"The City Council in The Hague, the seat of the national government, passed the first law banning fossil fuel ads in 2024."

"The following year, a Dutch travel trade association and several travel agencies sued, arguing that the ban was an overreach that violated freedom of expression rules and European Union consumer law. But the judge sided with the city, ruling that the health of its citizens and the climate was more important than commercial interests. 'It is not up to the municipality to refrain from taking measures to promote the health of its residents in order to strengthen the future position of travel providers,' the judge wrote, according to Euronews.... Among the recent promotions that are no longer allowed in Amsterdam: Ads for Range Rovers. Marketing for flights to Zanzibar, Mauritius and Dubai, and getaways to Thailand, and even, gasp, New York City."

And, from 16 years ago: "If you really believed in global warming, you would turn off your air conditioning" — which had 6 more things you ought to do to avoid shame and hypocrisy (if you really believe). I ask you to review the list now and reflect upon how well you have done:
1. Your weight should be at the low end of normal, indicating that you are not overconsuming the products of agriculture.

2. You should not engage in vigorous physical exercise, as this will increase your caloric requirements. You may do simple weight-lifting or calisthenics to keep in shape. Check how many calories per hour are burned and choose a form of exercise that burns as few calories as possible.

3. Free time should be spent sitting or lying still without using electricity. Don't run the television or music playing device. Reading, done by sunlight is the best way to pass free time. After dark, why not have a pleasant conversation with friends or family? Word games or board games should replace sports or video games.

4. Get up at sunrise. Don't waste the natural light. Try never to turn on the electric lights in your house or workplace. Put compact fluorescent bulbs in all your light fixtures. The glow is so ugly that it will reduce the temptation to turn them on.

5. Restrict your use of transportation. Do not assume that walking or biking is less productive of carbon emissions than using a highly efficient small car. Do not go anywhere you don't have to go. When there is no food in the house to make dinner, instead of hopping in the car to go to the grocery store or a restaurant, take it as a cue to fast. As noted above, your weight should be at the low end of normal, and opportunities to reach or stay there should be greeted with a happy spirit.

6. If you have free time, such as a vacation from work, spend it in your home town. Read library books, redo old jigsaw puzzles, meditate, tell stories to your children — the list of activities is endless. Just thinking up more items to put on that list is an activity that could be on the list. Really embrace this new way of life. A deep satisfaction and mental peace can be achieved knowing that you are saving the earth.

Ha ha. "Get up at sunrise." I leaned into that one!

It is clear now to everyone that stopping Climate Change was never an honest endeavor.

It was always about control over people and moving all manufacturing to globalist owned enterprises in SE Asia.

Agree with the getting up in sunrise, but fluorescent bulbs didn't last long. Besides the ugly glow, they were toxic. I remember Ted Poe threatening to break one on the House floor because the proper procedure would be to evacuate for a hazmat cleanup. They weren't quite that dangerous, but Congress said they were.

As a mathematician, I knew that the climate models were bogus from Day #1. Think about (for a change). Why do we build mathematical models in the first damned place.

"Carbon emissions"

OMG - such unscientific language. So typical of the ignorant left cult.

it's NOT Carbon. It's C02

Canada, with MAID, has come up with the ultimate solution; just die. (But don’t get cremated)

We build mathematical models so that we can make predictions. How many of the climate alarmists’ predictions have come true? Precisely one — that we will have to spend more money for less comfort.

For me it became obvious once I learned that NOAA was no longer storing the raw weather data in favor of “adjusted” data sets. In real science you adjust your model to better fit the observed data — you do not adjust the observed data to fit your model.

Quayle said...

Our sampling of the data of our universe - what is normal and what isn’t - is a very small sliver of the entire lifecycle timeline. It is pure arrogance to extrapolate that small data set across thousands of years and make definitive pronouncements about what humans are causing or not causing. The entire paradigm is an exercise in corruption of science through selective and controlled funding, and just plain intellectual hubris.

Science is a philosophy and practice in the near-domain, thus weather forecasts with improved probability, not estimates in models, or inferences from signals of unknown origin and fidelity.

…steak tastes good. It’s good for you. My government says so. What’s that? You want to question what my government says is good for you or not? Now you know how I feel about yours…

Just going to finish his point because I love rubbing the climate cultists nose in their own shit.

People build mathematical models because they didn't get the results they wanted from observational data.

Mathematical Models allow you to build whatever reality you want. That is actually what AGI and LLMs are are giant vectors of weights that allow us to decide what the next token is.

The climate models are all just pure fraud. They are literally just entering in values for thermometers that moved or stopped working.

"The Science is settled" is the most unscientific statement uttered non-stop by frauds.

I blogged it 13 years ago: "If you really care about global warming, stop all unnecessary travel."

If you really cared about maximizing human flourishing, then you’d start building nuclear plants as fast as you could, to provide cheap and abundant energy for all eight billion of us.

Fertility Rate in the Netherlands at present: 1.43. No European country has a fertility rate above the replacement rate of 2.1 at present. The highest is 1.75, and only 7 of 36 are above 1.5.

Keep it up, leaders. Your replacement immigrant population is a bigger drain on societal resources than the law-abiding citizens you harass and penalize. Your nations are, across the board, getting poorer by the day.

Isnt it funny how climate change went from the most important thing in the world to Number 32 in the topics the MSM reports on?

RCOCEAN II said...

I'll give you another one. If you truly believed in Climate Change, you'd be against any immigration from Africa or the 3rd world to Europe and the USA, since every person who comes here increases their "Carbon footprint". As an American they start consuming massive amounts of fossil fuels, many more than they did in Columbia or the Congo or India.

Hmmm, haven't seen a gas station commercial in decades and only meat commercials seem to be mail order.

Global warming is dying. Sadly, The Netherlands is dying faster. Spent much time in Amersterdam over the past 40 years. No longer of interest. No longer recommend to my travel clients.

An enterprising Dutch ad agency should be able to creatively circumvent those bans.

The Eurotrash Rulers in Europe have been behind this garbage for over a century.

What Trump is doing in Iran is putting an end to Eurotrash pretense. Our University system is just an extension of Eurotrash sensibilities.

Even Amsterdam doesn't recommend going there.

Rotterdam has a major oil refinery are they going to tear that down

But surely an exception can be made to advertise Soylent Green.

NKP, would love to hear why you no longer recommend Amsterdam. It’s one of the few places in Europe I still want to see and would like to know if I should cross it off.

RCOCEAN II beat me to the immigration comment. If Biden and Starmer cared about the planet they would protect us from 3rd worlders from sh!t hole countries who want to come here and increase their carbon footprint.

Original Mike said...

"Rotterdam has a major oil refinery are they going to tear that down"

Australia has shut down almost all of their refineries over the last two decades. They only have two left. That hasn't worked out so well for them lately.

The problem with banning ads for gasoline is that people still NEED to buy gas. The only thing that might change regarding advertising is which station they buy it from.

All human activity is unnecessary.

Jim, when everything goes, it eventually does. If you’ve never been, go! Worth it for the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum. Take a canal tour. Maybe I’ve been there, done that, too many times.

Stay out of the naughty zone. More sin and skin in Vegas or SoCal beach towns :-)

Bunkypotatohead said...

All the more for me.

The only thing driving "climate change" is climate propaganda masquerading as truth.
Earth tilt and axis wobble plus the Sun and Solar flare activity are the drivers of weather > climate.
