
goes down from a pie barrage
cherry I think, maybe apple
multi-national civil unrest
lots of apples
veep gets an apple in the eye
and the elites go scampering into the night
alive
I see this ad as a funny attempt to express anger at out-of-touch leaders who have failed the city
quite a bit different from the assassination dreams of the left, with their severed heads and Luigi fantasies.
YMMV
it's all protected by First Amendment, of course
Thought the tomatoes were bad idea until it was revealed mostly minorities were projectiling. Hopefully repub wins gov in ca. But, like Trump, would need second term to weed out backstabbers and hopefully make changes for the better.
I think that this ad might also be a giant middle finger to this:
"On August 5, a Federal judge struck down a California deepfake law aimed at restricting AI-generated deepfake content during elections. California’s AB 2655, officially titled the Defending Democracy from Deepfake Deception Act of 2024, requires large online platforms to block the posting of materially deceptive content related to elections in California during specified periods, and requires platforms to label certain additional content inauthentic, fake, or false during those periods."
To-may-to, To-mah-to,
Po-tay-to, Po-tah-to,
Let's throw their asses out!
Sadly, even this won't save LA from itself. They'll probably elect the Harvard-educated nutjob who thinks it's too easy to cut catalytic converters off cars.
In my little tomato town in Florida, there was a century-old tradition of holding an annual tomato-throwing fight with the subar vegetables left on the vines. Also, earlier, among many festivals in Italy.
Why not? The entire point of festivals is to reverse roles. We need more of this.
NO> Throwing a tomato is not the same as a realistic bloody severed head by an unusually ugly and un-funny leftwing comedian. Who made money off of Trump.
I do agree the violent image is too pointed for national viewing. But I experienced being pelted with a rotting tomato as being pelted with a rotting tomato, and nothing more or less. Look at the long, long history of throwing vegetables at politicians.
Maybe too esoteric, or visceral, now. OK. I don't know who this guy is.
Peachy said...
This is absolutely not on the same level as a severed head.
Althouse is a Democrat Party member. Their violence is free speech, and our free speech is violence.
Fugly hack libtard comic holds up bloody severed head- HAHAHA I love you!!!!
Cartoon where normies throw tomatoes at despicable corrupt Democrat Party politicians- Oh the humanity!
